This truck was inspired by @AllanSmith's traffic control trailer. I really wanted this flashing arrow for the roadworks in my city, so I decided to recreate it. However I preferred to have it on a truck instead on a trailer. And this is the result. The solution is based on the good old 9V battery box. The truck is built around it. The lights are powered by a 9V - PF converter cable cut to half and soldered to the custom PCB. The cable can be attached at any orientation to the battery box, which means both polarities are accepted by the electronics. Changing the polarity is changing the arrow direction. The blinking frequency is about 1.5 sec. See more in the Flickr album. Some more pictures And a short video

Speed Champions building challenge entry topic

I just received my prize E. It seems, that the package traveled to Australia, arrived in bad condition, has been rewrapped by Australia Post at Sydney, and posted back to Hungary. My figures traveled around the world! I'm so jealous! They are in good condition. I hope they all arrived, and non of them decided to stay in Australia. I especially love the extra figures for day 24 winning. It would by a pity to lost any of them. Well, we are a little bit after XMas, but just before my birthday. What a pleasant surprise! Thanks CopMike

Really missing an extra middle level, but otherwise I like it pretty much.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
kodlovag replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I still dislike the car. But these official images about the building shows some interesting details. With its half corner / end-of-the-row design could fit fine at the edge of my town. For me, this is definitely not a downtown building. I like it better now. If I buy it, I will definitely not build the car. -

Jims Diner, Jims Gym, Radio Studio... Many possible variations. And why the Detective Office is Detective Office? Could be Pool Pub, Hairdressing Saloon, and so on... I'm pretty much sure, the name will be two words long. And they already managed to find a good name. Just we don't know yet. -
I collected all of my green bricks to make this ideal Christmas tree-like thing. With blue boxed gifts, what else?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
kodlovag replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
The new modular (I consider it's real) is not bad at all, but I can't imagine how can it fit to my city. The style is so different, than the previous modulars. And I especially dislike the car. So I will learn the building technics, but most probably won't buy the set. -
Generic Contest Discussion
kodlovag replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How many people have Mindstorms? I mean it's expensive. The entry level would be too high. I would prefer a contest, which does not allow power functions. Just old fashioned manual technic functionalities. -
Well, I had to use, what I have. And I have only these tires, nothing else, especially nothing larger. Perhaps, I should have added the hamster wheel idea for the front tires to make the car more wacky. Unfortunately the hamsters were too fat, and could not stand on the edge of the rim, so I dropped the idea. Probably that was a mistake. Anyway, I'm happy with my 5th place, and congratulation to the winners.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
kodlovag replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
No way that this building has 3500 pcs. It's just too small. Max 2500 pcs. Or it's incredibly detailed inside. Otherwise I like the idea. Approx a year ago I already started to design a car repair shop / fuel station, quite similar concept to this one, but from an older era. Something to fit to the DO. But I abandoned it. And it's really missing a motorcycle or a scooter... -

[TC12] The Unrollable
kodlovag replied to kodlovag's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, I tried, but video making is not my world. (Yet...) So I submitted The Unrollable to the entry topic, with the original video. A big thanks to everybody, who helped me with ideas and comments during the build. Now, Start your engines! Ready... -
10. The Unrollable The Unrollable is a superfast race car, designed to surely finish the race. It's full manual, no power functions. Normal functions: Rear wheel drive with differential 2-cylinder boxer engine Rear suspension HoG steering, with working steering wheel Wacky function: ROLLOVER ability The car can be overrolled during a bloody race, and it is still a fully functional car! The rolled car looks differently, and the poor opponent does not even realize that the vengeance is coming. Rollcage to protect the driver During rollover, the rollcage flips to the other side of the car, while the seat rotates, to keep the driver's head always up. Custom sticker with rollover ambigram, which can be read upside down too Literally, The Unrollable is a two-sided car Video

Wow, your video skills are definitely much better, than mine. I spent 3 hours on my video starting from installing the editor until linked in to the forum. Not too much. I made my video just because it's mandatory. And of course, thank you for the video, I'm happy to keep it . I wanted to submit The Unrollable to the entry topic today. Now I see I should improve my video, but I just don't have time until Monday, I planned other things. I gonna see... By the way, which video editor do you use? -

Sticker is printed! White text on black base. Not an original Lego quality sticker, resolution should be a bit better, but not bad at all. Text is 7 mm high and approx 30 long (1 x 4 studs), so it will nicely fit on the side panel. -

No, I'm working for a display developer company. Optics, electronics, mechanics, software solutions. I'm working on optics, as a development engineer. Display and graphics seems closely related, but not in our case. I remembered a book, probably Angels and demons by Dan Brown, where I saw interesting texts, which could be read upside down too. I searched the internet, and first I learned that it is called ambigram, then I learned how to create one. Next I have to find a good word, which results in a nice looking, easily readable ambigram. I checked software solutions on the internet, and tried different words related to my build. Rollover worked best, Wacky wheels was the second option, but I didn't like the font types, because it was hard to read them. So I designed my own ambigram, and used the word rollover, because it was way easier to realize it, than the other. As I have no ambigram software, I used MS paint, and edited some sample fonts pixel by pixel. My favorite detail is the ll -> V transition, which is totally my own design, and is not based on sample fonts. -

Good idea! What about this one? My design. It could be applied on the side black panel next to the front wheel. If I'm lucky, I can print it tomorrow at the company. I hope there is black labeling cartridge in stock. Rollover_06B by Zsolt Nagy, on Flickr -

What do you mean reversing the wheel direction? There is no PF in this car. I'm pushing it forward. After rollover I'm still pushing it forward. The engine will rotate in the opposite direction, but who cares? The same is true for the cabin steering wheel: works correctly only at one state of the car, and reverse way after rollover. But the other steering point over the front wheel works correctly on both state of the car. I already proved it to myself, that there is no such fixed mechanism, which allows correctly working cabin steering in both state of the car, because of symmetry reasons. Maybe it could be done with gears, which moving with gravity. Like in a transmission, which could be set to reverse. Only difference would be, that gravity set the driving ring, instead of a manual switching arm. But there is simply no space for such a mechanism in this compact car. Compact is relative to other supercars, it's only ~660 parts, and most of the usable space is occupied by the flipping cabin. So all functionalities were simplified as much as possible, while keeping the fun and the playability.
