Thank you! There are two XL motors in the tender. Why thank you! I tried to create the most accurate model I possibly could. Should have a video soon, just need to find a large enough space to set up some track. Thanks! I'm very pleased with how the roof and tender turned out. Thanks for the comments guys! -Jeffinslaw

The 4-10-2 wheel arrangement, often referred to as the Southern Pacific for the railroad which put it to use most successfully, was a unique design that utilized three-cylinders instead of the traditional two. In terms of steam locomotive evolution, it followed the 2-10-2 Santa Fe but the American Locomotive Company's (Alco) desire to advance three-cylinder technology proved somewhat problematic, at least for the Union Pacific (which referred to its roster as "Overlands" for its Overland Route main line). The SP on the other hand found their fleet quite useful and reliable in regular service and continued to use them for nearly 30 years until diesels finally took over. Hey guys! I wanted to share my completed model of Southern Pacific's 4-10-2 steam engine. I designed this model myself taking inspiration from brass models of the engine and techniques from various builders here on EB and Flickr. This model took me several months to design, build, and test but it is finally completed! The best part? You can purchase your own set of instructions to build the same model! Yes, that's right. Have all of those amazing BMR rolling stock and maybe one or two of my SP & UP PFE cars but no engine to pull it? Well now you can build an expertly modeled steam engine that will fit in with your rolling stock perfectly. Instructions can be purchased here: https://www.bricktraindepot.com/product-page/southern-pacific-4-10-2 The model is powered by two XL PF motors, and a AAA battery box in the tender. An SBrick is housed in the tender as well. Features side rods by @zephyr1934. This engine can haul a LOT of rolling stock. Was going to test with all 45 of my train cars here soon but I am positive it will work exceptionally well. Let's get on to some pictures! Injection molded side rods, injection modeled Boxpok drivers, we would be set! I would happily pay the price for that. Would probably be slightly cheaper since a larger amount can be produced. -Jeffinslaw

Any possibility for injection molded Boxpok drivers in various styles? -Jeffinslaw

Great to hear. Hoping to adapt them to the variants on the Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, and SP&S. -Jeffinslaw

[MOC] NYC J3A 4-6-4 Hudson - Empire State Express
Jeffinslaw replied to ProvenceTristram's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Careful with this. You might have a lot of binding. Also, you need to make sure your gears are locked into place and can't flex out of contact. With your current setup, as soon as your wheels hit any sort of resistance, the gear on the axle coming out of your motor will pop out of contact and grind/skip. I would suggest incorporating 87408 into your gear setup. Also, go with a 20 toothed beveled gear for a bit of speed boost. -Jeffinslaw -
Well guys... have some bad news on part 48336 in reddish brown. Received an email from LEGO support that TLG is only producing enough of those pieces for that one specific set and they are not available for sale on their own. So that's a bummer. - Jeffinslaw

I would really love to see a collaboration between Shupp (Nate), Ben and zephyr1934 (Benn) for ABS molded train wheels and drive rods. That would be lovely. Thanks, Jeffery

BrickTracks: different curves, PF/9V compatible
Jeffinslaw replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I'm torn... I'd really like to back but... it's not 9V. While I understand why it isn't, it's just a little tough for me because I'm not ready to give up 9V yet, especially after purchasing well over $500 of ME models 9V curves. I'll think about it some more. Great to see the kickstarter though! -Jeffinslaw -
While these aren't from BMR, they do fit in quite nicely with their other offerings! They even use similar design wheel sets! If you are interested in building a few, you can purchase a set of instructions from my eBay page. Link is in the description of one of my photos in my Flickr stream. Anyone heard from Nate in awhile? Hoping he will make the Scullin style drivers in the XL size. Only available in XXL right now. -Jeffinslaw

Wouldn't work quite well since they are metal Will have to get some of those and try them out! Thanks for the link. -Jeffinslaw

ACE was my first stop. Found some that were really close to being perfect. ID and thickness were great but OD was about 2mm too big. -Jeffinslaw

Hey guys, I am looking for some washers to fit on technic axles to help with some very marginal space issues. I'd like them to be roughly the dimensions of the 1/2 bushings. Anyone have any links or suggestions? Thanks, Jeffinslaw

This is a very long term project for coaster. There won't be any updates for several months at least.

Here are some pictures of my USRA/AAR/PS1 custom boxcars. These were designed and built a long time before BMR released their PS1 instructions. I've got a ton of these things already built and will be building another ~9. Hey guys, Recently bought a large lot of vintage 9V train sets and parts. The 9V AC/DC wall plugs are the 230V European version. Anyone have any recommendations on replacements for 110V US? Was looking at these ones on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Planet-Waves-9V-Power-Adapter/dp/B00191WVF6/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&dpID=41UoeHnCcDL&dpPl=1&keywords=9v power supply&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&qid=1518564574&ref=plSrch&ref_=mp_s_a_1_3&sr=8-3 but not quite sure on the plug type... Thanks, Jeffinslaw

LPUB Issues/Questions

The LSynth parts do not show up in LDView... hmmmm.... And I have made the switch from LPub 4 to LPub3D last night after having a few too many issues. Noticed a decent improvement so far -Jeffinslaw *EDIT* I created an "Unofficial" folder within my Bricksmith folder and added a "parts" and "p" folder and when I open LDView, the synthesized parts and the constraint pieces now show up. They synthesized parts do not show up in the Parts List however... getting somewhere... I'm on a Mac by the way.- 13 replies
