  1. My first thought was "this is exactly how modern technic supercar should look". Shapes are almost exclusively made with panels and flexible axles, it's very hard to achieve this with given level of authenticity. Yes, these cars will be smooth and that's fine, it is the technic aesthetic now.
  2. We can look at it from a different perspective. Do you really want most of your LEGO pieces to be black? Having generic pieces in more colors is awesome, isn't it?
  3. I've seen people using stacks of #3 connectors, not too bad. This plate also has similar shape: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=15068#T=P
  4. Technically, we had teaser video where W16 engine and new 20z gear were visible, so who knows...
  5. Technic hubs always use AA, train battery boxes are usually considered System and never appear in Technic sets
  6. 42106 also has a few Medium Azure pieces. And I think Tumbler tires are the best :) Anyway - I agree with you, the model is kinda ugly, but still looks better in real life then on pictures. I personally ordered two copies back then because price was good and those tires are really rare!
  7. That beam looks like dark tan to me but I'm sure it's 100% wrong, too hard to tell with this lighting.
  8. Original rumors said "wingdoors and red" for 42115, right? Basically we know nothing about the color at this point, "green" shade was just an assumption.
  9. @MikeTwo9398 you were 1 minute ahead of me Yes, I'm sure this is exactly what's happening.
  10. You know, I don't expect it to be fast. For me the joy of creating a complex gearbox is more valuable, I'm not going to play with the model anyway I have tested it but results are irrelevant until I know the real weight of the car, I am not experienced enough to predict it.
  11. This allows me know what mounting points a will need in the future and where exactly to put seats, for example. Plus I know the exact dimensions that I have to fit all motors and gears in. And overall it really helps when I see how it's going to look. Gives me a good perspective. Considering mirrors and paired U-joints, I'll do something with it. There's a lot of work to be done.
  12. Hi everyone, this time I want to show you another work-in-progress MOC, but this one is more recent. The reason why I want to do this is quite obvious - LEGO releases their Lambo this year, and I am also aware of at least one Aventador MOC coming soon. We should have even more Lamborghinis, they are awesome and I can't wait to see these models. My version is a dark blue + white model in 1:8 scale with some basic functions: Steering with working steering wheel. Openable scissors doors. 7+R gearbox. Remote control using a single Control+ hub: 2 coupled XL motors for drive; L motor for steering; L motor to change speeds. This time I decided to build everything independantly and simultaniously. It actually helped me to become much more productive. I'll start with the bodywork. It's not completed and is built around a very crude carcass. I'm trying to concentrate on the shape only. There will be enough space on the inside, I'm taking this into account while building. As you see, it's about 60% completed. Front section is not done yet, but the back looks almost completed and I really like how it turned out. Reminds me a "snowboard glasses" a little (don't know how to call them but I'm sure you get what I mean): Of course, these gaps will have black background in the future and I will add some filler to them as well. Rear wing also looks completed, it might be my favorite part of the build, here you can see it from another side: Now I want to show a door closely. I tried to replicate scissors mechanism as closely as I could. First version used shock absorber and was way too big. The proble is that it has to be very close to the front wheel, it's pretty hard to do. Second version required 3 small rubber bands to hold door's weight. On the following photos you will see a third version. This is how it looks being closed: This is the first step of opening when you open it just like a regular car's door: And this is how it looks when you open it in a different plane. It holds itself locked with two rubber bands that you can see at the bottom: Here's a shot from the front with both doors opened. You can see that the door on the right has "old" design, I improved on it already: Next two pictures are showing caliper on the front wheel. I wanted it to be angled just like on the real car so I had to be creative: Yes, this is a sausage piece. Calipers on the rear will also be angled, but with more conventional build. I don't have it right now so the picture will be in one of the following updates. Now car's internals. Here you can see a gearbox and rear wheels. 3 motors are clearly visible. 4th motor will be in front of the hub. The idea is that L motor will change speeds by rotating by 180 degrees, this can be done programmatically rather then mechanically. But it doesn't mean that the build is simple, because it's not. I used only one of those new orange "wave selector" gears, everything else is basically a huge improvement over the gearbox from my LaFerrari MOC, but it's 1.5 times bigger because of that "reverse" speed I added. It's actually pretty fun that I managed to use a 40 tooth gear in this model. I guess I could use 36 + 2x28, but I don't have 28 tooth gears yet: Here's a view of the bottom. A huge con of the model can be seen here - it has no central diff, but still I expect all 4 wheels to be driven. On the other hand, I left a lot of holes so I can see gears turning: This construction is not rigid enough in several points, I think I will have to completely rebuild it and ensure that it is strong enough. It's already pretty smooth and if motors won't be able to handle the weight then I can play with the gear ratios from motors - there are dedicated places in the gearbox for this exact purpose. I hope that it will become a good model and you'll like it. Thank you!
  13. It's been a long time since the update. I barely touched the model, but there are changes. For a long time the model looked like this: It's unwrapped now so I can show what was done during this time. Images are oversaturated for some reason, sorry for that. Bodywork is finished for the most part: Bonnet has been reworked, 3x5 panels on the sides are swapped now so that it has arc now. You can see that I forgot to replace black panel with the red one in the bottom. Back side looks like this. I stored the model without tail lights because I had put trans-red dishes back to System Ferrari F40, they'll be back soon. I also tried to create some kind of fake engine, it looks fine I think. Doors have been reworked slightly. They have better shape and less gaps now: I really want to finish it already, it won't be the most polished model for this reason. The thing is that I burned out a little and have other things to show that are more fresh. This model was incompleted for way too long.
  14. As far as I understand you can somehow use these pieces instead of 12z gears. The goal is to limit the differential to have one-way rotation only, right?
  15. Well, yellow ring extender is a cool piece after all because it's impossible to use old version with new gears. And something tells me that connection through this ring results in less (!) backlash (if we denote angle size of the "border thing" in the ring as A then regular gears have backlash "90 - A" degrees while new ring has "2*(45 - A) = 90 - 2A" degrees, at least this is what I think is happening). Maybe TLG just wanted to introduce that piece so they designed the gearbox accordingly. I wouldn't mind if they also used 4 new blue gears in "secondary" gearbox that effectively has only 2 states. This way we would have 8 instead of 4, such a missed opportunity.
  16. I never had technic sets when I was a kid. My serious dedication to it started in 2013 but I have (or build from my pieces) several sets from 2010 or even earlier. So my thought are: - Sets are continuously getting bigger. This is both good and bad thing. Bad because I have to spend more money. - From construction point of view new sets are superior. I've seen some very questionable building techniques in old sets like motors not being protected with 24z clutch gear, stressed parts or even what they call "illegal connections". New sets just feel more solid to me. - New pieces / colors - this is awesome. I wish I had, for example, some yellow panels that you can't find in modern sets but there's always some secondary market where I can buy them. About B models - it's pretty easy to make something relatively good from a pile of 200 pieces. It's hard to do it with 600 and nearly impossible with 3000 (using most of parts). So it's ok to expect B models of huge sets not to be as remarkable as sets themselves.
  17. "Marriage" process was a little bit frustrating, Otherwise my experience was absolutely incredible. Numbered bags help a lot, finished it in two relatively short build sessions.
  18. Yes he did, those subassemblies have to be connected with 3x5 panels from the inside.
  19. Some experiments with tail lights. It's trans-red 2x2 dish with wheelchair wheel behind it and 1x1 trans-clear round tile on top. Creates quite interesting visual texture.
  20. This is so cool! "Before-color-coding" era must have been a lot of fun. I have just a few pieces from those times, mainly 3L axles in black.
  21. No and it isn't known whether we'll get an update or not (LDD is officially cancelled).
  22. Designers probably knew that they screwed up front suspension but didn't have time to fix it properly. Something tells me that model design was pretty much freezed in the middle of last year. It's a delicate question and I kinda get why Sariel or other guys didn't ask why it happened. I mean, they know that it's a problem, we know that it's a problem, it's all obvious now.
  23. I don't have it and I probably won't buy it. But at least I have 2x2 round dishes in trans-red, exactly 2 of them. Will try to make them look good.
  24. Yeah, there has to be something instead of emptyness! I tried regular panels (3x5, 3x7) and they look ugly. I don't have appealing solution on this moment but I'm always searching. It's funny that no one mentioned huge gaps in front section.
  25. They really do actually. Car on your photo is regular LaFerrari, Aperta has no roof so doors geometry is different. But I can live with this, next time I'll be more careful.
