Doctor Who: 10th and 11th Doctors
Luke Styer replied to AyliffeMakit's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
I haven't really given a ton of thought to Hurt's Doctor yet. I don't know that I've looked at him enough to really have a feel for torso or hair piece. For his head you'll need an "elderly" looking head, preferably with a beard. Hurt wears a van dyke in character, and I'm not aware off hand of any older looking heads that sport a van dyke. Where his hair is sort of upswept, though, you could almost use the same hair piece you use for the Tenth, if it were available in gray, which I do not believe it is. We definitely have a new puzzle on our hands, and a bit earlier than we expected to have to start dealing with Capaldi.- 21 replies

Awesome car! I'd be pretty happy to make a couple in different colors.

Doctor Who: 10th and 11th Doctors
Luke Styer replied to AyliffeMakit's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
It looks like this torso. I'm having a hard time choosing a torso for a minifigure of the 11th Doctor. The one you chose calls to mind that Western episode. He needs a Stetson. Stetsons are cool.- 21 replies

That's one gorgeous building you have there!

I'm have to buck the trend here and say that I prefer the second version, though both are very cool designs.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
Luke Styer replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I love that pic of the white-eyed Turtles. There's been something that I couldn't quite put my finger on that didn't look right to me about these minifigs, and now seeing that, I think it may be the eyes. So I'm joining you in hoping we get white-eyed variants. -
My vote goes to Green Lantern because I love how you "brick built" his emblem.

Looks great. I think it's interesting how you put the mohawks on the double sided faces. It works much better than I would have expected with face with the red warpaint. I would be interested in a better look at the back of the figure with Tonto's face.

Love both cars. I always like to see the same basic car design executed in two different color schemes. It just makes it feel more "real" to me.

MOC: Generic Medeival Building
Luke Styer replied to ResIpsaLoquitur's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I like it. I hadn't paid any attention to MBA 7, but you've certainly inspired me to look it up. -
Excellent! Thank you for sharing.

That is amazing. Wonderful piece!

Excellent MOC overall, but I want to particularly call out those parking meters, a small detail that really adds to the verisimilitude. The building facade is really great as well. I wouldn't mind seeing it expanded into a full-fledged building.

Awesome MOC. I love that it works both as a structure and as a "scene."

Review: 76007 Iron Man: Malibu Mansion Attack
Luke Styer replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the great review. I was already leading toward buying this set, but your photos have nonetheless encouraged me. -
From straight on I'm sure it wouldn't always even be all that obvious you were mixing. From other angles, it would show up more, of course. For my part, I only have one actual Modular set, but I have rebuilt my three CITY buildings into the modular standard.

Review: Arctic Batman vs. Mr. Freeze: Aquaman on Ice
Luke Styer replied to Oky's topic in LEGO Licensed
If true that's only fair considering Nite Owl was, in turn, "inspired" by Batman. Also, even if that particular costume variation was in someone's mind when the notion of an arctic suit for Batman in this particular LEGO set, I find it pretty hard to believe that Batman never appeared in a white variation on his costume in the 40 plus years between his introduction and the publication of Watchmen. Variant costumes were a staple of Silver Age DC comics in general. I eventually picked up this set, and I thought the Bat Boat was a fun build, though I agree that the yellow highlights are a little odd. I suppose the yellow oval sort of makes yellow a more sensible highlight color than the blue of the Tumbler set, but I still wish LEGO had stuck more with black and grey. I almost immediately let Aquaman out of the ice block and put Captain America in.- 67 replies

This is a very fun modification. I don't recall if I asked how many copies of the set it took.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
Luke Styer replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
More likely it means he'd face some kind of legal liability if he refuses to appear in the movie. U.S. courts rarely enforce employment contacts by forcing someone to work. That skirts a little close to slavery. -
Great set, especially for the price point. I'd have preferred more "traditional" Cap colors for the minifigure, but it was clearly the movie version, so I won't fault it for that. I will fault it a bit for the maroon motorcycle. I ended up trading in the red motorcycle from the City fire motorcycle set. For what it's worth, I would vote to keep Marvel and DC threads separate. I think there's such a thing as cramming too much into one thread. When a thread gets to a certain size it can look a little unwelcoming. And the Marvel and DC lines are technically distinct anyway, so that seems like a logical division for the threads to follow.
