  1. I imagine that those two protectors are sold in a case assortment together (i.e. the box from Lego has, say 4 PoE and 4 PoW in it) and the employees are just cracking open the first box they find to put something in the lego aisle.
  2. Talking about Japanese influences... when his swords are raised they remind me of the Sashimono flags worn by samurai. That was my first thought upon seeing his animated form in the NYCC and it's stuck with me since.
  3. Keep in mind that animations and physical toys are often designed independently of each other. When they are similar to the hair that is usually due to collaboration between the two teams versus one being completed prior. It is very likely that the animations are based off of early prototypes with things changed on down the line. You can also attribute it to artistic license and the like. Congrats on the sets, ButtScientist! I was not able to order them because I was busy that afternoon.
  4. Oooh, it looks plenty good. I think that I do prefer the more cartoony animation style we are getting over plain GCI copies of the sets like with the Hero Factory animations, and I imagine this is what we would have gotten if it had been in that style still.
  5. I have finally been able to get home see the animations and I have to say that I love the narration, the tone, and so on. Looking forward to seeing more down the line! That actually sounds like a plausible plan and one I would take if I were Lego. Perhaps two a month, one being the Masters doing battle and the other being the Protectors teaching them something.
  6. Oh man, I completely forgot about spoiler tags for a moment. If I had known I would have gone into so much detail... I'll be posting my revamps once they get done in a separate topic, and I'll save a rundown of the minute details for then. On the Protectors, I also dislike the spinny weapons. For PoI I made an arm blaster (that replaces his forearm) with the shield attached to it, and for PoE I am hoping to get a second copy so he can have a full mace. Can I also say that I quite like Dark Bley bones for brighter colors like the ones Gali and Lewa will be sporting, and I wish that we had the torso in dark grey. (We only have the one with the extra shoulder balls in dark bley.) For LOSS, funnily enough the revamp is based off of Scarox. No, not that atrocious standard set, but a more spider-esque revamp I made of him. The main structure involves two of the large torso beams with one flipped so that the 'neck' ball is over the 'crotch' ball of the other one. This gives you eight balls to attach the legs and plenty of points to attach armor to the main body. I have the revamp almost entirely done- all I need is the chestplate from the stock LOSS set. I will definitely still be getting the whole set because he makes a great Technic parts pack either way.
  7. I remember when I bought the first Daughtry CD and I instantly recognized it as used in the Mahri commercials.
  8. On him and Pohatu, the asymmetrical shells are starting to grow on me and have given me an idea. My current idea is that the Stone Villagers are master craftsmen of the more minute kind then in G1, and they are experts in robotics. (Which would also explain the silver feet/hands on some Protectors as robotic gloves/boots). The Protector of Stone is one of the most skilled in robotics, and his entire right arm is enhanced by robotic attachments (ala Deus Ex). My idea also involves Pohatu's high strength, agility, speed, etc. coming from equipment given to him by the Stone Village. Another idea that I have is that long ago Pohatu was critically injured (thanks to his tenacity and stubbornness) and his lower legs and right arm had to be replaced.
  9. When I was rebuilding my 8534 I swapped out his eyes for the Tr Blue color (used with Kopaka) because of this reason- I hated how his eye color seemed to blend with his mask color, and blue was very visually interesting and added more life to his eyes in comparison. I'm glad that they decided to use the Tr Blue eyes for 70787.
  10. I dropped by (my North Texas) Target last night and did not find anything. I've officially gone from 'oh, I can wait until the 1st' to 'I need these now.' Crossing my fingers I can find the Stone figures.
  11. I think Dark Orange plus Reddish Brown doesn't look that bad in your example. They look almost like two shades of the same color and I think it would lend itself well to color layering.
  12. I also have quite a few plans that involve getting multiples of figures... My wallet is hurting so much already. Almost 18 days to go!
  13. Yup, I agree with your ideas on modding. The sets are very good on their own, but I am gonna make a handful of small adjustments on them once I get them to refine them a teensy bit more. I absoulutely love how well CCBS lends itself to small modifications! My current plans involve: Lewa- moving down his shoulders one module and replace the keetorange. PoJ: Replacing the majority of the trans apple green and keetorange with apple green and olive green. Gali- simplifying her trident down PoW- moving the propellers to the back Pohatu- removing the trans neon green (which will wait until I get him in-hand to see how it looks) PoS- revamping his weapon into a minigun-esque shooter Kopaka- new shield attatchment PoI- more trans light blue, new weapon mounts, and ELBOWS Tahu- more trans neon orange PoF- new chest build, a sword made out of those fire pieces, and ELBOWS Onua- swapping gold pieces to silver PoE- a revamp from the ground up to be primarily dark grey and black with some purple LOSS- a complete and total revamp from the ground up to be big, bulky, and based on CCBS
  14. Although I wouldn't mind a constraction theme dedicated entirely to combining figures... I mean, stores will take some time to recover following the frenzy that is last-minute Christmas shopping. Usually stores have recovered by the first, but not always.
  15. My first thought was polybags ala the BA one, but I feel that if we get polybags they will contain more Skull Spiders. I do hope promo items are a thing though. When Lego sends the sets out to retailers, they come with a note of some sort saying 'DO NOT SELL UNTIL JANUARY 1ST'. The deal is that some stores (usually TRU) break this date and put out sets early for the Christmas season.
  16. 'Be one of the first to see the brand new sets!' on the Lego homepage. I so want to think that this is a snarky comment about it leaking so early... I also signed up for the notification email because why not.
  17. I was one of the ones who was able to nab BA-W2 when they released them, and they did fulfill my order, so I bet that they will honor this one. They're still pretty lucky. Again, reiterating my plans to reserve the wave at the Lego Store on the 1st and go pick it up. That's IMO the best bet for getting them as soon as possible without monitoring the TRU site with constant vigilance.
  18. I am personally not going to go through the hassle of trying to slip in during broken street dates, and if I were I certainly wouldn't be checking this early (probably closer to the 15th-19th). I'm simply going to wait until the 1st, call up the Lego Store to reserve a handful of sets, and have a nice evening in the city. I have waited a few years and I can still wait a handful more days.
  19. Yeah, I was suspecting that there would be a catch like that, ah well. I can tell that Masks this time around aren't going to be like mix-and-match to get powers then they were in 2001 and the only time they will ever change is if they get knocked off. While I do quite like the mask collecting gimmick, I feel that it isn't really needed.
  20. Or rather, if they recolored them and released them in a complete pack of 36 for like $10.
  21. Nah man, I hope that they put out the beams-with-ball, 3L double-cup bones, 3L bones, or 4L bones... some supremely useful pieces. Or at least, if not in stores then online.
  22. I think that the purple studs would look better if there was actual purple elsewhere on the set. My planned mods involve giving him more purple and dark grey to break up the black.
  23. It should be noted that this is probably because PAB walls are used just as often by those who aren't FOLs as those who are. When CCBS was in the buckets I believe that it only lead to a lot of confusion among customers who had little to no idea what it was and how they could use it, and I'm sure Technic is the same way.
  24. Yes, that's it, thank you! It's so odd that they would only release three of the sets, but ah well...
  25. I really hate how close-minded some other fans are, especially in regards to Constraction. I've probably said it before, but last time I went to a convention I got called out for building with Bionicle because 'it is pretty much Megablocks' and 'People who build with Bionicle can never build on the same level [system/Technic] builders can'. It certainly didn't help that out of the 80-or-so people there were only four or five of us into Bionicle. I must say that the visitors loved my MOCs though, so the haters can be proven wrong.
