  1. In the meantime, there are many more official pictures at least on https://www.stonewars.de/news/lego-city-neuheiten-im-juni-2023/ Back of the box pics show the modularity, and back/interiors. Especially the modules on sets like the Appartment Building, City Center , Family House and Winter Sport Park look quite interchangable to rapidly make different layouts/combinations. (which is great for Kids or different display layouts for shelves etc, these aren't the Icons Modular buildings we're looking at, so things being a bit simpler + open backs is very logical) I think this is still a better attempt at modularity compared to the 2017-2018 3-in-1 line which many hated, it was very flimsy, but I loved the mega-build aspect of it, when combining multiple sets, and this City line really reminds me of those sets. I also like that the vehicles are kept small in those sets, to ~4 wide cars, or mountain bikes etc. City has a new Creative Lead and it's certainly noticeable. As for the 60367 passenger plane, currently listed as a September release, which explains lack of pictures.
  2. Oh that's still very interesting , and a nice size. The new City ice cream shop also seems to use that as a base, in light grey, no visible plate gap on the picture from above where the roof is removed.
  3. It's nice to see Friends started using those 8x8 and 8x16 x 2/3 plates in that community center, I think it's a great addition to have a 2/3 high "brick" in a useful size even when used as floors as it should be a lot more structurally sturdy to prevent plate bending compared to regular plates over wide gaps. Also probably shouldn't be too hard to modify the community center into a straight line of buildings , so overall seems to be far more interesting compared to the 3-in-1 Main Street, or even combine features of both sets, using the larger plates as a base instead of 6 wide. Also would be interesting to integrate the friends Room sets into the Community Center, 4 floors, 4 rooms without the Kitchen .
  4. Been looking more at the Main Street, and it certainly has a lot of 3d texture on the outer walls, which obviously takes a large chunk out of the piece count. Also while the buildings do have technic pin holes , they don't look directly compatible with the previous generation of 3-in-1 builds without moving some pin hole locations around. I still like the set, but doesn't feel like one of those "get more for the alternate builds" type of sets, mainly because of very strong offerings from City and Friends. (especially if you consider the amount of interior space on the Friends community center for almost same price, while keeping a highly detailed exterior)
  5. So, while waiting for more pictures, been looking at some reviews of sets like the 2023 Police Training Academy, and the same 8x8 and 8x16 "modules" with technic holes seem to apply to most of the new buildings. Even the new car wash seems to be on a 8x16 base and the little green side terrain is clicked in with a technic pin. Ice Cream shop seems to consist of a 8x16 and a 8x8 section for the building, with a 8x8 "terrace" as has been done before with 3-in-1 corner buildings. The appartment building, the planters are clearly hanging on the sides with pins, the main Half Pipe on the skate park gives away the system as well. Can't wait to see more of the interiors / back sides. I think there's a whole lot more modularity to this City to be seen with more pictures and especially videos , reviews, instructions, and those sets are only about 3.5 weeks away.
  6. Overall, very impressed with those sets for summer, it's a great mix of age ranges, from playsets being simpler and around 4+ to 7+, where the 8+, 9+ and especially the 12+ sets. It fills a good gap between playsets and Icons sets. Those newer sets like the Community sets, Beach and Gardens just have a lot more professional look to it, just like the 2022 Art School and Theatre. Even at the lowest price points, the Pancake Shop set looks great, it's small , but contains everything you'd expect from like a small stand in a park/recreation area.
  7. Love the land rover, my only speed champion sets were the F40 and 911 from the 6 wide era (didn't collect before that), and this is a nice model. The area around the headlights look to be a printed 2x2 jumper tile, which is interesting. I do like the main street as well, even while it's quite shallow, it's a bit overshadowed by buildings from Friends and City releasing at the same time.
  8. Best part I like about this wave how there are many buildings, but they also don't come with large vehicles using up the parts/budget/price. Best example would be how last Ski resort would have ambulances and news helicopters and such, and this is basicly a XXL version of 31080: Modular Winter Vacation they made a few years ago with a snow slope on the roof. Seems they took a bunch of inspiration from those 3-in-1 "modular" styled buildings from 2017/2018 as even 60364: Skate Park reminds me a lot of 31081: Modular Skate House (climb wall moved to winter sports park) and 60365: Apartment Building vs 31068: Modular Modern Home
  9. Yeah that looks like "Axl" (nexo knights) flame yellow orange , but I remember there being more confusion around that color for a City crane in the past. In my case even in set 11027: Creative Neon Fun , at first I thought the parts would be Bright orange before seeing the product IRL, but are actually flame yellow, a lot of matter of contrast and how it's used among other colors.
  10. Still, the last wave of sets definately had low spread production, especially for the Mystery Castle set, exception seems to be the Fire truck, that probably just sells poorly so it's still around. A whole bunch of the LEGO Movie 2 sets are also still available online with discounts, even some from wave 1, but just like the Mystery Castle set, a set like Sparkle Babies from the final wave seemed to have low production compared to the rest.
  11. They don't look that amazing but honestly still better then some 3-in-1 style palm trees made out of arch bricks, and usually when a 3-in-1 set uses palm trees it rarely uses those arches for some actual alternate build, so I hope those pieces can also show up in 3-in-1 type of sets. But yeah, overall it's certainly more like banana leaf and not palm leaf, the new Fern pieces suit that role a lot better for smaller palm trees as seen in that new Friends Beach Adventure Park.
  12. I wonder if parts of the LEGO assets made for Unreal Engine 5 will be eventually made for the rumoured LEGO season in Fortnite (currently still rumoured for Chapter 4 Season 4 based on test server data found) As Epic and LEGO signed this partnership recently, and Epic is the creator for the UE5 + fortnite.
  13. Agreed, Donkey Kong leaves and the recent Fern pieces do add a lot more variety to palms in the future assuming they become more common. Traditional palm leaves have been quite rare lately (outside of botanical), and then consider the large ones have been retired for over 20+ years as well, so having some new options is good.
  14. Yeah I feel the same about some of those magazines, even while the price did increase to like €6-€6.50 over the last 2 years, and City availability magazines got reduced from like 12 to 6 in my country, I can fully understand how not having them in a country (or even Continent in the case of North America) at all is quite unfair. And about polybags, yeah they are much harder to find if at all in my area, and CMF are non-existent, never ever seen them in a store at all. Polybag offerings on LEGO.com have pretty much "died" as currently the only offering in my country are a Hidden Side stunt cannon, and a leftover Xtra, and a 2020 DOTS. And many of those magazine builds are still even much better compared to Polybags imo, 952210: Robbie Rolla's Steamroller was my only magazine from 2022 but the build is pure genius. Limited availabilty is just super annoying , regardless of what sized set imo.
  15. 3-in-1 will get some space rollercoaster, while not Icons, is still something.
  16. True, Orcas eat a lot of things, seals at coast/ice, sea lions at beaches, sharks, baby whales/whale tongues, fish, etc etc, even around just the UK there are like orca groups with 3+ different diets. But in the context of Arctic, orcas making waves to get a seal off a floating piece of ice is a known hunting technique, so perfectly would fit alongside a large Arctic LEGO ship set.
  17. Since there's a $10/€10 snowmobile set, it'll probably come with some small animal(s), as City has had sets like the chicken coop or Otter habitat recently with 2 small same animals.
  18. Pure speculation here: Seems logical for that €150 Arctic Research Ship set, as Orcas do eat seals in both Arctic and Antarctic oceans. My guess is that the Arctic ship will come with some floating ice as terrain, instead of underwater/diving being the focus. Especially since there will be 2 other sets focused on Ocean Exploration, with a Boat and a Submarine , without Arctic in the name, but Ocean Explorer , like 2020 (which was an extension of 2015 Deep Sea)
  19. Exactly, Hidden Side and Elves did have some vehicles, in terms of like ships or a schoolbus etc, and some smaller things, it did have a different focus from the typical action themes, and while there certainly seem to be villains (Nightmare King) etc, this sounds a bit different from a combat heavy theme and more about exploring strange places. Locations that sound like what could be future sets from those show descriptions : Night Bureau Dream Forge Brooklyn Cyber World Nightmare King (Castle?)
  20. All this artwork has a lot of Nexo Knight vibes to me, it's quite similar to the illustration styles in the Book of Monsters / Book of Knights but more refined. Nexo was the theme that got me back into LEGO (after 15 years) so for me this looks great so far. I like that it's a mix of sword, spear, energy crossbow and perhaps a raygun, and then fantasy creatures etc. With 2 other themes that generally use vehicles/mechs (Ninjago & Monkie Kid and formerly Chima/Nexo), I hope this is a little more creature , location focused overall, and for the first wave at least a flying bus and sharkship sound at least different enough from those. Could have a lot of potential, and so far hopefully no sign of app/game focused but just a TV show.
  21. True, LEGO has been gotten somewhat faster with that for sure, recently, in the case of Frog showing up in 2023, while 1.19 is still the current patch from mid-2022. But yeah the Shulker was from 1.9, which is from 2016, and just showed up this year alongside a chorus plant in the same set. Now that Deep Dark City has a set , maybe at some point there'll be some End City / End Ship type of set (obviously downscaled from in-game)
  22. It's quite curious to see how Minecraft Dungeons did get a LEGO set pretty much right at release with 21163: The Redstone Battle (game released in May, set in June 2020) Time will tell I guess. As far as the normal minecraft game goes, sometimes LEGO sets have come quite a while after the actual game updates For example : Update Aquatic released mid-2018 in-game, but the first LEGO product with ship and turtle was 21152: Pirate Ship from 2019, and then it took even 2 more years for Coral to show up in a LEGO set : 21164: The Coral Reef in 2021. Similarly, Piglin have been in the game since June 2020 ,but the first LEGO Piglin set was 21168: The Warped Forest in June 2021, and then the first Bastion 1 year later 21185: The Nether Bastion from June 2022.
  23. My guess would be something 6-7 deep with open back 2023 really is pushing those new 16x8 and 8x8 plates for the building floors so it seems likely to see more 60371: Emergency Vehicles HQ building is 6 studs deep, leaving 1 stud for this new base to attach roads or side-terrain. Or 60372: Police Training Academy is 7 studs deep, and has some 8x8 sections. I like the idea of those new plates and how they are meant to integrate easily into road plates, but I also see how it increases parts count as each of those plate gaps is filled with more 1x4 bits, and that includes middle floor and ceilings. That said, 8x16 and 8x8 are my favorite size for buildings with open back.
  24. Nice build, I don't have the original LEGO island minifigs but at least there was Ronny, from the same set of Chef Enzo that I do have with a modern variant of that pizza torso. I still plan to "recycle" the parts from City pizza Van and other things into a pizza building at some point as well.
  25. If anything Bionicle related would come back I'd probably be the most interested in something resembling those 2005-2007 Playsets with more "minifig" scale characters, and locations.
