Total rebuild of Lord of Skull Spiders
TheDesuComplex replied to PrimoUltimo's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I think this is one of the best 'centaur' recreations I have seen yet of LoSS, mainly because it looks pretty dang solid to me with plenty of armor and little to no gaps. I can definitely tell a ton of work has gone into him. Just one question, where is the last set of legs? -
I am pretty sure her shells are still Trans-Dark-blue and not the opaque variant. I can see the bone through the shell on her left arm, and it matches the shade of Trans-Dark-Blue very well.

I believe that they are 4M. On the topic of recolors- I doubt that it costs that much to make new ones, the only difference being the cost of dye. The only issues are with space to keep parts, and even that is not much of an issue because they don't really keep bins of parts anymore. I think part of it is due to Lego not wanting to have a large element library open (aka 'different parts in different colors') for sets in production.

Yeah, I prefer all the Toa have golden masks so that they have a bit of unity (pun intended) as a solid team. I think the better option would have been for all the creatures to have golden heads, even if they clashed with the color schemes of some. And I will probably swap out some gold on Tahu for red once I get him as well in order to have more of his color represented.

Seconded. It would have been awesome to see a tag-team duo of two smaller skellies.

While I wish this where a thing, I bet the crystal pieces will be made of gold. This at least somewhat preserves the 'bigger Toa get gold' that Lego seems to have been going for, and will help match Melum's creature mask and Kopaka's golden Mask of Unity in the end. One thing you could do is transplant some of the gold from Tahu onto Kopaka if you want more.

Hello all! I've had a good long while to sit on all my modifications, of which I have made quite a few. I'm at the point where I pretty much consider myself finished with all of them, only a few minor tweaks that would require more purchases than what I can make right now. I've added some more things, replaced some things, and finally gotten the Skull Villains in-hand to do what I please with. I've rounded up all my sets again and taken some good pictures for posterity's sake. As always, feel free to give feedback and ask questions. Here's my album of the Toa Masters. Of note is a solution I came up with a short while ago for mask storage. Here's my album of the Protectors. Includes Ekimu and a surprise guest! Here's my album of the Skull Villains. Also includes LoSS and another surprise guest! Two months until the 2016 sets hit!

That's awesome to see that they are in silver, as mentioned by Shakar; it's awesome also to see that Onua's torso is pretty much confirmed to be black. Honestly, I am ambivalent on the Dark Blue shells, which sucks because there are only two pieces of it on the whole set but is awesome because we finally get the color. I'll wait for in-hand impressions on that. As I have expressed before, I am extremely happy to see that Gali's translucent color is Trans-Dark-Blue, as I have been actively separating the colors on her and Kopaka (to Trans-Dark-Blue and Trans-Light-Blue respectively). I'm also happy to see that the masks are confirmed to be blended, as I think showing some of the elemental color in will work even better given that these are supposed to be Toa even more in tune with their elemental abilities. My only concern about this is that kids who saw the blended masks in the 2H2015 wave will think the Masks of Unity are corrupted in some sense.

It's awesome to see someone try out CCBS thanks to these figures. He looks pretty dang good on the motorcycle, which makes me think there could be a Technic set in the future consisting of a bike with a CCBS rider.

Takua and Takanuva Gen 2 Style
TheDesuComplex replied to xboxtravis7992's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Those are actually quite nice ones! You where smart to just rework official sets to create these, and the pile of sets at the end of the Takanuva page is pretty dang funny. -
Yes, Lego has always been like this. They pretty much don't officially acknowledge stuff until the day it comes out save for website updates and previews in the Lego Club magazines or the catalog. As I've said numerous times, the early preview of Bionicle last year was the exception to the rule and not something to be expected on a yearly basis.

What sort of stuff did they talk about at the panel? That's pretty great that they allowed info about the 2016 sets, and something I was certainly not expecting.

I doubt there will be concrete storage as Umarak has the Piece of Unification, which needs to stay open for if he catches any Creatures. There's always the possibility that you will be able to stick the bow on the same pin though, which I will probably do if they don't come up with a proper solution. I don't know if it has been mentioned, but Umarak's description says explicitly that you can take his shoulderpads off to make another Shadow Trap, so I am betting that is an official feature. That chain hanging off of one pad might be used as a leash of sorts when combined with the chain on his sword.

I've made my own full mock-up of Umarak based on your design. What I find most interesting about it is that it is actually quite a bit taller than the 2015 Toa, Kopaka only coming up to the top of his chest. I expect most of the Uniters to be about the same height.
-
No, I just bet it's a rendering error. It looks about right, they just show it being inside all the the hand, which would require both to be new parts. I doubt the hands are changing anytime soon.

Since Uniter Tahu's legs are the same length as Master Tahu's, the only height difference would come from the torso; that height difference is actually 2 cm, not that much (only a couple modules or so).

It's the same piece used to give hip articulation to Evo XL. Chronos, have you tried using this Barraki Armor in place of the Piece of Unification?
-
Yep, I thought it was just Umarak but it looks to be both. I am even more sure that piece is the 'Piece of Unification' mentioned in the French bios, as we can see that it is used to construct the upper torso from the ground up and is an integral part of all the sets. I have a feeling this might mean the torsos are completely custom outside of that and the hip piece, which hopefully is not a detriment to stability.

Star Wars Constraction 2016 Discussion
TheDesuComplex replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Okay, I think that there is a new piece used on Finn. This piece should cover up his back, allowing the torso to be based entirely around the gearbox and leave only the gear sticking out of the back. This piece extends over the shoulders a bit to help cover them up and also contains the ball joint that the head attached to. This same piece can be used in Rey and Kylo. -
Umarak seems to use a custom torso build. Not sure where the gearbox his head and shoulders are attatched to comes from, but looks new. Maybe it is a Gearbox used on the Creatures? I think it's the new piece used on the Creature's chests! I think the Toa use the top half of the 28 tooth turntable on a new custom hip piece. Umarak and Tahu include 6M bones in their respective transparent colors, both new. Called it on Tahu! Umarak's mask still looks mangled, but is in silver now. Yes, Umarak's sword has the extra studs hanging off of it. Nice addition in my opinion. The 'Shadow Traps' (name confirmed, another thing I called!) use a clicky-hinge to snap shut. Really hoping that the Creatures heads attatch in some way but looks unlikely now.

Star Wars Constraction 2016 Discussion
TheDesuComplex replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Yeah, Phasma looks no different from a regular First Order Stormtrooper outside of her armor being polished silver. That's a design change I really like, as you don't need bikini armor on every single female character, but that's a discussion for a later time. I am also really glad they are making so many neutral colored CCBS pieces now, and have made quite a few good design choices such as Poe's Technic-built flight harness and the apparent use of 2015 gearboxes. -
Looks like it does include Ekimu's protector mask in the end. It's an okay generic mask to include, but they really missed a chance putting something else in there (Like the MoCr or a red Skull Spider), but that has already been discussed.

Dare ya to make them both driven by the same gear. Yup, that's my favorite thing about this new torso, as we have seen the ability to add on the arms in any number of ways.

Star Wars Constraction 2016 Discussion
TheDesuComplex replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I wonder if the general attitude has changed now that they are out. In hand reactions, at least from my experience, have seemed pretty positive. I still think it should be better to keep them here though, with people who are used to CCBS. If anything, they should include a link in the Star Wars forum linking to this topic. -
If anyone is wondering, the $15 Uniters are supposedly over 21 cm tall. Tahu is the tallest at 23 by the way, which isn't much of a difference at all. Kopaka Master is about 19.5 cm, which gives the Uniters at least a noticeable height difference over all the Masters. I didn't realize it, but that pretty much confirms it. I really hope that the Toa do indeed have different functions. Onua I could really see having the arm swinging function, while I am not sure how well Tahu's will work if the shells on his shoulders are flush behind the chest armor. Edit: The Creature heads are confirmed to be Masks, and I think that the 'Piece of Unification' is the new armor that is used on the Creature's chests.
