  1. Something like Blockland or Minecraft I guess. Maybe in a decade when computers are fast enough.
  2. Very nice! Thanks for the suggestion!
  3. Here is the street lamp I had intended on using, though I see now that I will probably have to switch to something different. http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/2039 I can't attach ldraw models to my post for some reason. So I uploaded the curving road model here: http://www.mediafire...unec00abww40144
  4. I'm planning on placing them all along each sidewalk. The model doesn't use any 2x2 bricks. Could you post pics of the ones you mean?
  5. Can anyone suggest a good way to connect a streetlamp to the following SNOT road model? Thanks!! Mike [edit] Oops, typo in thread title!
  6. A "walk" or "drive" mode so you can explore town models the way they are best experienced.
  7. I was thinking now that we have a LDD to POVray converter this idea might be more feasible for LDD users. (POVray can easily generate isometric or overhead images.) I've done similar renderings here.
  8. Go here: http://gallaghersart.com/images/made/item/1000/700_560_78/ The image is called "GallaghersArt_ramp_04_a_sm.jpg" and is the second one from the bottom.
  9. I did create a script to generate these types of roads in POV-Ray. http://lib.povray.or...butorTag=SharkD However, I don't know how to automatically generate the center dashed lines. And it's not at all a "legal" build as it does not use any official sub-parts but instead creates each triangle to form a mesh.
  10. Yes, that's the visual style I'm going for. However, the example you posted doesn't turn as it rises. (And I'm not necessarily just talking about embankment.)
  11. Wow, that is really cool!! Could you post the LDD file?
  12. I can't really visualize what you are describing. Do you have a photo I could look at?
  13. Does anyone have examples of SNOT roads that are both inclined vertically and curving horizontally? I can't for the life of me figure out how to create such a model. Thanks! Mike
  14. You can see for yourself. The author has his own YouTube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/rolandMelkert?feature=watch
  15. The program is fully 3D. You can switch to a sideways view, but it's possible to edit in full 3D with a rotatable camera.
  16. LDCad works in Linux too. http://www.melkert.net/LDCad
  17. Has anyone tried this game? It seems to support LDraw models. https://sourceforge....jects/brikwars/ I love games like X-COM, so this at first glance would seem like my dream game. I don't know how the controls are, or if there are things like destructible terrain or line-of-sight obstructions. The screenshots look a little crowded with minifigs so close to each other, and the quality of the graphics is very poor. Mike
  18. Could a mod please change the title of the following thread to "Datsville community LDraw project"? http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=60031 Thank you!!
  19. Update: I'm experimenting with heightfield terrain generated in World Machine. You can see the latest screenshots here: https://code.google....iki/Screenshots It's not as nice as some of the terrain I generated a few years ago. But unfortunately I lost the files somehow, and they're not in my backups. [edit] Here's a short video by Roland Melkert showing what Datsville looks like in his LDraw editor, LDCad.
  20. Any and all help expanding the town would be appreciated. We're mainly looking for a contemporary theme (though there is a small renaissance fair occurring across the river, and Tore Eriksson has plans to create a sci-fi themed multimedia "story" set in Datsville). Some structures I am considering right now include a factory, coal power plant or a rail yard. And, some things that are urgently needed are bigger and better trees. However there is plenty of space for just about anything! Unfortunately, the RPG stuff I was playing around with probably won't be developed further. My software trial period for RPG Maker is about to expire and I have no plans on purchasing a copy at this point. It's just something I wanted to try to see if it could work. Lastly, I am experimenting with SNOT roads. Here's what it all looks like right now: Mike
  21. Since I mainly use CAD these days I use 1 LDraw unit = 1 inch. Thus a 1x1 brick is one foot high and 10 inches wide.
  22. If it hasn't been mentioned already, here's a post at LUGNET where someone listed the official sets they'd made. http://news.lugnet.com/cad/dat/models/sets/?n=385
  23. I started an RPG Maker project based on Datsville. Right now all you can do is walk around the town and look at the buildings. There are no dialogue, quests or other interaction as of yet unfortunately. Here's a screenshot: You can download the project from the Google Code branch: http://code.google.com/p/datsville/
  24. Some recent additions in Revision 5 plus the latest screenshots in LDView:
  25. Here are some of the buildings I personally created for the town:
