  1. In a similar vein, there was discussion elsewhere about what LEGO would do to top the UCS Falcon, and honestly, I hope they don't. I really don't want another oversized ship that I don't have the room or current inclination to attempt to display. I'd be much happier with 10 detailed system scale ships with new minifigs, but I know we get what we get and there is no point fighting it. I didn't want to miss out on it, but I don't want the moneymaking scheme that is $500 sets to get out of hand. It's a good one-time thing and that's that. These mega models people put together impress me initially, but I can't imagine trying to deal with owning one. Taking it apart? Insane. Keeping it together, covered in dust? Just as bad. Some of them feel like they belong in a glass case in a LEGO museum somewhere. An item of curiousity, but not one to own personally. That said, the same rules apply as with small mocs. Do something interesting and do it well. Sinner is dead on with this one. Often, the bigger ones try to make up for a lack of interesting technique with size, but it's just the same parts repeating over and over. Spending massive amounts on something like that doesn't impress me. I tend to excuse pirate ships though. I could see a large one on a mantle, and that makes it at least reasonable to me.
  2. Welcome to central Florida! Good to have another AFOL here! *y* As for what to do ... go with what feels right. There's no rule that says you have to pick up entire themes, as nice as that may be. If you're in a space/money situation, just grab the sets with the most unique parts that you really like or that you know you'll most regret missing. Merging the themes could be interesting. Pirates are really an extension of castle in many ways, with the potential to build huge castle-like forts similar to the kind the Spanish used in the Caribbean.
  3. 8107 - Exoforce ~ Fight for the Golden Tower, clearance sale at Target. No drawf mining to be seen ... :'-( They had Hogwarts at maybe %25 off, but it still didn't look that great. Half off and I'll buy one. Oh, and a bunch more storage containers for minifig parts and accessories.
  4. Yay for Nesquick head! Nice minifig selections there! *y* Theoretically, entries are due within the next 3 hours, but I'm going to be very relaxed about this and not shut it down until somewhere around this time tomorrow when I start my next posting day (this being my usual time to check in and see what's up at Whackerland EB) ;-) That said, get your entries in now people, time's a wastin'!
  5. I swear, I haven't even dealt with him yet ... *wacko* As for me, I'm a 26, 100% positive, but pure buyer and not much of one really. I reserve Bricklink for very specific things. I need something, I search for a while until I find someone with a variety of things on my wanted list, I put in a $50+ order. I don't like small orders there, they seem wasted. I use real stores, eBay and private deals for my bargain hunting.
  6. I was expecting a lot of whacking and beating down, and instead it was a touching tale of new friends full of real emotion and character interraction. BOO! *n* Noooo, I'm kidding! X-D It was very nice, especially the ending. That last shot captured the feeling of the scene perfectly. Very well done indeed! Friendship On! *y*
  7. A lot of those small castle sets going around ... A crossbow attack and a final joust to see if they really are as good as they look. More will follow, if so, and I'm betting that's the case. Couple of eBay orders came in including pirate parts, paradisa baseplates and figures, lot of misc printed pieces and cannons. Good stuff, nothing spectacular though. Always happy to pick up more blue baseplates, one day I'll have enough to make some kind of port display, I hope.
  8. That's a fine translation job there! Joey: Here is the page where you can search for a user, assuming they use the same name. http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...php?act=Members
  9. If I ever get around to building all of my Batman sets, he is so going to be added to the Penguin's henchmen, perhaps as a robot explodaguin! Great find! Animals On! *y*
  10. Mmmm, pie. Anyone bearing tasty treats is always welcome around these parts, so come on in, grab a chair and take a load off. It's a long journey from that other land of LEGO forumness, but I think you'll find the mood a lot more relaxed and welcoming here. *y*
  11. Wow, more reminders of my weirdness. Ok, I buy sets for the sole purpose of building them exactly as shown. If, for example, I want to use a minifig from a set for something else, I have to buy two. Here's where it gets sick. I intend to buy at least 2 of the Hoth Base, one so I can build it 'by the instructions' and once so I can actually get those doors to the right size and fill in the gaps. I don't do the minifig thing quite the same way though. I've been buying up large quantities of them from various sources and restoring them. Basically trying to create a display of 1 of each of the type. So, I'm working on literally hundreds of tiny little projects all at once that way, with each completed figure placed on a baseplate with all the rest of the same theme. New parts/minifigs come in, I figure out what I can make out of them to achieve the most completed 'missing' minifigs. After that, the plan gets weird. I'm going to go through every set instruction online and copy out the exact minifigs that belong in it and create a page of that information. Not just a row of pics but detailed inventory of each figure so that you know, from both looking and reading, exactly what belongs in that set. Then I'll sort all of the sets by theme and index it. I believe I can extract most of that information from Bricklink directly, but they have a weird habit of allowing minifigs in their inventory that simply don't exist. In pirates there are several cases of figures listed with a particular hat or head that were never issued in that format. I want to avoid that completely. I'm sure I'll think of more of these, or you will and I'll recognise the symptoms. Keep up the good work! *wacko* *y*
  12. Gentlemen, today we grow not only a little older, but a little wiser, I hope. That said, act like you're 8 and jump up and down if you don't get enough LEGO. Oh, and eat cake, but not until you've gotten it on your nose. Anyone asks what you're doing, tell 'em it's "imperialshadows style" and they'll shut up. >:-) Seriously, happy birthday to both of you! ;-)
  13. I've considered that before, but I never use the stickers at all, so I just slip them carefully in the instructions and then those go in the appropriate file folder. I do, however, buy cheap sticker sheets for sets I don't have, just to have them. Which is odd, since I don't ever use them either. Great. That makes me want to go through all of my eBay Pirate purchases to seperate out the old and new. Nice work, you've just given me a new quirk. *wacko* *y* No, what would have been important is if he had managed to save the tile. Clearly you've got some messed up perspective there. Oh, and did you notice how crazy interesting Brick Miner is? I think you need to send him a bunch of questions for a future interview! ;-)
  14. LAST DAY! Now it's time to panic! Ok, so this contest is going down in flames, but it was a damn good idea. I'll try to come up with a less demanding one next time, one that doesn't require exposure to anything specific, more real-life oriented and likely to allow more people to participate. :-$ Still, I think we've had some fine entries and voting will begin on the 15th, assuming I can get the whole voting thread thing right (I'm sure I can). ;-) That said, if anyone out there sees this and suddenly thinks, "oh crap! I was going to do that!" post here and we'll consider a slight delay to the ending. Otherwise, the show must go on! *y*
  15. Some great work there and it's good to see that someone finally apprehended Stinky's killer, though it apparently took a long time and we're somewhere in the distant future. *y* I'm looking forward to seeing all 10 of these together. Will it be some form of ship that basically serves as a transport for these, like a container ship with these as the cargo? My idea would be to treat it like a space module construction. Ship is basically just a bridge, long connecting hallway/spine, and an engine, with these in between in whatever number can fit. Ship lands at an asteroid prison and these can be removed (with your crawler idea) and simply attached directly to the prison. Prisoner never gets out for any reason. Used/no-longer-needed cells can then be attached back to the ship for removal and refilling. Something vaguely like this, but with a lot more of them inbetween the first and last sections: Very cold and efficient. I love it! *y*
  16. You managed to get the song stuck in my head. Accordingly, it's only fair to do it to others!
  17. Inspired by the box and bag saving discussion in the EB News Jocko Interview, I felt compelled to start this thread. Basically, this is the place where you admit to your little odd behaviours concerning LEGO. I'll start it off, to be fair (though I did the box/bag confession in the original thread). As suggested there, ziplock type bags are the best type for storing sets or sorted parts, assuming you don't have a wall of drawers and containers to use. With that in mind, I collect said bags. If I go in a store and they have them on sale, I might end up buying 10 boxes, and if it's all I'm buying, people give me a funny look. One time, the girl at the register surprisingly asked what I was using so many small bags for (why do people think that's acceptable conversation?) and I said, "well, you didn't have any big enough for body parts, so I'll just have to use a lot of these." Then I smiled a sort of evil demented smile (some say it's my normal one), paid, and left. >:-) The extension of this is Bricklink orders. I love a good Bricklink order where all the parts are sorted into 150 little bags, especially if the seller is somewhat inefficient about it. I've placed an order for 50 lots before and had them arrive in 100 little bags with 3 of something in one, 2 in another, and 5 more in a third bag. I combine them down and carefully put all of the spare bags away for future use. Sometimes I think about how it would sound to explain this out loud. Expensive orders to feed my addiction to tiny chemical based materials in little baggies. Oh yeah, that's going on my resume. So there, I've exposed a silly side of myself, and when I think of more, I'll continue it. Until then, it's your turn! What strange things do you do with, because of, or when buying LEGO products? How about your embarassing moments with LEGO? You know you've had them, now share with the community and so will we and everyone will feel just a little bit better, or weirder, but closer nonetheless. LEGO Quirks On! *y*
  18. This is turning into an episode of LEGO Confessions now (hey, I might just see if that's ever been done before and try it) ... Cancel this post, I'm gonna go check on making a new thread for just that purpose. *y*
  19. Sure you aren't drunk now? X-O If you're near a computer while undergoing the refreshment process, but not posting, just what are you doing? 8-
  20. I was looking at all those LEGO 'accessories' or whatever earlier and almost placed an order. If they'd throw the egg timer or melamine plates in, I'd be sold :-$ X-D
  21. No worries, we've gone random again, it was a passing phase. I'm in halloween mode, personally. As for cliques, the only one around here is the sound of good quality LEGO brick snapping together. ;-)
  22. It really is, too. When I saw this thread moved back up I thought it was time for part 2. :-) Then disappointment. *sad*
  23. Speaking of general forum etiquette, it's also important to remember that drama rules. Yes, when in doubt, go for drama. Someone says something you don't like? Threaten to leave! But don't do it right there, oh no, that's not going to be visible enough. Start a new thread! I'VE HAD ENOUGH, I'M LEAVING, YOU ALL STINK >:-( >:-( >:-( DON'T TRY TO STOP ME! please please please beg me to stay! And when they do beg you to stay, leave anyway. For 3 days. Then make a triumphant return thread: I DIDN'T WANT TO COME BACK, BUT YOU ALL LOVE ME SO MUCH *wub* *wub* *wub* I GUESS I'M HERE AGAIN. Seriously kids, don't try this at home. I promise, if you do I'll heckle the hello kitty out of you coming and going.
  24. I can't even argue the point. :'-( Maybe it's why we fit in so well here, huh? X-D
  25. For fans of Retro-futurism, I'd suggest playing Beneath a Steel Sky, a previously commercial game that the developer has released into the public domain. It's incredibly good, both in the genre and as a straightforward graphic adventure with quirky jokes and situations. The game and ScummVM interpreter necessary to run it are available here. A few of the jokes are slightly adult in nature, but it's tame compared to most of what is out there and despite reviews to the contrary, I like it's slightly comical tone which I think provides a contrast to the deadly serious nature of the situation, similar to the classics of the 80's like Space Quest. This commercial has been brought to you by the letter B for babble *wacko*
