Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Huaojozu replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Considering his history, I'm betting on the technic one. Two basic questions I would have that I don't think would reveal too much would be: 1) Azure + Dark Blue or Azure + Black? 2) How much System parts is used to make details, especially in the interior? EDIT: By his history I mean among other things -

Another thing to consider is the hype. Lego doesn't offer preorders, so even though I am super excited for 2H right now and would buy them immediately if I could, in August it may be a different story. The more time there is between the full reveal and the release date, the more likely I personally am to reconsider the purchases. -
At the scale of 42082? I certainly hope not.

Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Huaojozu replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Perhaps this year the Technic models are a bit more preliminary than in years past? That way Lego would be hesitant to pseudo-officially show them, if they are still considering significant changes (e.g. color). -
Awesome! I hope the main structure will be different and it's not just going to be rebuilding the crane arm into a drill, similarly to 42043/42054. I may just have to buy 2 sets if the B model ends up being as cool as it sounds.

What are they going to make the drill from, though? Do we have any examples of Lego drill machine sets where the actual drill is not one of the specialized drill molds? Also, I really hope it's one of those big construction machines used to drill deep holes, and not the mining vehicle with a drill on its forehead, so to speak.

42083 - Bugatti Chiron
Huaojozu replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Most likely no B-model, just like the Porsche. Though I'm interested what the community can come up with. -
You can check reddit for legoleaks, then follow to a discord channel where all the prelims are posted. Hospital and two of the large arctic sets so far. + trains. The Hospital still seems bland to me. I will have to decide whether to buy or not based on the interior - I already hate wasting piece count on YET ANOTHER helicopter and an ambulance that doesn't really look like an ambulance. 12 minifgs + a skeleton though, tempting.

Spectacular. I hope this receives enough attention on the Ideas website to reach the review stage. I would definitely buy a set like this. There are two things I would change. I don't quite see the point of the floor extending beyond the walls at the open side. Shortening it by 3 studs would make it more compact without compromising anything. On a similar note, I feel the space in the middle is a bit empty with just 3 stools. I realize this is realistic but it's not something you would see in a Lego set.

That's not true though. Courtesy of Google Translate from Promobricks: The Technic models of the second half of the year were certainly one of the highlights at the LEGO booth at the International Toy Fair 2018 . A total of four models were there ready to view and try out. Half of it is motorized with Power Functions. As already mentioned several times, unfortunately no pictures were allowed to be taken. That's why we describe the sets as well as possible - and highlight the important details.

Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Huaojozu replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Disappointing, but expected. It will be interesting to see how people mod it in with an ultimate version MOC. Since you were at the fair, can you please compare the size of 42082 to 42009 or even 42055? Does it have System-built details? Any ideas on where do all those 4000 pieces go? Was the "house" that comes with the set on display too? Is it as basic as the prelims indicate or do you think it could munch more pieces from the piece count than expected? -

Depends largely on exterior colors. I can't see blue/black exterior with black interior happening. -

My bet is on a System build for the curves and for the front. It would explain the higher piece count, seeing as System takes way more parts to fill the same space than Technic. -

Oh God, that 42082 parts count. Considering BWE is more 3000 ish (without the truck and the "soil"), this will be one MONSTER of a build. I bought nothing in 2017 - in hindsight that was smart as all that budget can go towards the AMAZING 2018. -

Huaojozu replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, I am really looking forward to how they do the curves. And related, whether it will be pure Technic like 42056 or more of aTechnic/System hybrid like the Mack. Also, same scale as the Porsche, yet 900 more parts. I think we are looking at the most expensive Technic set ever. -
I had to disassemble the BWE and before I laid the parts to rest for a while, I create a quick GBC module. It's based on the Particle Accelerator MOCs and uses a wheel to propel a ball up a curved ramp. Since the wheel imparts a lot of backspin on the ball, it sometimes doesn't reach the end of the main track and instead reverses onto a side track exit mechanism. For funsies, I just connected the exit track back to the main track but I could just as well connect it to a different module. That way each ball could go for a couple rides before exiting to the next module. Badly lighted video here:

A Lego Technic killer machine, you say? Now that's a flagship I would buy. And a first 18+ age recommendation for Lego :D -

^Considering the crane load could have been pretty much anything, I would assume the way it was decided on was at least partly based on what the B model would require. Basically saying, here are the parts from the Crane - what else do you need to make it into an awesome <Blank>? -

I think the box dimensions of 42083 speak volumes. It's 570mm long vs standard 582mm of "normal" large sets (42055,42069,42070,42078,42081,42082) so it's definitely special. -

Here's the catalog. Page 40 for Technic. Slightly less skewed pics and a bigger pic for one set at Page 2. Looking at the pneumatics, the red blade might actually spin... -
Page 72 for the Hospital. Personally, I was hoping for something less City-ish and more Modular-ish in terms of the outer design. It will all depend on what's included in the interior; hopefully it can supplement what we have in the Heartlake hospital.
