LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kit Bricksto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Has anyone noticed the white clips on the back of Old Ben's hut? Looks to me like they might be planning for some sort of modular extention. Although I can't really imagine Ben's hut to be a profitable modular set.. Did I miss anything? Are the clips maybe just lightsaber holders or something like that? I don't think the modular-option is very plausible but I don't see any other real use for the clips either.. -
[MOC] [INSTRUCTIONS] UCS Tantive IV - CR-90 Corvette
Kit Bricksto replied to Kit Bricksto's topic in LEGO Star Wars
@ClassicLook That sticker looks great. Where did you print it? @Seasider - I have never tried to lift the model in one piece since the engine block is so heavy that I never expected it to be possible. I have transported it around the house in two parts quite easily though. Just slide the engine block out of the main ship and then carefully turn in so that it stands on the back ends of the thrusters. That way the weight is distributed nice and evenly. The best spots to pick up the engine block are around it's core but where to hold it depends on how big your hands are, I guess. I think you should get a good feeling for the strong spots while building it though. :) - I never even thought about putting the corridor into the main section but there is quite a lot of room in there. I think you should be able to fit in the scene quite easily! I'd love to see your take on that. - Looks like the crew consists of Rebel Soldiers in Rogue One: But the ROTS screenshot shows different outfits. That was before the era of the rebelion though, so I guess it depends on which version you want to go for. Also wasn't the ship in ROTS actually a CR70 not the CR90 Tantive IV? I'll have to watch that film again.. -
[MOC] [INSTRUCTIONS] UCS Tantive IV - CR-90 Corvette

Yes! I completly forgot that I actually finished the sticker ages ago..! When printed at 96 x 48 mm it should fit the 6 x 12 tile, might need some minor trimming though to account for the slightly rounded edges of the Lego tile. Tantive IV UCS Plaque by Kit Bricksto, on Flickr @Monkfiche I like your greebling additions. Just make sure not to make the individual engines too heavy or they might not hold up anymore without additional structural work inside the core of the engine block. -
Could be solved with one of THESE Or if that is too blocky and tall a custom sticker or even some paint on the head's stud would probably do the job too. I'd prefer a purist solution though and in my opinion leaving it the way it was is better than either option.

[MOC] [INSTRUCTIONS] UCS Tantive IV - CR-90 Corvette

@viptouge Wow, that is some collection you have there! Really like how you are displaying it, too. For me the comparison with those other models just made me realize how huge those other vehicles are. Looks like the UCS Falcon is only barely shorter than my Tantive.. wow.. @Monkfiche Not quite sure if I am thinking of the right parts but I remember the ones from the 2010? Quidditch set to be quite stiff. In fact the 1x1 bricks with two studs that they were stuck in to create the golden hoops had cracks in them. I guess it's worth a try though. Maybe just build one test-engine with parts you already have on hand to try it out? -

@Monkfiche I really like your version of the cockpit window!! And while I agree that the angle of the cone looks more accurate the steps are kind of more obvious like this.. might look different in real life though. Either way, looking forward to seeing your modified version built! -

@viptouge Wow, feels really weird to see "my model" in someone elses house! :D You were incredibly quick with buying the parts and building the whole thing! @ClassicLook I would definitely like to see that too! I don't own any UCS sets myself but I'd be very interested in seeing how it compares to the Star Destroyer for instance.. ;) -
@ScottishDave Wow, are you sure this is in the right thread? I think you really are selling yourself short with calling this a MOD! Looks like a full MOC to me, and a great one at that! Sure, maybe it could use a few more tiles but you really did a great job on the proportions and hull detail/greebling. Will you be posting updates for the interior? Looks like you are still working on that? I also really like that the history of your model is still visible. Parts of the hull remind me of the original UCS set, in a good way of course! ;)

I like it! The scale you chose seems to be perfect for capturing enough detail to make the ship more than just recognizable. Do build a Venator do go with it. This size would really be perfect for a series of collectable flagships without taking up too much space and they are also fairly cheap to build. I've always wanted to build a Midi-Scale Venator and Imperial Star Destroyer and if I get around to doing so some day I would love to build something based on your design here to accompany them on a shelf. :) EDIT: Just counted the studs on your picture, this model is quite a bit longer than I had estimated before that.. :D Still a very decent scale, explains how you were able to fit in so much detail though! :D
-
I think the arrangement of the figures in the cockpit completly works. Just don't make the console asymetrical though, please. :D That way the fact that they are staggered would become more obvious. The crew quarters room feels very empty right now and I think that might be because it is so big. Have you tried going for a more accurate three-room-arrangement for the back half? I think that should be possible and would make the rooms feel less empty. Then you might also be able to put the battery pack in the smaller side-hold that never really gets much attention anyway and have a nice cable-free engine room. Keep us posted on your progress - both on the exterior and interior. ;)
-
Looking good! The greebling on the sides doesn't look as bad anymore now that there is more of a ship around it. Probably still a good idea to change some stuff out there. Also while the smooth surface looks good in the render I think the tile gaps will be a bit more visible in reality, which means that the brick wall pattern you have them in might be a lot more obvious and I think it might feel very out of place for a starship. Maybe using some larger tiles would make for a more convincing texture even if that means adding a few more studs to the surface. I might be overly worrying here though, just something to consider though maybe. :) Keep up the great work and keep posting updates! ;)

I saw this right when you posted it and was meaning to post a comment ever since.. :D I really like your take on the RZ-2, it really is everything the official set for EP9 should have been. The shaping is perfect, all the important details are there and the colour scheme looks soo much better than the one they chose for the set (but that's really just my opinion). Funnily enough your model really reminds me of my own (unpublished) version of this ship. I built it in December of last year mostly based on my RZ-1 with some changes to the proportions and of course the colours. Your version looks so much more refined and simply better than mine though..! I might have to steal some of your techniques and update mine. It really feels like a first draft of a model now that I compare it to yours.. :D And now that I think of it, I think I pretty much built it in one day, so I guess it really is a first draft. :D Best of luck with selling the instructions, maybe you can fund the next great Starfighter model with the sales? ;) Anything planned yet? Really like your Delta-7A too btw! I had started building a new version of mine but I might just steal some ideas from you here too.. :P
-
I like the update! The pipes are not acutally that wrong where you put them. If you look closely in ANH you can see that the other side of the hold has very similar pipes, too. Maybe you could put more tiles underneath it though instead of the last row of grill pieces. There is a slightly raised part of the floor right where the pipes are in the Falcon so that would be quite an accurate representation. :) The UCS bench also works very well here. And I agree about the holochess part. I think it's probably my favorite SW-specific printed part of at least the last ten years.. If you like it you are welcome to use my corridor design (have a look at my Playscale Correlian Senate Ship). If I counted the plates correctly it should just about fit underneath your structural parts without anything being cut off. :)

[MOC] [INSTRUCTIONS] UCS Tantive IV - CR-90 Corvette
Kit Bricksto replied to Kit Bricksto's topic in LEGO Star Wars
@ClassicLook Yes they are actually all neccessary. Each engine requires 24 (well, two only need 20 because of the red stripes) so that already makes 256 and almost all the others are needed for the "neck" and the cockpit with another 30 or so going into the various turrets. Those 442 should work with any type though so you can mix those. For the 6 jumpers of the newest style it is actually important to have the right type though because they attach to the middle of their underside, which isn't possible with the old ones, so make sure to get six of those. I just quickly went through the LDD file to be sure just now and the engines, neck, gun turrets and cockpit use 432 jumpers (+ the 6 new ones) and there's bound to be 10 more in different places all over the model that I didn't find just now. So I'm sorry but I'm afraid that number is no mistake in the parts list.. I didn't actually realize how many jumpers went into this until now myself! -
@stifos Inthert acutally managed to squeeze in four figures. Han and Chewie are held in place by their yokes but the back two figures just seem to sit on tiles. Still, if the model isn't meant for heavy play I think they should be alright, it is all a rather tight fit after all. His model is next to yours probably my favorite system-scale Falcon and definitely worth checking out for everyone who doesn't know it already. The amount of detail at this scale is insane.
-
@LEGODrongo01 Wow, that was quick! Really like where this is going. The seating really fits in nicely and I think keeping the console that way should be absolutely fine. Interesting idea to change the position of the pipes, too. Makes it a lot easier to keep the back accessible on that side. I agree with your feeling about the floor. I think having the studs exposed where Han sits is fine but maybe you could try and either put the grill pieces everywhere on the right or just where the maintenance hatches are and leave the rest of the studs exposed. @Retro Thanks for the breakdown picture and the link to the Flail Falcon, I didn't actually know that one! I once asked Marshal Banana if he could explain or show us how he got the figures in side by side but he never responded. My current solution has brick built seatbacks that I quite like but they just sit on the floor. As long as there are figures in the cockpit you can't see that though, so I'll probably keep it that way for now. I think Marshal might actually have built his in a similar fashion.
-
Thanks for the additional pictures, looks like the Holochess area should fit nicely into that recess in the front and then really all you've got to do is put down some grill pieces and tiles, add the large pipes next to Han's console and cover up the multicoloured walls. @Retro The Main Hold is the room with the Holochess table. There is a great book called "Millennium Falcon: Owner's Workshop Manual" that includes blueprints and floorplans for different versions of the YT-1300 Freighter and of course the Falcon itself. I use that book as reference for everything concerning the Falcon. Do I see both Chewbacca and Han sitting on proper seats in your model's cockpit there? Have you got any detailed shots of how that fits together? I've been trying to get that to work for years now without any success..
-
I think I have, yes. I always enjoy checking in on projects that have been going on for years and seeing updates still coming. The interior looks much more spacious than I was expecting. I'd imagine that you could fit in quite a decent (maybe even close to full) interior here. Maybe you could use the little cargo room on the starboard side as a battery space and then you should still have plenty of room in the back for the engine room and sleeping quarters. Are you sure you can't squeeze the main hold in the front? It looks like you should be able to just about squeeze it in there to me. But maybe I am missing something? You won't ever see the version of my Falcon you know completed. ;) I completly started over a few weeks ago and the old version is now a scrapyard for the new one. I might post a picture of the destroyed model in a few days.. should be interesting to see peoples reactions to that.. ^^
-
Wow, how come I never replied to this topic?! This project has certainly come a long way from being "just" a modified playset. You've used quite a few UCS-techniques to great effect here that make a huge difference to the fragile and poorly detailed look of the playsets. I just counted the studs across the width of the docking ring part in the middle of the ship and your model seems to be almost to the same scale as my current Falcon WIP (yes, I am working on a Falcon again) which to me seems to be the perfect scale to build a Falcon at. It's large enough to get a decent amount of detail and interior in without being as gigantic as the UCS models, so that it still fits on most tables. :D I'd love to see some more interior detail in that front half, the pictures on your Flickr suggest that there is enough room to at least get the main hold in there? If I understood you correctly the back half is mostly used for the lighting, power source, etc.? Anyway, this is a really cool project, I hope you keep working on it and keep enjoying to change and improve things because isn't that what the "real" Falcon is, too - a constant work in progress! At least that is how from now on I will justify working on my version for 5 years now... :D @mcphatty I really quite like that console design! Might have to steal the idea for those levers in the middle if I may? And is there anywhere we can see more of your modded Falcon? Always enjoy seeing what people have come up with to improve those sets. :)
-
I must admit that I did not see any of those details at all! To me this was just a ridiculously large fleet of Imperial Star Destroyers stuck in the wrong era.. I will admit that the red stripes along the edges do look kind of cool but I am not a fan of just slapping a Superlaser underneath and calling it a new design.. That all being said, this does not diminish your build in the slightest. So far your model is looking really good! The greebling on the sides might be a bit monotonous still but I assume that you are planning on mixing that up a bit anyway. And at this point greebling really isn't of much significance. The internal structure looks sensible and the panels seem to line up fine so far. Keep on working on this and keep us posted! Really interested in seeing this project continue!
-
Wow that's a large hunk of grey plastic.. ;) but seriously, I really like the amount of surface detail balanced out by the SNOT-ed hull plates, the inclusion of that iconic little window (are those tiny representations of Luke and Leia in there?) and those sensor arrays in the front look fantastic too! I find it really interesting how different the colour scheme is compared to mortesv's model. I don't know what references he used but his model seems so much more colourful. Are there actually different versions of the ship in the films? The Nebulon B is one of those ships I really know nothing about.

[MOC] The Burrow - the house of the Weasleys
Kit Bricksto replied to thire5's topic in LEGO Licensed
@thire5 Ohh.. I completly missed that! That's a cool detail! I actually meant vertical angles but this slightly wonky bit makes for a nice twist in the beams supporting the "tower" now that I see it! -

I really like how well this works even though there are none of the characteristic off angles of the Burrow. The patchy textures, slightly weird windows and terrace-placements are more than enough to sell the feeling of the Weasley home. Really well done! Now the only thing it's missing is an interior.. :P -
Haha that's not what I meant, the title is perfectly fine. I just meant that I wasn't looking forward to another mediocre alternative build but you absolutely defied my expectations there. :D

I must say that I didn't click on this with much enthusiasm. Most alternative builds are rather forced and you can clearly see where parts were missing. This model really took me by surprise though. It looks really solid and all the parts look 'purposefull'. Sure, there are areas you might have done differently if you had all the parts you needed but the overall aesthetic is very cohesive and the colour scheme is quite cool for a Y-Wing too! Great job! You might have convinced me that good alternative builds are not impossible. ;)
