  1. Some of your points are fair, but as you said, this forum shouldn't be about ranting at LEGO knockoffs. Yes this practice is malicious without a question, yes it is bad practice, we probably all agree on that, but let's face it, China is a "little" world in itself, and "legal" is a very flexible term I think you'll find. You're right, laws are defending these kinds of things - between similarly thinking countries. None of our European, or even international laws mean a thing for them, in this topic. And it's not about defending David against Goliath, nobody said they are saints, but just like TLG, or any other company, they are doing whatever it takes to make profit. They just do it a bit more...well disgusting for the western eye. And they get away with it. But none of this is new, China has always manufactured cheap knockoffs of everything, big companies just realized that there's nothing to do about it. BMW sued a car manufacturer because they made a car that looked just like theirs. They've lost. They had to accept it. And you're right, this is a LEGO fan forum, but being a fan doesn't mean you have to be a yes man and refuse to be informed about all sides of a story. Especially that no one is saying that what they do is fully OK.
  2. THIS. These are some very good points. This whole thing about Lepin vs. Lego is about one giant fighting really hard to twist the last dime out of someone else's hands. Lepin won't end, because Chinese courts won't ever recognize the theft, as they didn't when car manufacturers sued for stealing their car designs. I honestly don't see LEGO having much benefit out of shutting down Lepin. As you well wrote, the two products have a very different clientelle. People don't buy Lepin because they are Lepin fans, they buy it because it's available for them, because they are poor most likely. Anyone who could afford Lego but buys this crp, would be an idiot anyways. Now of the topic itself of stealing MOC designs, that blows, but there's equally nothing anyone could do about it either I think. The real problem is someone is capitalizing on great ideas that were never meant to be sold, and couldn't be anyway because of IP-rights. If a company doesn't care if they carbon copy the product of a huge company, why would they care about one guy somewhere who doesn't have a hunredth of the resources (legally and otherwise). The blowback of this for the community is that MOC-ers will be more secretive about their ideas everywhere, not releasing instructions or LDD files, so no one will share their ideas. Or sell their plans for money, which on my opinion just as appalling.
  3. I don't envy you being a mod in this topic in particular... even if you say something 3 pages later it will be blown to pieces, containing a fraction of the info and 10x more crap added by the escalating guessing.
  4. oh boy, are we back again to the "UCS Falcon guesses and desires" topic? Is Stash sleeping or just being nice for the time being?
  5. I don't think I'll sell the R2 if I get it, I like it. But the store calendar that was posted from Germany in the other thread didn't say anything about double VIP points...on the other hand, now that I checked on S@H, there's a 3x VIP point promo for everything...
  6. I need advice good people of Eurobricks. Local TRU has 20% off Lego sets for a week and it got me thinking...I wouldn't mind a UCS TIE, and at 20% off I could get it around 180-190 bucks. (normal price here is 220) But I'm not sure if it would be worth waiting for the May 4th promotion...As I saw on the EU store calendar, TLG will offer a couple of discounts, but I don't think there will be an amount like this... what should I do, go for this promo or wait for the 4th?
  7. No I don't actually really believe that...but for a company like LEGO the costs of producing this in a run in insignificant next to the power of the Force
  8. Dude, someone already recreated it in LDD, check the thread, it looks exactly like this. If you really want it, you can easily bricklink it, probably cheaper than 40 bucks. There's really not much to this other than a decently designed set piece. I don't think there is so much extra cost involved here, since there are no exclusive parts, ike you say it is easily rebuildable by anyone who wants it. A box is not that expensive to produce in a small amount. It's this expensive because it's exclusive.
  9. Nice job, probably cheaper to build then to travel to the celebration and apply for a CHANCE that you might be able to purchase it for 40 bucks...
  10. Too bad the Snowspeeder went up in price compared to the other similarly sized UCS sets of recent years. No way I'd consider getting it without a discount. In fact, there are not many desirable sets nowadays that I would pick up even with a 40% discount...maybe the UCS Tie, but we all know that's not going to happen
  11. good review, too bad it came after the set was already retired though... anyways, I like this set, I was able to pick it up before retired with a nice discount, it has it's shortcomings, but TLG likes to give us ALMOST everything to a specific scene, so you have to buy more stuff to complete it. Other than that, it's great. Looks good on display like this.
  12. Oh, right...I got them confused. In my mind I already combined the two :D Wouldn't that be better though? :D
  13. It's probably the first of a line, because it comes with a stand that has connectors on the side to go with others. I welcome a new line of buildable droids, especially if there aren't going to be only astromechs, looks way better than the uninspired brickheads line.
  14. well put sir, that is at least a well founded rumor .
  15. Nice! But you might want to dial back a bit on the DOF, especially at the shot with Han and Rey their faces are not equally in focus
  16. I've been avoiding this thread for a while now, lurking back every once in a while, but as I can see not much has changed.... Maybe it would be better to lock it until something comes along that's worth speculating about, but this continuous guessing out of thin air is ridiculous really.. Or rename it "Lego Star Wars 2017 Wild guesses and unconfirmed half-informations"
  17. Great builds, the Y-wing is basically flawless, a lot nicer than the new official set, and the A-wing is nice too, especially the solution for the gap on the nose, but the back of the engines look nicer on the official set, so that's only 9.5/10 to me. :P
  18. really nice, my favourite part is the star destroyer build
  19. Well that's convenient. And also, anybody can say that. As I'm sure many do..
  20. Just one more advice, you might also want to experiment with the built-in flash of the camera - by holding a diffuser in front of it of course. So that can give you another light source, now I don't know how hard your camera's flash is, but it might be worth a shot if you find something that can lighten it enough. But I'll finish being a smarta... happy experimenting!
  21. I am not familiar with all the parts lego uses in other themes, but I think they would probably find a close to matching hairpiece, the cobbled together legs, yeah that might need a custom mold, but rather just some similar mechanical legs that they can use or used already elsewhere. The cape is not molded, and they typically don't pay too much attention to those (the imperial guards are also wearing capes which is far from accurate), but Boba's cape would work in different color. I would think dismemberment is against LEGO's child-driendly policy :D
  22. Keep it up, you're getting there! Like I said, I don't know how much you're into photo editing, but most of the shortcomings coming from the setup can be corrected easily in post. All in all your setup seems to be coming together nicely.
  23. Dude, this is so much better than the official set. The only addition I could advise would be to maybe add another laser barrier (or whatever), it looks like it would fit.
  24. Not bad, but I think the overall shape could be more curved slope-y
