@MstrOfPppts I see what you mean and I guess I would change the area between the main castle and the owlery if I'd build this again (and maybe I will modify it) but I used every last one of my available grey slopes so I didn't really have any other option here. Thanks everyone for your kind words, they are very much appreciated! :)

Thanks man! I can't seem to find a way to upload the file with the new version of Eurobricks.. I uploaded it to the German forum "Imperium der Steine" too though.. Here's the link: http://www.imperiumdersteine.de/index.php?/topic/44611-black-leaders-t-70-x-wing/?p=770647 If that doesn't work either send me your email address via PM and I'll send it you that way.. That depends on what you mean by "work". The wings do fold obviously but I am using a Psiaki-inspired mechanism that connects two of the wings and you therefore only have to open the wings on one side and all four will open but there is no knob or gear to turn that snaps them open like in the playsets.

Thank you very much! I still haven't seen the Harry Potter exhibition but that's definitely on my to-do-list! There are a few slightly larger and even more detailed Hogwarts models out there that I really like but I didn't think a larger scale would fit with the Architecture style very well. If you want to please feel free to take inspiration from my model wherever you like! :)

Wow, the lighting and composition here is just fantastic! Even though the idea for the "lights out" scene isn't original it fits really well with the Gotham/Batman world. I know it's a real pain to animate Lego figures in Stop-Motion but your film has a really nice flow to it. What's the fps you are working with? I'm looking forward to seeing that film. The technical aspect of it will definitly be great if you keep up this high standard.

Hi everyone! There's a contest going on over at the German forum Imperium der Steine challenging us to build our own Architecture style models. There are three categories, the first two being Skylines and Actual Buildings but for the third one we are to build fictional skylines or buildings! As I am a big Harry Potter fan Hogwarts was the first thing I could think of. Lego Architecture: Hogwarts Castle by Kit Bricksto, on Flickr I am really happy with how it turned out but I'd love to hear your opinions and I am of course open to criticism too!

I really appreciate the amount of detail you are putting into this model and I think it looks great so far! The hexagonal shape in the back is a nice touch but I think the orientation of the cheese slopes doesn't fit with the flow of the ship that well. Maybe you could orient them like those on the top and attach them to the side panels? That`s just nitpicking though and it still looks great even if you don't change that! Keep up the great work, looking forward to further updates!

You're right.. I guess I should do my research more thoroughly.. :D

I really like the style you chose here, relatively simple in its techniques but complex enough to capture all the essential details. The yellow wires do stand out a bit but as the copper ones are very expensive and the yellow does fit with the colour scheme of the Y-Wing I think you can get away with them. I think I personally would have chosen light grey but I can understand why that would be too boring for most people. Keep building cool stuff! ;)

Thanks BrickDoctor. You wrote everything I wanted to say.. :D About the new Battlefront. From what I've seen on YouTube they put a lot of effort into making it look as close to the films as they could within their practical and financial limits. Especially the Echo Base set is represented excellently and hachiroku is not totally wrong about the Falcon seeming small. However, in the game you can still walk underneath it (which a minifigures definitely cannot do with the system scale Falcon, just look at the boarding ramp) and then there is the issue of the Episode V Falcon being smaller than the one from A New Hope. For practical reasons they cheated on the size of the Falcon film set, making it as small as possible while still looking believable. If you look closely you will notice that the cockpit is a bit out of proportion on the live action set. Similar issues can be spotted with the Imperial Shuttle set but that's a whole other story. In that case though the film makers later said that the studio scale models are more accurate representations than the full scale mock ups, as no compromises were necessary at the smaller scale. The canon length of the Falcon is 34.75 m though and that translates into about 110 studs. As the play sets are only around 50 studs long I think that makes the case very clear.

[MOC] UCS CR-90 Corellian Corvette – Blockade Runner (Tantive IV)
Kit Bricksto replied to mortesv's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Very impressive! I really appreciate the attention to detail your models have come to be known for. Most people make compromises to incorporate minifigures or playfeatures (yeah, I'm one of them ) but your approach seems to be more of a modelmakers, which I think is a refreshingly different take on Lego-building. I also like the unusual scale this results in. I hadn't realized that even the UCS set was so far off in its proportions. I still think that the Lego Tantive IV sets are a lot better than TLG's take on other ships but the inaccuracies are pretty obvious now that I look at your model.- 129 replies

Well, minifigure scale isn't that easy to define as Rob0 already pointed out their proportions are not accurate to the human body. However, if you go with the usual "3 studs = 1 metre" and are very strikt with your measurements then almost none of the sets are minifigure scale. Except for the UCS Falcon, Slave I and Imperial Shuttle the ones closest to minifig-scale are usually the medium sized sets like the X-Wings or Y-Wings. They are always off by a couple of studs but they're meant as toys after all. The bigger ships like the Falcon playsets and Republic Frigate, etc. are obviously way out of Scale. They are usually referred to as being "play-scale". While the big ships are usually scaled down, the smaller ones (Rey's Speeder, Speederbikes, Snowspeeder, etc.) are often larger than they should be in order to be sturdy and playable while still fitting minifigures. As Irish437 mentioned the Snowspeeder, lets take that one as an example. The Snowspeeders in Empire Strikes Back are slightly longer than five metres which equals a bit more than 15 studs (5m * 3 = 15 studs) in minifig scale. The most recent playset is 21 studs long which isn't a terrible difference but still it's notable.

I really like your take on the Batcave. The design is simple and practical which I think fits Batman's lair very well.. I especially like the little details like Harley in the cell or the trophy shelf (did he behead the Scarecrow though? :P) and most of all the Robin Costume and crowbar as a nice nod the "A Death in the Family" comic. I just feel that the rock-work could use a bit more work. The overhangs could be a bit more connected and a bit less jagged. But that's only a detail. The rest of the Batcave is really cool. :) Keep building great stuff! ;)

Blimey, there are quite a few Falcons popping up all over the internet in recent times. I'll really have to get a move on with mine! I really like that you paid attention to interior detail as well as exterior. Obviously there are still a few improvements you can make like adding some more colour/ clear shapes to the round exhausts and some other details and the shape of the mandibles is still a bit too close to the playset IMO. Also the cockpit seems a bit small at this scale. But I'm really just nit-picking there! Overall your model is really well made and definitly a great compromise between the playset and rebricking the UCS for a rediculous amount of money. :) Keep up the great work! :) P.S. Those are some nicely modified TIEs there, too!

[MOC] Rogue One - Brickbuilt characters who rebel
Kit Bricksto replied to Miro78's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Very recognizable and the pose seems to fit the character very well. It looks more like a sculpture than an action figure and I must say that I really like that! :) -
Your first MOC? Wow, that's very impressive! I really like that it still has the style of the original set but your own style is visible, too. :) While I am personally not really a fan of using custom painted figures for MOCs I don't think they're a bad thing and yours are certainly very nicely made. It sure came in handy having two Maz Kanata figures here ;) I think it's really important to never forget that there are no rules to building Lego. Never let anyone tell you that something is impossible, you can always try. Even if you fail you will have learnt something. The only thing that bugs me a bit is that the interior seems a bit cluttered. Yes, Maz's Castle is very dark and full of stuff and people but it often helps a model to give it some clear structural elements and clean surfaces. It might just be the photos that make it harder to see what the overall layout is. Still, your model is definitly a great start and you can always keep modifying it if you like. The most important thing after all is having fun!

The link to the file is in the very last post before yours..! @ TheNerdyOne_: I really like your take on the ship and thanks for sharing the file with the public! The interior still could use some more detail if you ask me. Maybe you could try adding some walls with doors to structure the whole interior a bit more clearly. :)

I agree, sometimes it's just nicer to have a model that is swooshable and doesn't break when you pick it up. And it can be quite challenging to fit as much as possible into a smaller scale. You're very welcome, I do hope it works out. :) No, it is not necessary for the set to be a great playset but if it's possible I'd still go with it. I am currently building a larger scale Falcon (about 3/4 of the UCS) and the cockpit corridor and attaching the cockpit while keeping that doorway is extremely difficult. I really want to make it work due to the accuracy of the rest of the model so far. But I can tell you, especially with the Millennium Falcon where the corridor isn't even straight, that doorway and it's stability are a real pain.. Still, I think on your model it should be fairly easy to incorporate a doorway since you don't have to worry about connecting the cockpit windshield to the back part at all and the area behind the cockpit is slightly wider than on the Falcon, leaving you more room for supports.

A-Wing Starfighter (Rise of the Empire-Era)

A-Wing Starfighter (Rise of the Empire-Era)
Kit Bricksto replied to Kit Bricksto's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thank you! I find it really creepy how many cool A-Wing models similar to mine I found out about after posting this here. I must have done something wrong when researching for this build as I didn't know your version until now.. :D However I did know your B-Wing which is an excellent build! I think I'll try and build a ROTJ A-Wing soon, too. The colours are just so nice.. :) -
I haven't seen more than the first episode of Freemakers but just looking at the model you used as reference and your build, I think this is really well built. I like the playset scale you chose for this and the interior is really nice too. :) As for the connection of the cockpit to the back I think you might be able to use some arches to keep structural integrity and create a doorway. I'm looking forward too seeing the finished real life model (I guess there really is no proper name for it :D). I think builds just always look better in real bricks.

What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars sets?
Kit Bricksto replied to Loco de Lego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Such a simple question, so hard to answer it.. :D I think my favorite set is got to be 7133 Bounty Hunter Pursuit from 2002. It's a pretty accurate representation of the speeders included, very playable and a great display set too. My least favorite set is probably the 75147 Star Scavenger. Yes, the minifigs are pretty cool but that's literally the only good thing about the set. -
A-Wing Starfighter (Rise of the Empire-Era)
Kit Bricksto replied to Kit Bricksto's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Haha, thanks! People on EB seem to really like the name. :D I must admit that I hadn't seen your A-Wing up until now. It's a nice build but I think the colours are a bit messy if you know what I mean. Building a Lego model with more than two colours can easily look like you didn't have the parts in the right colour. That's why a very clear structure for the coloring is often useful. There really isn't that much too them. They're just two black bars (one 4L and one 5-6L connected with that rubber connector and mostly hidden under some cones and technic pins. They are connected to the ship with that megaphone handle and a white 1x1 with a clip on the side. Cheers! Glad you like it and of course feel free to borrow as much as you like. I did obviously take a lot of your design. -

Sorry for two comments so shortly after each other but I built my own A-Wing based very heavily on your original design and I thought you might like to see it! I posted it on Eurobricks right HERE
