  1. That idol statue is INCREDIBLE I love the earrings, and all the detailing!
  2. Thanks for the kind words! I did toy with the idea of making it 8 wide but the modular nature and fitting in with the new Eldorado system was more important to me, that and I wanted it to feel like a TLG set, and not some sprawling 2000 piece moc. Working in the constraints of part and space restrictions felt more genuine to the original and the overall style of the draft.
  3. Just a few updates with pictures, following advice I changed a few small things too. Hope you like v2!
  4. Thanks for the great comments guys! I’ll take some pictures in a different layout sometime soon and my Eldorado is due in just over a week (thanks Australia) so I can show it in the layout too :)
  5. The updates said you made is incredible!
  6. Now this is what I wanna see more off!! This great, and a lovely small set reminiscent of smaller boxes pirate sets! Pros: instantly recognisable as pirate lookout the inclusion of the crows nest for the lookout Great small rock build cons: id like to have seen maybe a smaller footprint for the build, with a slightly less uniform shape. all up a fantastic rebuild!
  7. Thank you for the kind words! The stairs on the dock were something I toyed with in early design but I’m terrible in smaller scale design work, and since it wasn’t in the original it was playing a bit fast and loose with the overall “recognition” factor. But I agree it would certainly look better with them! And the bridge! Man it’s my least favorite part of the whole thing, I initially wanted it to be 4 studs wide but without modding the floor print of the other side I couldn’t make it look good but this is probably my own biggest criticism! You actually picked up on something left over from my early design for this and it was an extra play feature involving a falling egg onto the guard that I couldn’t quite incorporate properly! great review, thank you!
  8. Well let me preface this by saying this is in my top 2 entries so far. I never had sabre island as a kid but always thought it looked cool and this redesign is great! pros: fantastic recreation of the base, especially using the green! Great dock design love the rounded half wall cons: This is really nitpicking but the colour distribution of the tower walls could benefit from a more even modern approach using the rounded red plates offset to look like bricks, rather than the 2015 dark red brick. and as much as I hate it… the barracuda palm tree should be the el dorado one! still very very close to my top choice, fantastic entry!
  9. Wow this is pretty well done! It feels just like a 2009 set in all the best and worst of its glory! pros: the use of raised baseplates the style of building using those panel pieces the gold chest just screams 2009 general colour choices cons: slightly unbalanced in terms of build distribution I actually think it would be incredibly hard to build in an earlier style, especially difficult to mimic a time in design when I’m pretty sure even TLG themselves had given up 🤣 great entry all up.
  10. Another good review thank you! The cramped nature was something that I really struggled with here; but it was something I decided NEEDED to remain. The nature of the competition is something TLG would release. There are some truely brilliant entries in this competition but none of those massive sets even for a second feel like something that would be built but TLG. Instead I chose to stick to the original footprint of the brig and ensure that it would fit in place with the new el dorado set, almost like a GWP set. The height of the rock wall is the same as the comment above, it won’t fit seamlessly without this height. The grey rock wall of el dorado uses masonry bricks as part of the foundation, I disliked this but thematically it was the correct decision, same as the palm tree design. (I hate the one I used but it’s thematically correct). The same justification is used for the colour choice for the first 2 courses of bricks being yellow! Hope that helps you to understand my choices, even if the final product wasn’t entirely your cup of tea!
  11. Now this is a review! Thank you for the insights I find this kind of constructive criticism incredibly helpful! i 100% agree about the angled wall section, but with current bricks we are rather limited and the official dorado set didn’t use those techniques, so I instead tried to emulate those. The rock wall had to be that height to click in with the section of el dorado when displayed long way’s unfortunately, and during building this was one of my primary concerns! Thank you very much!
  12. Would love some more constructive criticisms on this one! Might attempt a few changes before the end date.
  13. For my entry iv decided to remake the classic broadsides brig with renegades raft added play feature. The reason the raft was added was part of a story build / play feature, and the build was made to be modular to fit into the current Eldorado modular style. Module 1 is the prison cell itself. Module 2 is the middle dock section. And finally module 3 is Captainess Broadsides room with tea set and medals. And finally the bridge that connects both sections. The raft is a simple affair mimicking the original. The minifigures are as close to original styling as possible, however I like the idea that times moved on, with governor Broadsides daughter as a captain in his forces, and eagle eyed people may notice the renegade is now captain Krag! The story of the build and play feature are as follows! The guard is bored of his duties, and decides to take his eyes off the Wiley pirates and enjoy a little grog and a some fishing, while the captive pirate realised the cell has been left unlocked! Following this, the renegade takes his chance and shoots the base of the palm tree; With the quick removal of a pin, the palm falls and the captive takes his chance and runs while everyone is distracted! Getting aboard the raft and leaving! The captain attempts the shot but she misses, allowing the pirates to escape another day! I hope you all enjoy my entry and if you do, please feel free to check out my Flickr and I’m happy to do deconstructions if anyone cares for a copy. Thank you!
  14. 100% it’s why it’s not so much a criticism! This is why it’s a top tier entry!
  15. Darn what a cool little build! Pros: love the smaller cannon love the hull design love the front section with the lantern Cons: why get rid of the classic red? I know the darker is more grimy and realistic but harbour sentry to me is always obnoxiously bright with a ridiculous cannon! great entry still!
  16. Wow; this is actually pretty cool for an era themed fort, kind of reminds me of the Napoleonic era theme they were going to produce! pros: good simplified building style, that can’t have been easy to replicate. colour choice seems era appropriate, weird combinations like white roof and red walls is startlingly correct weird jankieness that is common in a lot of later pirates sets is here too. cons: doesn’t outwardly yell pirates at me i feel like a bigger dock would fit better pretty great effort though!
  17. Oh wow! This is an entry! I never had this set as a kid and used to pine over catalogs wishing for it, even though that day never came. Very very impressed with this entry and love everything you’ve done. pros: the remake of the base and the waterfall etc are incredible added play features that never existed use of right current era palms, this is one of my biggest complaints about a lot of entries in this; and you’ve used the right style. just stunningly done cons: I hate doing this for entries I like, but some of it is a tiny bit too similar to original a lot of the “remake” style sets show that time has moved forward, hence red beard being grey; etc, I’d love to have seen this maybe as a bit of ruin now? With pirates living in the ruins and the islanders being the “raiders” now? But that’s just nonsense complaints, this is my favourite entry so far!
  18. I do agree that the front paging certainly does give an an unfair advantage, especially if voting will be advertised there. If it’s the only entrant that they have seen, and don’t understand the scope of the contest, people will almost always vote for the biggest moc that they can.
  19. Renegades raft is a fave of mine! Iv also included a rebuild of this into my entry as part of the “play” feature. so let’s review! pros: love the colour change to brown love the wood pieces (used those too!) absolutely love the sail inclusion, really feels like a modern update for a small set including the brick built sail. cons: My one complaint is the inclusion of the gun clip on the sail, feels a tiny bit unnecessary but to each there own! Again this really understands the scope of the competition and is one of the better entries so far!
  20. Well this is going to be embarrassing when I post my entry because we have built pretty much the exact same thing minus a tiny few “gimmicks” on mine. So I guess my review is that it’s the best so far… could just use a few gimmicks :p no seriously though, you’ve really understood the scope of the competition brilliantly
  21. Inverted slope and maybe slope round?
  22. Yeah Iv only seen it once in passing and never really looked again. Seriously great build though, I actually might try and replicate this down the road.
  23. Was the new Disney train sail too small size wise? I think it would have been a good fit!
  24. Now this is what I wanted ship wise! This is fantastic, what a brilliant update while still being so clearly the clipper. pros: wonderful scale and techniques to make that work! colour change of the deck is perfect masting / rigging looks great Cons: This is tough because I really don’t have any gripes but if I really had to knit pick and it’s silly, I’d say the swords missing on the sail is about my only complaint. All up, this is currently tied for my favourite entry so far. Would 100% buy this if released.
  25. This is a phenomenal build, and I love so many of the details. However just like with the other Eldorado rebuild entry, I have a few issues. pros: nearly everything the roofs look impressive the walled sections that cap off the peaks of the roofs are architecturally gorgeous a huge scope and filled with detail cons: i don’t see any lego set including a noose and lastly… the biggest complaint I have and I hate to say this because I love this build, but at no time did I identify this set as the imperial trading post, if it hadn’t been in the heading I don’t think I would have connected the two unfortunately.
