  1. I have a couple of Ninjago sets on order and I was wondering if the show is enjoyable for (not excessively mature) adults. I ask as someone who happily watched the entire run of Avatar: The Last Airbender in my late 30s. Does the show work on multiple levels or is it targeted squarely at the elementary school set?
  2. Is there a reliable way to find out who designed a particular Lego set? It would be great to be able to find sets by the same designers as other sets that I like.
  3. My local Toys 'R Us got series 8 in and I picked up all of the Pyrratz. They're all clever builds and have some of the most unusual part use I've seen so far in Mixels. Ultimately though, the best part is the Nixel with the eye patch.
  4. Seller claims that this lot is "100% real Lego". If they're telling the truth, what the heck is the large "rock monster" figure in the upper right of this image?
  5. Four boxed Exo-Force sets off of Craigslist: 7707 - Striking Venom 8103 - Sky Guardian 8111 - River Dragon 7721 - Combat Crawler X2
  6. I live in a large metropolitan area and the thrift stores are usually picked clean. Goodwill knows that fans will pay top dollar for Lego and usually sells them in their own auction site (where they get snapped up instantly). I've had much better luck with Craigslist and other classified ad sources.
  7. I've had decent luck finding bulk lots on Craigslist and OfferUp. You have to be patient, though, and examine the listings carefully. Many bulk listings are grossly overpriced (the sellers add up the amount they spent on the sets in the lot and maybe knock off a paltry discount). Others have a lot of off-brand blocks (or random action figures etc.) mixed in with the Lego. If you're persistent though, you'll occasionally come across a lot that's both in decent condition and comes in at about five bucks a pound. If the listing images contain distinctive pieces from known sets or pieces in rare colors, even better. If the listing mentions that it contains minifigs, better still. If I have enough money in my monthly budget left to buy, I'll jump on these immediately. I prefer lots around 10 pounds of bricks - big enough to contain a few whole sets but not so big as to be really expensive or a lot of hassle to sort through.
  8. Now I'm hungry. How many whips did it take to make that tree?!
  9. This one is simultaneously best and worst: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/140735 Supported.
  10. Oh man, the existence of the Marvel license gives me the faintest hope that some day there will be a Squirrel Girl set (or even just a minifigure) but I have a feeling that is going to remain a faint hope...
  11. Phase one of my June purchase plan: rob a bank...
  12. Today I bought a box of random Lego off OfferUp. When I got it home, it was mostly MegaBloks. After I sorted through it and picked out all of the actual Lego, it turned out to contain a 99% complete set of 76007: Iron Man - Malibu Mansion Attack, sans minifigs. I probably overpaid for the lot but at least I got to do some Lego archaeology and build something. Not bad for the worst luck I've had buying random lots. And I have some MegaBloks to give to Goodwill.
  13. AFIAK, there's no official Lego store in Ireland. Your Google-fu may be getting messed up because one of the California Lego stores is in the Dublin/Pleasanton area near Oakland.
  14. Also the molds are probably made from casts, which aren't used in production of parts and last a long time. I expect that Lego still has the casts for parts they no longer have working molds for.
  15. I got one of these windscreens in a lot and I was annoyed to see that Lego never used it for a sealed cockpit in an official set, so I set myself the challenge of doing it. I came up with this cockpit design: Now I just need to come up with a ship to go with it. I tried building a mobile science lab for the back end but it ended up looking like a moving van…
  16. What are the large quarter-saucer plates with the 4x4 indentation in this pic? Never mind, it appears to be the decorated 14x14 panels from http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?S=6979-1#T=S&O={}
  17. Nice shapes, good use of the car hood panels. What part did you use for the "shoulders" of the first one? I've never seen a hollow cone in that shape.
  18. Great job capturing the cartoon aesthetic in Lego!
  19. Thanks. You folks are so fast!
  20. Yes, I see the difference, I'm just trying to figure out why the difference exists.
  21. Actually, these are http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=2476b#T=C. What's the point of the "locking fingers" on the underside? I can't find any way of connecting these where they seem to make any difference.
  22. Here's mine: Sometimes I think I like sorting Lego more than building with them. What's yours?
  23. More mystery pieces from a large lot: (Oh, ignore the black ones, they appear to be http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?id=124#T=C)
  24. Looks like US Amazon has the Stomper set for 45% off (with free Prime shipping) right now. Might have to pick that up.
  25. Super nice repurposing of the Alien Buggoid minifigs!
