My Star Wars (and few others) decal collection
kibosh replied to Cody Startale's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
@Cody Startale It's not clear on your website, but do you sell your decals? You do excellent work! -
Are those stormtroopers with the horribly exaggerated mouths from TCW or Rebels?
-
This is why I've stayed away. I know the source material is animated, but if the minifigures looked like the traditional Star Wars minifigures, I'd be more inclined to buy some. As it stands, the Rebels minifigs just don't look right mixed in with Star Wars creations.

Agreed. Not getting Zuckuss is extremely disappointing.
-
I think the less busy look is more true to the screen used models. There's not a whole lot of detail there. https://flic.kr/p/StAHS9 And the back bent knee makes me cringe as well.

I've never shown my ID when making a return. And how much does a minifigure weigh? I highly doubt the scales are calibrated that precisely. When I buy CMFs at the self scan line, I always need help. They don't weigh enough to even register on the scale.

Getting ready to sell my 10178 motorized AT-AT to finance this build.

It's not they don't care, or are uneducated, but what can they do? Should they open every single item that is returned and verify contents against some sort of manifest? So now all legitimate returns now become opened goods that can no longer be sold as new? Who is going to absorb that loss? And specifically with LEGO, thieves make the boxes look pristine. Will LEGO provide itemized images of what should be in every box to be consulted on all returns? How would they know if minifigures are missing without researching it?

Totally disagree. The brick built canopies are terrible unless you're building a technic model. They just look unfinished. I would much rather work with a polished looking canopy and go from there, inheriting whatever limitations they may impose.
-
Yep. Looks like it's sold out now. It will be back. As soon as new sets are released, I add them to my wishlist. I'm in front of a computer all day, so I check my wishlist daily to see if things have been discounted. If they go below 20% off, I snag them.

+1 It sits two figures across just like in the movies. This cockpit solution is way better than the official 10179 model.

Totally agree. Insane accuracy is one thing, but I prefer a model people can actually touch, and handle. Some models look like they would fall apart if you looked at them too long.
-
I seriously plan to buy one everyone time they go on sale. If I can find them at $10 or less, I'll buy even more. I should have plenty of Death Troopers to sell off!
-
Personally, just the good old fashioned stormtrooper. I did not stock up on troopers in the first battle pack. I do not plan on making the same mistake this time around.
-
Wow. This is beautiful. Love the belly of this beast. So smooth. It looks like a traditional model kit, and that's a good thing!
-
But he IS selling instructions for his Millenium Falcon. What exactly do you think I was talking about?

Ok. Let's take your premise one step further then. Where do you "draw the line"? If you post a model that gets rave reviews from the LEGO community, and I successfully reverse engineer it, can I sell copies of the instructions I made without your consent? Should you share in the profits if I copied your design 100% as long as I clearly state it is based off your efforts? What if I changed 1 brick of 1000? What if I changed 10 bricks out of a thousand? Where do you want me to "draw the line"? This is a slippery slope in my opinion. Based on this thread, it sounds like the general population has no problem with someone reverse engineering a model and selling their own instructions of said model.

I have a copy of an old train set; 4561. I built it once, but never ran it. It is the only 9V train in my collection. I'd love to trade my 9V stuff for some power function stuff as that is all I run. I have the motor, thee tracks, power supply, etc.

Wow. Not sure how I missed this. Three store exclusives? Two of which I want very badly? That stinks. When are these expected to hit?
-
Most of the new Star Wars sets are 20% on Amazon right now. I got the new battle packs for $12 each. And the Y-Wing for well under $50!

Believe me, I will be the first to admit this is a beautiful MOC, and reverse engineering it is an amazing feat. And I totally understand that digitally documenting it would be an enormous task, but unless Marshall is included in some way, financially benefiting from his original work seems wrong. Maybe he is benefiting. Who knows. That's why I asked. And no, it's not any of my business. I just hope Marshall is ok with this.

I have to ask, but did you get Marshall's consent to use his name like this? Something about this doesn't site quite right, and this question comes up all the time. You admittedly reverse engineered another's MOC, and now you are trying to profit from their original work. Are you giving him a cut of the action?

Agreed. And it looks like you are using a single light. Try to use two, and don't shine them directly without a diffuser. Bounce the light off something else. It will help reduce the glare and harsh shadows. You are on the right track!

The second link worked for me. They're all standing, packed side by side, top and bottom level.
