[VIDEO] BIONICLE: Age of Kulta
TheDesuComplex replied to The Phantom Terror's topic in LEGO Action Figures
WHEN CAPTAIN AMERICA POHATU THROWS HIS MIGHTY SHIELD STORMERANGS ALL THOSE WHO CHOSE TO OPPOSE HIS SHIELD STORMERANGS MUST YIELD That's certainly a very awesome video. Creative use of the audio to set up a similar trailer and picking which character represents who. -
I believe that when we saw her mask get knocked off in Skull Grinder's character video, she did indeed have a more feminine face; if by 'more feminine' you mean 'thinner than some others'

There's a possibility that the bow could be built around the same piece the Stormtrooper's blaster is. It looks generic enough that it could fit in with Bionicle, which I imagine is the intent.

The problem with pink eyes on a Fire themed set is that it's close enough to red that it blends in, I would rather have eyestalks in colors that stand out (which is why I am glad they gave Tahu and Narmoto blue eyes this year). I've expressed the same thing before with Trans-Purple- that it usually does not show up bright enough to distinguish it from black, especially when it has parts covering it and little light entering. That's an issue with Onua's thighs that I had this year and why I expressed that it would work better as a shell color, where its dark shade would help it work alongside black shells. Oh man, thanks for reminding me that we still need to see the 5L and 7L bones in Trans-Neon-Orange. I think they are the last Chima-exclusive recolor left. Also excited to see how Pohatu turns out; hopefully there will be even more parts recolored into Dark Orange, and the info mentioned that he will be a bit bigger than before as well.

I am very glad that they retained the joke of Pohatu smashing through the gate and everyone else just slinking past, and I noticed in the animation that he has heavy breathing from the exertion. Having the narration when Lewa gets his mask stolen was pretty smart. Lewa's personality is coming through even stronger now, which is great because all of his dialogue doesn't really feel that far from something Lewa Mata would say.

Clutching my halitite, here's some of my thoughts: I am pretty darn happy that they kept the same mask molds for the Toa, as they look great. I am wondering what recolors they will be; their main color and their transparent color melded together ala the Protector masks would be my best guess, which would work well considering that they are made by Ekimu. All of the weapons seem either extremely fitting (Onua, Gali) or 'Huh, I never thought of the possibility but it works' (Pohatu, Tahu) so we can certainly give the designers tips for creative weapons that are not more of the same. The Toa also sound like they are pretty much the same build but with some new changes; while that isn't a bad thing, it does mean that my purchases will probably be more staggered and I won't be rushing out to get all the Toa like I was this year. Probably start out with the Creatures and Umarak and get another Toa each month. The Creatures themselves all sound like they will have very interesting builds based around function. After LOSS and Skull Scorpio, I have confidence that they will come out pretty good. Rahi-esque sets, here we come! Umarak sounds like a really good villain set, especially glad they are doing trans-dark-green over trans-neon-orange or anything. I am just afraid that the hound will leech a lot of parts budget off of him. Edit: I went back through the list and sorted out all the info, finding a couple new things. Apparently if these are true I predicted Trans-Purple armor for Onua. Not too sure how well that will turn out for Ikir's brainstalk though, unless his mask lets in a lot of light.

Or better yet, black and some very, very dark grey.

Yup, that's what I bet will happen. Speaking on the 'Unity' combiners- if the Creatures are like the 4chan leaks said (their bodies are shooters like the Stormtrooper's blaster), I hope that one of the Toa's arms is replaced by the shooter in a Megaman-esque way. I think that the creatures will be like Legendary Pokemon: Singular elemental entities who are still considered animals by definition but are still sentient individuals.

Assuming the release date is January 1st, they will probably be up on the shop for a week prior but unable to be purchased until midnight that date.

I'm hoping that they make trans-purple shells. We now know what they look like as bones, and they suffer greatly from the fact that shells cover them up and block light from coming in, and because they are not neon and bright, they look incredibly dark. Using the color for shells could help bring some more trans-purple in in a way that helps the color shine more than hurts it.

Yeah, I am really happy with the boxes we have gotten. They could stand to being a bit thicker, but I think all the people complaining about how fragile they are (I am sorry I couldn't quote you as well Voxovan and Dorek, but I am on mobile) are overblown. I've gotten a lot of sets and have not had any problems with the boxes being busted or smashed up. I hope that they do keep the same style of boxes, as their hexagonal shape really helps them stand out on the shelf while still fitting in as distinctly Lego. Edit: Names are hard.

No, that's not what I am talking about; they probably don't use it because the connections on the mask are under 2 studs wide, and putting them on the axle connections might be out of system and make the masks more loose over time. The connections they have been using work well, but do not use the ridges in front of the connection to stabilize the mask and as such it flops around. (If you are wondering what I mean, take a look at the head piece; the connection the masks use is smaller than the one for the eyestalk.) Not sure how to describe the part I have in my mind well. I am picturing a piece like the head, but without the head features, ball cup, and space for the eyestalk; it would probably be about the size of the friction extender. Edit: Okay, I went and looked at a headpiece; I will have to admit that my concerns over the connection being out of system are probably overblown. I'm still not sure if it will hurt the connection over time though.

Oh man, you just gave me an idea. As shown by the MoCr's stand and the 'Villain Pack', Lego needs to come up with some sort of part to hold masks snugly. It would be a very cool thing if they came up with some part that holds masks and has a technic connection, but isn't a full head; this way you could make a mask stand without the masks flopping around or connectors getting bent and damaged, but its primary use in sets could be to put infected masks on non-humanoid beasts without a humanoid head.

Who knows, maybe they happened in some sort of sequential order and LOSS has fast-travel or teleportation capabilities! For real though, the ones for that wave are obviously not canon but I think that these are made from miscellanious clips from the nine episodes about the Summer Wave. I do agree with GK733 when he says that Kopaka's mask was only stolen in a still shot that had an artstyle slightly off to lead me to believe that it was made specifically for the character video.

Hmm, okay, I didn't remember those parts. I still find it odd that they just defeated the Warriors and moved on without Kopaka's mask getting taken; maybe it was cut for time. Pohatu's is still up in the air but Onua is definitely getting his taken later on.

I'm glad to see that it wasn't fate seemingly picking Lewa for random to get his mask taken, but that we saw him be a victim out of his own arrogance and cockyness. It's a nice homage while driving home a small lesson of sorts. Considering that we did not see Kopaka's mask get taken and none of the Skull Villains minus Slicer featured mask stealing in their animations, I think it's safe to say that Lewa will be the only one. Here is how I see this wave of episodes playing out:

So the 'missing set' is Kopaka and the Creature of Ice named 'Melum'. I am hoping that this is a two-pack of a $10 Creature and $15 Toa. I really want to see Kopaka as a $15 Toa, because it will mean that he is a bit smaller than before. I remember pretty much the only complaint against the set was how bulky he is being uncharacteristic for Kopaka- a complaint that leads me to realize that I would like to see Kopaka as a smaller set, where his bulk is not indicative of his power. I still think that the Creatures and Toa will combine, fusing into an even more powerful Toa. It would be a good way to address the people thinking that the 'Powered Up' combos were disinteresting.

Bionicle 2016 Story Discussion & Rumors
TheDesuComplex replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Yup, that's my idea on how the Winter wave's story will go. The summer will involve Makuta popping in for real (maybe with Shadow Toa or Rahkshi homages) to claim the MoCo and the Toa have to prevent him from doing so. They are not able to keep him from it and he escapes with it. Seque into next year's story featuring Ekimu and Makuta (with their respective teams) each racing to claim the MoUP. -
inb4 Ghasts confirmed for next years villain's Seriously though, that's awesome and sounds a lot like the playtesting rumors. Looking forward to this.

[Review] 5002942 Bionicle Villain pack
TheDesuComplex replied to Tremah's topic in LEGO Action Figures
As I have already stated, I hope that this comes out in October for the US for a number of reasons. The cardboard mask stand is a neat idea and something that I just may have to replicate to make more. The golden Kulta mask is also a neat extra, so I'm fine with it. On the stand, has anyone tried replacing the top part with the rubber liftarm? That might help out. -
Here's to hoping that polybag is available in October, as it would make sense to promote the Skull Villains in the month before Halloween and that's when I will be able to buy them. We do know that, at least in the US, it is not an August or September promotion.

From the 2015 topic: I think it would be far more fitting for 'Mask Hunter' to be Makuta, as 'Hunter' is an ominous sounding monicker. My guess if it is Makuta is that we will be getting a build ala 2015 Ekimu, with a gearbox attatched to a Protector-like build; the main difference between him and Ekimu will be that his limbs are longer/bulkier and he is in the red and black color scheme, signifying his transformation from the MoUP. This set could fit into the same $15 price point that LOSS occupied this year, as I feel that an Ekimu with longer limbs and more bulk could warrant $15. I am not sure what masks he would include- I doubt they would put in the MoCo until the Summer wave.

No need to be rude about other people, especially when they are being conscious that there is a different place. Anyway, with the set list, here's my hopes: Toa: Based on the playtesting rumors, the Toa use the SW lego armor with kneepad and torso. I think this could go pretty well. I would like to see the introduction of new alternate colors- instead of transparent, make them other accent colors such as tan (including parts from Grevious) for Pohatu and medium azure (the one used before for CCBS) for Gali. I think that the new 'spike w/ vent' armor will look very good in practice. 'C': I am hoping that there are small villain sets in the vein of what the playtesting leaks described as 'walking shooters'. I am also hoping that they either bring new colors to the table or bring plenty of variations to their builds ala the Protectors. Hunter: Although there are rumors that this is a 'Toa Ekimu', I really hope this isn't the case. I would like for this to be a villain with a similar role as LOSS, the main antagonist of the wave who controls the smaller beasts.
-
Is it okay to post the list directly? I will go ahead and post it in a spoiler. Paraphrasing it, we have all six Toa again and another set of sets entitled 'JC' and the like. I bet that the first letter refers to the element (Jungle, Water, Stone, Fire, Earth) and there is a missing 'IC'. Not sure what the 'C' stands for, but could it mean 'Creature'? We also have a 'Hunter' set, which I imagine will be the main antagonist of the wave ala LOSS.

Bionicle Skull Villain Alternate Builds
TheDesuComplex replied to TheOneVeyronian's topic in LEGO Action Figures
The silver fins look great with the bone-bones. I would suggest changing out the y-joints to some in dark grey, which might help.
