  1. I am so over budget this month that my budget has stopped speaking to me.
  2. Nice use of the droid torsos to mount the legs.
  3. I prefer "LEGO's" because it makes everyone angry, whether they are in the "LEGO Bricks" or "LEGOs" camp.
  4. Nice use of the minifig legs in the arms. The whole thing looks appropriately chitinous and Zergy.
  5. A Samus constraction figure that could fold up into a maru mari would be amazing. Probably can't happen due to K'nex having an existing license relationship with Nintendo, though.
  6. Even if S@H is sold out, my local TRU still has armloads of Series 8 Mixels in stock. Brick and mortar may be the way to go.
  7. Don't most of the "official" Lego modulars lay down a layer of plates on top of the baseplate rather than putting bricks directly on it? I imagine that helps prevent warping.
  8. Got some used Space Police sets in an eBay auction: 5973 Hyperspeed Pursuit and three small sets (Freeze Ray Frenzy, Raid VPR, and Squidman Escape). I was the only bidder so I got it at the listing price. :-)
  9. One technique I sometimes use to get started is to take an unusual piece from my collection and try to think of all the possible uses for it, obvious and otherwise. I'll build a couple of small assemblies with it and see if anything seems worth developing further. There are a lot of dead ends, but it's fun to fiddle around. If you're having trouble coming up with uses, you can also look up the part on BrickLink and see all the various ways it was used in official sets.
  10. I'm looking for some examples of robot/mech hands that don't use Exo-Force robot arms for fingers. This seems to have become the standard technique for mechs of a certain size, and while it's effective it's kind of overused. Are there some good examples of mechs (in official sets or MOCs) with more interesting techniques of building hands?
  11. Space has always been one of my favorite Lego themes, and I've been a moderate Star Wars fan since I was very small, but I find that I have been avoiding Star Wars Lego sets because I think of most of the vehicles as being combinations of gray, tan, and white. I know that this is accurate to the source material but I would prefer to get more pieces in different colors than add to my giant pile of grayscale and earth tone bricks. What are some good sets that buck that trend?
  12. I like how Classic Space Guy seems totally underwhelmed to be stuck on unicycle duty again.
  13. I just started buying Lego sets again after a long dark age, so Galaxy Squad was a couple of years before I started paying attention to Lego. I have some questions about it: How successful was Galaxy Squad at the time it came out? It seems well-regarded by AFOLs now, but did it sell well? Was it planned as a single-year release, or did it not perform well enough in the market to be continued as a line? In your opinion, what does the performance of Galaxy Squad say about the viability of non-licenced space themes in the future?
  14. I am procrastinating on a giant pile of work stuff by cleaning my office meticulously. I guess this is kind of lousy procrastination in that I'm actually accomplishing a task, but at least it's not the task I'm supposed to be doing right now?
  15. OMG, I love this! The coffee-cup kiosk takes it over the top. Lively minifig posing too.
  16. Wasn't that a Radiohead song? Really the only thing missing here is Police Police. Who watches the watchmen?
  17. Took advantage of a couple of big Amazon discounts and picked up 70145 - Maula's Ice Mammoth Stomper (52% off!) 70734 - Master Wu Dragon (30% off)
  18. I really like how you've taken the 2d patterns on the lamp and made them into 3d reliefs in the Lego version. The tassels are also very convincing for such a simple construction!
  19. Madison Heavy Space Industries is pleased to announce the latest in our line of fine Recreational Space Vehicles: The Muskellunge! Landing gear deployed: Rear hatch, sealed: Rear hatch, open: Cabin interior: Cabin interior, reverse angle: Underside, landing gear deployed: Underside, landing gear retracted: Cockpit detail: This is my first minifig-scale spacecraft since coming out of my dark age and took me entirely too long to build. The half-cylinder cabin windows mounted at an angle were a pain to get right and made building out the cabin interior annoying but once I got it working I wasn't about to change it. Let me know what you think.
  20. These are great! The removable seat is a fine compromise to make them rideable. The handcuff handlebars on the chopper are a nice bit of irony considering the reputation of "outlaw bikers" who ride them. :) Love, justice, freedom, an edible pastrami sandwich…
  21. The preferred method of including pictures is to embed them from a dedicated photo hosting site. There is a FAQ for doing this with Flickr here, and you can easily adapt the second method for embedding images from Brickshelf, etc.
  22. The Stealth Raider looks like it takes a ton of design cues from Clay's Power Blade - sort of like the the Power Blade mashed up with the Sonic Raider.
