  1. This has everything that I look for on this forum. Modern building techniques, that era of pirates that I grew up with, and sensible level of detail. And did I mention the playability? This is an awesome MOC... it's like the best parts of every recent successful system pirates set! MAC
  2. It's always refreshing for those of us who missed out on classic pirates to see ships built on the new hulls. This one looks amazing! Must have taken hours to build. Well done! MAC
  3. Epic fortress my man! I've looked at this for five hours minutes and I can't figure out how the angles work. Care to elaborate? MAC
  4. *Hamilton intensifies* MAC
  5. These should be cursed. Somwhere on the Paganomation Little Guys! spectrum of cursed Lego busts. But they aren't somehow. I don't know how you do it, but these look really good! It almost makes me think that some of Lego's TV shows could benefit from having their up-close shots done in this bust style. Also, nice use of those brown boxes in the sleeves. Great work! MAC
  6. You get my upvote for those chubby little guns! MAC
  7. T h a n k ! I appreciate the feedback; I am thrilled to have my ship likened to that masterpiece! Probably the first project on here that made me think, "y'know, I want a ship now too." Also, thanks for rudder forgiveness. ^u^ Horatio does too! I mean, you can't sit on pipe organs... Ooh yesss! Thanks! I haven't ever played the game, but I believe the Jackdaw is a brigantine like this one. Such a fierce profile for a ship fitted with a mere three twelves and a long nine!
  8. Heh heh, I love the wig mount you added on the dresser. Great touch! MAC
  9. This is really pretty. I love the use of the inverted quarter domes to shape up the bow. Looks great! For how many hours do you think you worked on this treat? Keep it up! MAC
  10. Hello friends! After so many years of reading and fawning over everyone else's ships, I finally got up the courage to post one of my own. I wanted to make a pirate ship that was playable while still being sort of accurate. So while you won't see any hand-strung shrouds and ratlines, I can assure you that it's a hit with the kids. I call it the Medusa, mostly because of the green color scheme I adopted for this project. Pirate ships look so good in red and black, sometimes I forget that any vessel could have been a pirate ship. I opted to portray this pirate captain before his debilitating injuries. His name is Horatio North, in case you're wondering. Okay, so I'm aware that rudder is garbage. I actually forgot to build a rudder at all until I went to take pictures. It will get revised out when I go to clean up that quarter; it looks o.k. in real life, but the picture definitely doesn't catch its good side. Fun fact: half the cannon doors on this ship are fake! Even though I'm too young to have played with classic pirate sets, I respect the nostalgia with this fancy chap. Besides, he matches the ship! The more attractive, rugged version of that last bloke I think that thing is called a 'cathead.' The figurehead was a pain in the butt, but the end result is worth it IMHO Most of the sails are easy to take down and replace after a fierce battle The very meh stern Yup. This is the innovative, super-useful thing I put in the cabin. Kinda looks like the chair from Blue's Clues. A bookcase, since I failed at making a brick-built map of the world on that wall. I did, however, find room for my favorite detail from The Brick Bounty Okay, so I basically make storage space when I can't think of anything cool to go there. u_u Under the bell and the [fake] scuttle, I included some bunks. Can someone help me out? I know I took this cannon design from somebody on this forum, but I can't remember who it was. Let me know if these look familiar so I can properly thank them. Finally, a shot of the jolly bunch all together. This was my fourth focused attempt to make a brig that was both fun to play with and more accurate than not. Not sure if I succeeded, but I had a blast doing it. I have another ship I built for the Bluecoats that I haven't photographed yet. With your comments and constructive criticisms, perhaps I can coax up the courage to post that piece as well. MAC
  11. Not a usual on this forum, but when I visit, I'm always impressed with folks like you. WOW! This is majestic, and so detailed too. Each of the buildings is fine by itself, but the whole setup is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. I feel compelled to cite a few techniques I like a lot. 1) The absence of weathering on the stonework comes across as crisp, thanks in part to the palette you've chosen for the surrounding structures. 2) In Farm House 1, I appreciate the centralized location for the furnace. This resounds quite well with many cottage depictions I've seen, as well as a few lodge-style motels that reminisce a medieval vibe. 3) The landforms are all very rectilinear, which I appreciate, seeing as this world is comfortable with the fact that it's LEGO. Far too often I get carried away with realism and forget that "LEGO open world" appeal. All together, well done! MAC
  12. "Chubby" isn't a word I'd usually associate with a good ship, but somehow you've still pulled it off here. Props to you! MAC
  13. Clearly one of them did, unless you'd have me believe that parrots can take more than blurry UFO-grade photos MAC
  14. When you say 'sandcastle,' it makes me believe that this man built the lookout out of sand. When I see the skelly in the grotto, it makes me believe that he didn't do it alone. MAC
  15. I haven't supported a project in about five years. But now I'm number 5801! This looks fantastic, I really hope it goes through. You got me on the playability! MAC
  16. This didn't get nearly enough attention. Well done matey! Dang, now you're making me want to go watch this underappreciated movie again... I can't get over how solid he looks when in reality he's most likely quite fragile. Is that a tire on his left cuff too? MAC
  17. It's a 'yes' from me MAC
  18. Those buildings are stunning. So much detail in so little space. Approved! MAC
  19. Y'know, the past is nostalgic but the future sure is promising! This is a fantastic model on its own, but the references and nods to classic lego lore make it a day one buy. Oh the difference two hours' news can make in a person's mood! MAC
  20. That Bat-skull on the flag is brilliant! A lot of great techniques here. However, RIP that epee... unless finesse trumps physics here MAC
  21. Hey @Corydoras As I stated before, this is a nice dock moc. (Hey, that rhymes...) The rolling barrel feature is wonderful and adds a lot of playability. I can see the ramp there by the tavern door. I guess I'm getting a reputation on this forum as a advocate for play features over historical accuracy so I'm a fan of this post. Keep up the good work! MAC
  22. @Corydoras That is a very delightful dock. I'm sorry for ruffling your feathers.
  23. Wow, those look fabulous for custom Lego coats. I'm sure the geometry to make the patterns is difficult to get right. You mentioned that these were a pet project... how many versions did you have to go through to get these? Maybe it's a chunk of his face? MAC
  24. Pretty harsh criticisms. This MOC serves as a reminder that life can be jolly for the Imperials too. I know it's not really the sort of thing you usually build based on your topics, but maybe you could focus on what you think works well here? Did you notice the seamless inclusion of a torsion spring brick that powers the crane here? @Mister Phes Looks good matey. I always love Pirates III imperial builds, being the young whippersnapper that I am! MAC

Ah, a very refreshing build. Reminds me of playing Age of Empires when about 57 of these would get all jammed up in some canal and hold up my gold supply. MAC
