Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
brobert replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Well, in that they have pauldrons...it's not that big of a difference. Although it is nice to have both versions next to each other. Makes the entourage all the more intimidating, especially if you make a badass blaster instead of the much loved stud-shooters. That SF pilot is very interesting. You see, I thought all the pilots have the same outfit, but then I saw in the visual guide that the SF pilots are supposed to have the 2 red stripes across the helmets. Now, in the actual movie, when we see TIE pilots, they are actually not flying SF TIE-s, but the normal ones... Think about it, that's the only scene when they chase down the Falcon when we actually see a TIE from the inside which is piloted by a FO pilot. At first, I even thought that the stripes on the helmet are just reflections of red lights. So make of this what you want, as far as I remember, we never actually see a SF pilot piloting a SF fighter in the movie... -
Nobody seems to take the other way into consideration, that the Idea might not get approved, because they are already planning a release of a similar model. I think that too is in the conditions. But for a huuuge (maybe even tremendous) anniversary like this, I would think they are planning for a couple of years, keeping an eye on especially popular ideas, market research, etc. so they can get the most out of it. From the infos dropped by SVL I think it's not too far-fetched to speculate a BB-8 (if we cling on the sphere comment), it would be awesome. If it's close to life-size, it would justify the rumored higher than ever cost too
-
I would be so satisfied with that. If it's no CC or Yavin base, make it a vehicle.

The A-wing was just released as a system-scale set, it's unlikely that it'll have the UCS treatment anytime soon, or? (Not to mention the rebels A-wing) I doubt they would release anything RO-specific either, the most important vehicles were released in multiple scales already. (AT-ACT maybe, but I don't see that coming, it's frankly not that memorable.) I think we should be careful about the pricing rumors, if there's really a very expensive set coming, as you say, it's unlikely to get 2 other UCS sets on top of that. 1000$ for a year on lego would be a bit...much. And yes, now we know how many of you don't care about the money but still...that's a lot for a year.
-
Ok, I see your point. My god those prices....but that's a completely different topic, these are just expensive because they are old and mint condition. At the end, they are still just a piece of not even that well molded plastic... But yeah, in Lego, the bigger the better mostly, and the level of detail on these sets is amazing most of the time, so yeah, they can justify the cost more or less. BTW, I want to be like you when I'm 40+
-
Yeah of course, the buying power is there, but the other economical priorities as you said...I could afford it too if I absolutely wanted to, but when I bought the Slave-I, I even had to do it in secret, and hide under the umbrella of my birthday so my fiancee wouldn't absolutely freak out :D Maybe it's just that I originally come from Hungary, where to buy a set of this price range is definitely luxury for most people, and I'm still a bit in that mindset.. But I guess it's not much difference when people are spending 1000+ $ on a smartphone, or other gadgets, it's just another hobby. Mind you, if a UCS Falcon comes out and it's as good as we hope it is, I will strongly consider buying it as well.... I'm not at all surprised, do we know what the rest of the best sellers were?
-
My point of view is, it doesn't matter how gorgeous it is, it it's going to be even more expensive than anything before, that's just crazy. The old UCS falcon was 500 bucks as I see on brickset, the new DS is also that much, which is already big money, if they release a 600+ $ set, they are out of their minds. Who has that kind of money just lying around? I mean...I think I'm already spending too much money on LEGO sets, but I know some of you guys must spend even more. Seriously, is there anyone to whom a 500+$ set is an instant buy without a blink of an eye? :D That's a really good attitude, expextations and rumors from unverified sources are wreaking havoc at this point. Let's manage our expectations.

The UCS Hype. What will 2017 bring? (40th Anniversary)
brobert replied to Major_Ton's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hah :D Thank you! Finally someone shares my opinion. That ship really isn't anything interesting. It's a very basic design, and nothing iconic happened on it except for: "It's a trap!" Make it the Nebulon-B frigate and you got yourself a great set. Although, afer the amazing moc of mortesv....it wouldn't compare. -
Well well, Sir Teaser von Lego stirred the waters This is worse than not having any info...I don't know what to think about this year's UCS sets now. So basically the Snowspeeder is considered sure at this point, and the MF very likely? If the 3rd set is true, and not actually instead of the MF, that will probably be a playset, or? Although last year we only had playsets as "UCS", so they could make it up to AFOLs and treat us to 3 great vehicle models. The speeder will be a pass for me, but if the MF is not so crazy in price, I'll get that for sure.

TBH, the LEGO version of rebels stormies doesn't differ much from OT ones. The proportions are all the same thanks to the dimensional constraints, so the only difference is the color of the grills right? Anyway, I wouldn't shed a tear if Rebels were cancelled, but more importantly, I hope The freemakers fail, and those slots can be freed for some quality sets. Honestly, those ships look like they sat down 5 kindergartners and told them to build a spaceship. Which is fine I guess, but the sets are taking up slots from potentially better ones. At those prices, we could get some awesome sets. But to be really honest. Now that I think about it, I don't even have a wishlist at the moment...would this be the end? I mean, a nice system scale snowspeeder would be nice like mentioned before me, but I probably wouldn't get it, because my diorama already has one and can't fit one more... The only thing I really miss is a great X-wing. Not a mediocre one like the current offerings, but a really great one.
-
I for one am happy to hear that, since everything in Rebels is basically the already known stuff slightly redesigned. with silly colors and stuff, so if you want to buy something that is actually in the OT or the PT, but the toy is based on Rebels, it just looks off. Not LEGO example: I got a stormtrooper figure as a present from my coworkers, which would be great, but it's the stupid looking animated stormie, with weir looking long legs and feet, and deformed helmet. The thing I really hate about rebels' animation though is Vader's redesign. Just...why... Anyway, Star Wars needs to be more innovative in the upcoming years, because if they just rehash the same old stuff every year, it will get really old very soon. Then we might get some mouth-watering LEGO sets too. I don't envy LEGO designers, because they don't have much original material to work with, so they have to design sets like the quadjumper, that nobody would even want, if we had some original designs in TFA... To me, the only interesting new design since the new era of SW is the U-wing, that is the most unique and memorable ship in the 2 new movies so far, and it actually makes sense. Weird, I watched the first season in a day, but I am not super keen to continue with the second. Clone Wars is not that easy to get into either, after a couple of episodes with ol' J.J. Abrams Binks, I want to punch the TV. I just don't know where to start that series.

I think this topic could be closed, there is a discussion topic in the community anyway...

I think it's up to your taste really, the Krennic shuttle in itself is probably the best from these 3. Good build, pretty huge, and great minifigs. If you'd have an X-wing rather than this, then buy one of those. The resistance one is better from a minifig perspective, but I personally am passing on both because I don't find them a particularly good representation of the source material. I'd rather wait for a better T-70, I'm in no hurry, but my space is limited so I have to be picky :) -
Welcome to the forum, one thing: you should probably post this to the general questions topic, it's basically for these kinds of questions, one of the mods will probably merge it to that thread anyway.

Ah, I see. But still, even with taxes you're better off than in Europe..and the tax rate is not so different here either. -

Dude, be thankful if you get the A-wing for 50 CAN, here it's 60 CHF, which would be 79 in your region...and the average EU price is also 50 EUR, so... -
I'm disappointed that TLG doesn't allow to take photos on the toy fair about the summer wave sets...The TLJ sets, sure makes sense, don't spoil that, but we basically know already all of the june sets, this secrecy doesn't make any difference. On the other hand, while I generally dislike this wave, if I could look at nice high quality pictures of them until June, I might get to like some of them :)

The Y-wing is an iconic ship, none of the other can even come close. So if you don't own that in any iteration, I'd go for that too. -
Thanks Ellis, yes, it already looks better than just plain on the glass shelf, I have to get creative with my space since I don't have too much to fit my legos already :) I don't know when I'm going to finish it, probably only when I have another set that I want to buy but looking at the leaked 2017 sets so far, I won't have much to get until autumn...

DK: Rogue One, The Ultimate Visual Guide Book
brobert replied to Ahzeal's topic in Culture & Multimedia
ah, why didn't you start with that...I don't know what's going on, does it show for anyone else? it's supposed to be in a shared album...it's a pain to share photos here, and I'm not going to start using another upload service... I understand these may be in the book, but those names are for the concepts most of the time. I don't own that particular book but e.g. in the Art of TFA it also has many designs close to the final versions, but still being referred to with the concept name, like the Jedi killer. Super tanker is likely not the "official" name of that shuttle, that's not very Star Wars-y, and like we mentioned the "dt transport" also has a name now.
