42056 - Porsche Speculation
Beard replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I somewhat get the idea of being the first to review something. But I will certainly have a look at many reviews, and quality of the writing and photos and understanding the substance are much more important to me, than reading the first ever review, the second it comes out. In that sense, I think it's not that big a deal if someone gets a jump start on their review or shares photos early. I will do the same. I will probably modify and rebuild it until the orange comes off the parts! And it does not come off easily... But that's the genius idea behind Lego, and I think they'll be happy to see what the community comes up with. -

I like the way you think! -

I wish all the e-tailers would also respect the box the same way. I doubt it, though. -
An industrial robot. Although it might be more suitable for Mindstorms, but still would be nice.

I guess they were just trying to make it look similar to the original one. It has a bit of a same effect as the orange handlebars in the Volvo excavator. Because the parts are too big, they look a little off. -
It looks very authentic. Good work! I will add a picture of the original from John Deere just to illustrate how nice your model is compared to it:

Grum's Shed

I already submitted my vote (8880), but I have enough patience to wait for it if you choose the Arocs :). I have never built 8880 myself, but am really considering getting it. I've read such good things about it. -

At least the long blue pins are fairly easy to replace with black ones, since they are available in a number of older sets. Same goes for some of the gears. I still agree with what you say. -

It's all in the white balance. I think it's still the normal orange. -
Thanks for taking the time to write this. If I wouldn't be so busy with work at the moment, I'd give it a try at once. Isee there's some delay with the Myo control, but that's probably because of the complex stack of control software. May I ask what kind of latency there is with the gamepad? It's a bit difficult to see in the video, but latency seems quite ok.

I think my first mod will be HOG steering and gear changers. Not that I'm disappointed, not at all. I just believe there is a lot of space to create a somewhat stylish HOG implementation. -

Comparing this and the earlier box art, it's like one of those games where you try finding differencies between two pictures . There are quite many. -

I would like to spend some sweet time figuring out how to motorize some of the functions myself. Whether or not it is upgradeable, I'd to do it my own way. -

I would welcome that. It's annoying to follow the modern-style instruction, where nothing seems to happen, except for turning pages or scrolling down the pdf. Also, a pdf with a proper resolution and colours would be nice, because I want to store the instruction manual sealed. -

That's a very good looking truck you have there. Definitely looking forward to building it! -

8880 supercar. One day I will have one of these. Until then... pictures will have to do. -

I think it looks very good. Like a race car from a scifi movie. -
Thanks! Thank you! In this case, one would have to think outside the box to come up with something too silly, because the A and B models are so similar. But that would make it even funnier, is somebody manages to create an odd machine that resembles both, but is something completely different. I think you're right, that kind of competition could be very much fun with a suitable model!

Here's my mod of the Arocs. I've also shortened it to only have one front axle. Or actually it's based on the B model, to which I have added the second rear axle. Essentially it's a blend of both, the A and B models. I have also converted it into RC, with an L-motor for driving both rear axles and a servo for steering. Both fit neatly into the location of the original fake engine and cabin, but I did have to modify the attachment of the seats quite heavily. The cabin still opens up just like the original, although I forgot to take a photo of it. One L-motor operates the tipper, and it's also RC. Here it is:

A walker is something I have too been thinking. I recently built the Segway-style two-wheeled robot using the Lego gyro sensor, and the way it works gives me hope of a working two-legged walker. There are many walkers that don't really balance them actively, but instead rely on the mechanics of the feet. But I find e balancing very interesting. -

I will probably buy the newer helicopter at some point, which gives me the big rotor blades. After that, I have all the parts, except for the small rotor blades. I'm ok with it, because I won't display them. I will build both helicopters one by one, just because of the building experience. Then take them apart and use the parts for something else. -
