  1. ... just... what?... wow... I love the use of that system pillar thing as the reinforcement on the engine bay. And then some other 500 details...
  2. So I am bumping a 3year old thread, but with reason. I have finally tested the steel cable solution shown by @JDL1967, after being reminded of this action because of a question posted by @Josephiah. I have hooked up one side of my Barcode Scanner Truck's arm with two steel cables instead of the flex plastic ones (1x 12L, 1x 20L). The 12L is fixed and just there to keep together the arm (which is built from connectors and axles). Because the steel cable is much smaller in diameter compared to the original LEGO cable, there is much more slack and I don't think it will completely keep the arm attached if put under weird stress. But it could be fixed by slightly shortening the cable length perhaps (putting it under tension by maybe making it 11,5L). The 20L has a crucial role in the grabber ánd arms movement. I shot a video of how that works (my original motor died, so I use the good old hand motor...): Conclusion: works fine for light to medium force applications, as long as the steel cable is only slightly exposed outside of the outer pipe. With larger force or large amounts of movement (= great length of cable exposed out of pipe) this system is too weak. This was tested with a very thin cable, maybe if there are thicker cables it could work better. I shared this worry, so I slid a sleeve into the outer pipe on both ends, making sure it stayed put by slightly deforming it into an oval. It sits snug inside the outer pipe, and it can still be removed later on to keep your parts original. Or if you do not want to keep your pipes compatible to the original flex cables, you can glue them into the outer pipe as well: @ChrisVandeVoorde, sorry to dissapoint, but I do not know the address where JDL1967 got the cables etc. He mentioned that any professional fishing equipment store should have this stuff.
  3. Hi @Josephiah, check out this topic. It seems that I have an open action point on me still, will have a look at it shortly and post some feedback.
  4. I think the shape (height) of the cab is mostly defined by what appears to be the smart hub inside. So a delibarate design choice in favor of playability IMHO.
  5. On second look, the round hole might be an axle hole, so maybe you can put an axle in there to 'remotely' control the port switches (similar to the PF pole reverser or the latest Pneumatics switch). Then either side would have such a hole next to the port. Or it could even be your desired speed regulator (1 per port). But you are right, let's patiently wait before jumping to conclusions until we get some real footage of this stuff.
  6. Right here an infographic is shown that shows the 'simple' hub (battery box) as the exact same unit as the C+ smarthub, but with only 2 ports and 2 switches on top (probably on/off or forward/off/backward per port). It looks legit, although I can't verify if it is a genuine LEGO picture. So you were right about the shape, but unfortunately it looks like only 2 ports. On the position of the 3rd or 4th port I can see a round hole that looks like a plug for a charger cable?! Would it be LiPo or something rechargable? Can't imagine that actually...
  7. Looks like it indeed. The backside of the cabin is 'filled' with a hub standing upright (the white side with the blinking led-light faces forwards), you can see the two LBG connectorblocks with 3 holes on the side of the cab. And it is a cable for sure running in the background.
  8. I'm a bit surprised that this final model is approved with all those disproportions compared to the reallife. Seems Volvo cares more about technical side than exact looks, which IMHO is a good thing next to UCS line.
  9. Smart use of the fact that the extension rod can turn around in the housing
  10. Huhmm... black print along the edge of the yellow fender piece... Also 3x13 curved panel in yellow, is a new color for that piece. It has Unimog tyres, not Claas tyres. XL LA are at a v-shape, interesting for sure! EDIT: yay, mini panels in yellow!!!
  11. You can also look at Technic as a generic building format / part stack: You can create awesome technical/mechanical structures with it (like BWE), add design and looks to the technical stuff (like Arocs), or focus more on looks and less on technical stuff (like UCS), all with the same set of parts. So there is something of everything in the line-up. In the end, it is customers opinion/taste/preference that will decide whether or not they will like/buy a specific set. Nothing wrong there. As I grow older, I start leaning more and more towards the 'pretty' side of Technic. Yes, I do like raw hardcore mechanics, but it has to look good as well. In my MOCs, I'd rather skip 1 or 2 functions for the sake of looks nowadays. So, what is 'Technic'? I think it is a feeling that is different for everyone. And I congratulate TLG on that, because they have made the theme more than just that 'pile of parts'. NB: this is not a rage against @TeamThrifty, I am just expressing my personal opinion in response to another post.
  12. Yes, it does make sense, but I do not like it... I think the size of those units is way too big (at least as a 'dumb' BB), it almost eliminates the possibility to properly motorize a small to medium sized model with C+ (42109 is not considered a proper model in my book). For me personally this is a reason to quickly invest in some more PF stuff (some more servo/wires/lights and stuff, and SBrick of BuWizz for BT remote and power) to top of my collection of PF motors. Until TLG goes significantly smaller with the PU/C+, I will stick with PF.
  13. Crap, that would mean it is just as big as the C+ smarthub, which is 1 of the larger units in the smarthub family... Would have loved to see a C+ BB the size of the train hub, similar to the PF rechargable LiPo unit.
  14. Let's hope not, that would be a BIG letdown for me (why should I pay for a 4channel BT remote device when I only use 1 output through manual manipulation?) At least 42109 makes use of the BT remote part, albeit in a bulky form (2channel would be enough but ok)
  15. According to some eye-witnesses, the new Osprey plane has 1 C+ motor and 4-function distribution-gearbox. So 2020-2H might already answer your question and take away your concern.
  16. Locking diff is also discussed as part of the Volvo drivetrain. But in that set it was (99,9% certain) confirmed that the existing 4L(red) diff is used as center diff, and the new TGcar diff on the axles (so 3 in total). I would not expect new diff elements. Might still be a LEGO first to have it locking though, both diff cases have the option to pair with a driving ring.
  17. thanx @kbalage! This would make the C+ components and build style (and hopefully also set prices) a bit closer to PF, while still have the option of connecting to BT controller with the smarthub (IR was the major gripe with PF). Let's hope it will be released this year already, would be a good boost for PU/C+ compared to current PF popularity I think.
  18. Was about to post the same, you beat me to it... But yes, a 'dumb' battery box would make sense here, and is a logical expansion of the C+/PU line-up in Technic. Has there been any hint of such a battery box for PU in any of the other themes?
  19. Well, if you have auto-translate active to your native language, it will not show that obviously. Let's just help the guy and point him to the FAQ and guidelines section of EB, where all is explained... @Cri Hi, welcome to Eurobricks! Please mind that this is an international forum, where all public communication is done in English only (just running your text through Google Translate will be good enough if you are not an English speaker). Please check the forums FAQ and guidelines to get a feel of how things go around here and enjoy your stay!
  20. Oh man, if I would get a cent for every time this question crossed my mind, I would be rich by now... Great work putting this list together! Are you also planning on keeping this updated when new panels/colors are released? Or was it a one-time effort (I'm fine either way, just asking)? I think I will include this in the Technic Index under notable topics, this will be helpful to a lot of people.
