LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 20. Rumors and discussion

Not a contradiction, just simply acknowledging that the likes of Robert (exactly who I was thinking of) can come come up with creative ideas that LEGO either can’t or (more likely) don’t seem willing to for whatever reason. I think that’s exactly the problem - combination of budget restrictions on new molds and recolours, and kids in market research focus groups. -

Yeah, feared as much - don't quite understand that mentality for an non-licensed theme. I'll remain hopeful of leaks then. -
LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Excitement at seeing an official Crest, but it's tempered by the slightly off design (engine arrays most noticeably), the standard Mando (no beskar, boooo....) and 7 month wait ? -

Are we expecting any images of the next wave (Sub, Prison, and especially Castle) in the next days from NYTF? Wasn't the launch held at the event last year? -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 20. Rumors and discussion
Lucarex replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Aside from the Mr Gold debacle 7 years ago, they already had the limited minifig commemorative thing with the original 1978 policeman back in series 18, so I'm relieved they're never going down that chase route again. But still, a green brick suit guy - essentially a recolour with basic print - is lacking a bit in imagination IMO. At least the "mystery" concept (highwayman minifig from series 17) might have whipped up some interest. 20th anniversary is symbolised by "china" (as in porcelain not the country LEGO marketing seems obsessed with these days) or alternatively platinum - so personally I'd have liked to see a basic or even blank metallic silver chrome minfig and for the bags to be silver in colour too. Glad I'm not the only one. Between me and the kids, there's been a noticeable drop off in buying the last few years. Whereas certain series were all must haves (the Monster series from 2015 springs to mind) we've dropped down to maybe 12 of 16, then 10, 6, and more recently 3 or 4 of the best. And that's on top of swerving some licensed series completely like Harry Potter, Disney 2.0 etc. Which is shame but goes to show it's hard to keep the ideas fresh (despite some interesting custom ideas from EB'ers here) and it may be time for the theme to end before too long. When even licensed series are an easy pass (the current DC series being the worst) its possible LEGO may want to rethink. Prices are creeping up (no longer impulse purchases) as interest is dwindling, and that's really not a commercially sustainable scenario. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 20. Rumors and discussion

Yeah I too miss the upended CMF boxes strewn all over TRU shelves whilst adult scalpers rummaged mercilessly feeling for Mr Gold’s top hat and staff. Random chance of finding that chase fig was negligible to nil. Good times. -
That’s because the theme of LEGO Architecture is no more and has been quietly replaced by LEGO Tourist Attractions.

Just read that Monkey, the ‘80s cult tv series adaptation of Journey to the West, was actually a Japanese TV production of the Chinese story. So maybe we should leave Asian cultural definitions and arguments well alone and just wait to see what this Lego theme brings. -

There’s actually episodes 12 (El Fuego’s Stunt Plane) and 13 (Doom Buggy) on YT, but you’ll have to use a VPN set to outside of Europe to view. -

I made the “mistake” of letting mine know about the castle coming in the summer. Cue the very first time he’s agreed to start saving his pocket money -

Generally I have no interest in lots of other hugely popular themes like Harry Potter, recent Ninjago etc. Which is why I don’t read, never mind actually post in those areas and if I did, it wouldn’t be to say “what’s the point of this theme?” Seriously, why bother? It’s basically thread-crapping. Me and mine too! -
Not quite. Mystery machine was the big seller, then mummy museum (cheap impulse buy) and then the lighthouse. The mansion was a shelf-warmer given it’s high price and poor execution, and ended up deeply discounted.

Reading that brickset article, it seems these are empty boxes shown in Copenhagen as a concept to test the market interest.

@Falconfan1414 are you able to say when details (if not images) will be made available? Nothing before NYTF in a couple of weeks? -

I'm not surprised he's gone his own way (the Atom Brick) and partnered with the FLW foundation. Those sets look nice but I'd have preferred to see them in Lego brick form. The Architecture theme used to make gems such as Falling Water and Robie House. Then came were then sets some like Trevi Fountain and Guggenheim (latest) to balance architectural merit with commercial interest. Recently, other than Trafalgar Square, churning out dull uninspired stuff like a large scale Empire State Building and yet another White House, is a big let down. I don't mind the skyline series as a successful way to keep revenues up and maybe subsidise larger more interesting sets, but even those are creeping up in price, the Tokyo/Dubai sets now at 60 notes. There's been a bit of soul selling of the theme IMO.

Better comparison is the yellow typographic outline on the box’s LEGO logo. That too “looks” slightly cool yellow but we know it’s not.

That logo is taken from the artwork in the recent IP filing by Lego so I’d say that’s final. -
It’s a tough call but to my eyes/screen, the rear box pic suggests it’s normal yellow unfortunately.

Really was a let down as I was expecting the same subway worker as the Czech magazine got. But they seem to alternate between ghost fighters and possessed characters with each issue and there’s almost zero variation from the standard minfigs. -

Now out a day earlier than expected. Had a quick glance on my way back into work, lot of haunted biker gang story and lighthouse art but the biggest disappointment of all is that next month, it's yet another standard wave 1 minifig, JB
