  1. Impression of what it will look like when finished: I am currently rebuilding the entire car from scratch and improving on the design where I can. I will document that process and update in this topic.
  2. Hi all, I present you my finished MOC of a 7-seater familycar with full functions: DETAILED PDF INSTRUCTIONS NOW AVAILABLE HERE, REBRICKABLE ENTRY HERE Separate PDF instructions for the roof implement available HERE, Rebrickable entry HERE I got the idea for building a family car about 3 years ago, when looking for a bigger car IRL for my own family. I was intrigued by the fancy seat folding mechanisms seen on these type of cars and wanted to reproduce that. For the model, I took inspiration from the Ford S-Max, which in my opinion combines good looks with all familycar requirements. It also comes in some fast versions, so it is fun to drive as well (unfortunately, IRL this car is well above my budget... Ah well...): It was clear to me early on that I would not be able to reproduce the exact looks (I'm not that good a scale model builder), but I wanted to stay as close to a real life car as I could in terms of mechanical features and looks on both interior and exterior. Meanwhile I wanted it to be structurally sound as well, based on modern "box structure" car frames. I built numerous iterations, starting in 1:8 scale, and later switching to 1:10 scale after having to much trouble with the larger scale when it comes to chassis stiffness. I have worked on this on and off for over 2 years, finally resulting in this build. The model has: 5+ R gearbox with linkage control: full suspension (independent McPherson with drive in front, dead trailing arm axle in the rear): 4-in-line transversally mounted fake engine in the front: rigid box structure chassis full interior with adjustable/folding seats on all rows: Folding the seats movie opening doors (with lock), boot and hood: parking brake (transmission lock) I wanted the maximum available interior space for this car (that's what a family car is all about after all...), so I set myself some goals: no supports from bottom to roof inside interior space: center console should be no wider than 5 studs: front wheel drive with front engine and gearbox: I wanted to create a rigid chassis, which would not bend and is self supporting. Because I wanted as much interior space as possible, the bottom structure is only 2-3 studs high. I couldn't fit vertical frames in there (as they are 5studs high), so in the end the roof became an active part of the structure of the chassis. It is very strong and stiff, when one wheel is lifted, there is hardly any bending in the chassis, instead the opposite wheel suspension is compressed: The whole car can be lifted safely with only one finger, from the midsection on the roof and by the B-pillars and C-pillars: Here are some more pics: For a full gallery and all WIP photo's, check my bricksafe folder. ============================ Below and further in this topic is all the WIP progress of making this car from July 1st onwards: Pic of current chassis WIP with parking break (back yellow knob), gearstick (in front of parking brake) and linkage (beneath and in front of gearstick), and start of gearbox mounting and front suspension (McPherson with drive from Sheepo's MPS)
  3. Now that would be a nice Technic mini set... 42071 anyone?
  4. A thought just popped up: 42070 has stickers that say tow 067. TLG stated they are not done with 40y anniversary. Could it be that they will make a competition for the fans to create the vehicle that should be towed? And maybe release that as a set later on? I know @Jim already mentioned there is no set pending from TLG, but if it were to be a competition, TLG is not creating the set, so technically it still holds true...
  5. Thanx! I've checked the descriptions for all 2h models, but no new info apart from 1 statement on the firetruck: it says that when you add PF you get working beacon lights... sounds impossible to me since the PF lights have no blinking feature on their own, and I doubt the model will include some mechanical feature to achieve this. As stated before, I guess the text in dutch is a somewhat sloppy translation from original LEGO descriptions.
  6. If you mean flowers it's actually "bloemen". But it's pronounced as "blumen", which is in fact german spelling... Well nevermind, I'm going way offtopic here... @nguyengiangoc where did you get those pics btw? Firetruck pic seems to be taken in designer vid studio, so vid is probably also done... The 5x11 grey panels in 42069 B-model are probably the LBG ones from the tooldrawer in the lower back of the A-model (below roof mechanism).
  7. B-model is called research vehicle...? So we have research boat 42064, 42069 A and B model in research/expedition theme and now also 42070 B-model... "Research" is the new "construction"...
  8. "This very detailled 2in1 lego technic model has a gorgeous blue red yellow and black colorscheme and all sorts of realistic functions like enormous tires, heavyduty front fender with chain and hook (winch), moveable lights and a detailled cabin with openable doors" It actually says moveable lights, but i think it is bad translation from original text into dutch in the first place. I guess it should have been flashlights or turning signals or something like that...
  9. Very nice build, looks great. Love the use of the old rubber hovercraft parts as front bumper, very clever and functional also
  10. Very nice! Really like the use of the orange parts for the bucket. And smart use of the little pump, would have never thought of operating it manually myself
  11. Well, lego did have a towtruck in their 1967 line-up, setnr332... Could it be a simple reference to a 50year old set?
  12. Very cool vid? Have 2 buggy motors myself laying around somewhere, think I have to give this one a go...
  13. My pleasure! LDcad and LPub3D are a powerfull and easy combination, to my own surprise I finished it in one evening.
  14. Thanx! True about return to center, but I used friction pin on the center console, so that would have to be modified as well. Will make whole gearstick assembly 1 stud longer, and that didn't fit in my MOC... Thanx for appreciation. Actually your whole ATS MOC inspired me, but I went a step further away from regular supercar... My MOC is a 7seater familycar (european style 'MPV') with fully functional interior with folding seats and all. Stay tuned for that one...
  15. Hi everyone, I have already posted this gearbox in the Gearbox collection thread started by Didumos69, but now that I have finished the instructions (as promised@mocbuild101, here you are :-)) I thought it would be a good occasion to start a specific thread on this gearbox. I am currently working on a MOC which has this gearbox implemented (will start a topic for that one in the near future as well), for which I had some specific requirements: I wanted manual operation on standard LEGO 5+R configuration, but with a gearstick that would pivot in all directions from a single point (like in real car). Apart from that, I wanted a center console that was not more than 5 studs wide, so the gearbox had to be moved away from the gearstick. I took my inspiration by Thirdwigg's 6speed gearbox from his Cadillac ATS supersedan, Crowkillers 4speed gearbox from his Asassin X19 and the 5+R gearbox from Nathanaël Kuipers' Predator. I ended up mixing them all with some inspiration from the 42054 Claas steering mode selector as well. Note: the version in the instructions is using the new DGB driving rings and red clutch gears, they actually give a more solid build (when I shot below pic and vids I had already used mine in aforementioned MOC, so I converted it to the old rings and wheels. Works fine as well, just a bit less solid). Manually operated Direct operation special features: single pivot point for gearstick, linkage to gearbox, fits in 3studs wide center console number of gears: 5 forward, neutral and reverse Here's some vids (apologies for noob quality...) and the instructions: Gearbox in action Shifter linkage system in action Instructions PDF Enjoy and let me know what you think of it.
  16. @mocbuild101 yes coming up, will raise a new thread once done

  18. I have 2, from 8421 and motor pack. Hardly ever use them, should do more with them actually. Bought some pf extension wires to connect them to pf system, but turned my attention to manual operated mocs for now. Maybe in next moc...
  19. Brilliant model! I have visited Tatra museum back in 2003 and was amazed by technical ingenuity they put in their cars back in the early days of the brand. You captured it very well
  20. Nice C model, great use of parts and colors. Looks on par with official models, could have easily been the B model
  21. I think I'd go for 8880. Bought it as a kid from my own well-earned money. Spent evenings building it and was totally impressed by all the reallife functions. It got me hooked on technic for life.
