  1. I think the biggest problem with using system for action figures is stability. I can't find it, but a Creator video for 5764 explained that the model features a technic liftarm on the back to brace it, as brick connections do not hold solidly for something meant to be played with like an action figure. I know that you have had plenty of experience with building figures out of system though, so how has this worked out in practice? On the Mask of Time, I could see them releasing it as an exclusive at a convention or as a polybag, but only if the mold has already been made for another set; as Aanchir has explained, it is not a smart idea to make a mold just for something that will be given out for free.
  2. My Ekimu is currently wearing the Golden Skull Spider, for my own fanon story similar to this that I have mentioned before. Speaking of which, I think it's a shame that only one character uses the Skull Spider mask as an actual mask, because it looks really good.
  3. I noticed that too. Now I want to make a custom using gunmetal parts. No clue what it could mean other than dirty armor (his mask also has a chip on one of the horns and there are still bits of gold visible). I like the scene just prior to this where Pohatu is hanging off of his arm and Tahu is coming up with a makeshift weapon. I am also pretty sure this confirms that their original masks where left behind, as they do not put them back on when their golden masks are taken. Also, Skull Scorpio confirmed for generic mook! And another thing that I have realized is that they have probably made the Skull Army's masks all weird in the animations (ex: Skull Grinder's Quagmire-level chin) to help differentiate between them. Skull Scorpio's mask looks far different from Skull Basher's mask, and the same for Grinder and Warrior.
  4. You've cooked up a couple of ingenious solutions right there! Do you mind if I use those in my mods (with credit)?
  5. I'll see about it when Bricks and Pieces gets them in. I haven't used that service before and I am hoping that it will go well. I finally got around to throwing together an Imgur album of all my Skull Villain WIPs up to this point. Mainly of note is that I made Kulta a weapon that actually fits for his 'Grinder' title that I am quite proud of, the Skull Scorpio I mentioned a few posts back, and the fact that I have made a new villain to counter Gali. I am looking forward to finally getting the sets in hand, even if it may not be for a while for the majority of them. I am unsure about whether I will use the new armor add-on though.
  6. Oddly enough, from what I have seen TRU does not put markups on sets until their release date. I've seen it mentioned before that maybe they have a special agreement that lets them put the sets out a week or two early only if they are at MSRP for that duration of exclusivity.
  7. Which is your favorite out of them? Why had you only gotten Fire and Stone (shush, I'm still learning the names!) until now?
  8. I was about to ask, are the bone-bones 6 modules long? Than I remembered that they already use friction extenders at the hips. You mentioning adding them for length reminds me of an idea I had, that there should be pieces like friction extenders but without the extra friction, made solely to provide more length.
  9. Pretty much like it will when it is a shooter, just without studs on the front. It would look a bit more uniform probably. Sadly, I don't have a bunch of those pieces spare. Since this is my third post in this thread, I guess I might as well give my opinions on the set! Mask Maker- as I have said before, while I was not expecting him to use tons of trans-light-blue bones or that ornate shield, they are certainly welcome additions to the set as they complement him well. Not sure how animation accurate they are though, but considering the wonderful chin on Skull Grinder in the animations I am not sure if I will keep taking those to heart as much. As a set though I am glad that they were able to work in both a gear function and a stud shooter. Skull Grinder- I certainly like him, but he feels the most plain out of all the Skull Villains, not only the most uniform and humanoid but also very gappy. My favorite part of him is using the hubs on the gearbox, as they give him an interesting bit of bulk. Otherwise he seems destined for an overhaul from me.
  10. I am betting that it will be like Time Trap in that it fills in the loose plot ends and wraps up the Skull Spider's influence so that next year can start with a fresh threat and no former villains to worry about.
  11. They don't, sadly. I am using a spare 5L armor in Dark Azure, which works better than the plain blue I had in there as a stand-in.
  12. I've had my own version built for a long time based on the Legend animations, and I can say one thing for sure- that, as a set, the transparent bones look so much better. The thing about Trans-Light-Blue is that it is amazing at capturing the light. Using that color of bones with Gold really brings out a crystalline vibrancy that makes the set gorgeous. I am hoping that when they wake Ekimu up his model more closely matches the set, with differences that can be attributed to his long coma. I agree on the shield! It's a surprising inclusion that I am not regretting at all, because it works for the reasons you said. On the chest armor, they could have easily attached it in a way to make it all fit with minimal parts use and compact enough to work. Once again, I did it on mine with two of these and two of these.
  13. Gosh, Skull Grinder's chin is all over the place. Is chin size still related to ego?
  14. Speaking about remaking Skull Scorpio... Here's my WIP revamp. Now, let me defend this. -The Skull Spider mask is based on my headcanon that Skull Grinder is using the Golden Skull Spider to control the Skull Army. -The humanoid form is also another idea I had, to make him distinct from the Lord of Skull Spiders. -He still has claws instead of normal hands, and I made his claws look like the entirety of his lower arms; he also has claw feet. -The 5L bones are a stand in for the bone-bones and 4L bones are a stand in for the 4L bones from the set. -The technic mechanism will be attached to his back via a balljoint so it can move around.
  15. My first reaction to this was a 'holy hell' said out loud. I LOVE the way that you made this guy bulky. He does indeed look evil, even after you integrated lots of trans-bright-blue into him.
  16. He is a minotaur after all! Again, I don't have him in hand so I can't speak on how the function feels in hand, but I think its floppyness works in its favor and fits for the skeletalness: things are bound to get a bit loose up there considering that you have been dead and decaying for a number of years. Have you tried switching the pins out for ones with friction? I think this set works the best out of the sets in implementing the new armor piece and the trans-neon-orange armor, giving him bulk where he needs it and fleshing (heh) his proportions out in a very appealing way.
  17. Wow, the trans-neon-green looks gorgeous on this guy. And while I appreciate the creation and implementation of a four-armed function, I think it looks a bit jumbled. He is certainly unique and fun though, which I think is something that can be said for all the Skull Villains.
  18. My favorite part of this set is his asymmetry; despite looking like a jumbled mess at first glance, within the context of story (them being half-decayed zombie soldiers) it works super well and represents it the best out of all the Skull Villains. I also like how they gave him both a bow and a spear, which was a thoughtful inclusion. This is the best 'troop builder' set we have gotten out of Bionicle because we looks visually interesting and there a lot of easy ways to customize him. Will this seminar be possibly open to the public? I might need a few of those tips myself.
  19. Even though there seems to be a massive amount of dislike of this set, I really like it. The function is fun and he looks like a good insectoid creature to me. I can understand the complaints against him, but I think he is a great set despite these flaws. Yeah, the difference between the majority of him and the technic mechanism is a bit jarring, but I still think it works with the 'bare-bones' and 'decayed' look of the Skull Villains, same with his legs (which provide a nice and stable base on top of looking like hollow exoskeleton legs). Still my least favorite of the wave, but not by a huge margin.
  20. Yup. Sadly they don't have the instructions up yet though, just pictures of them in the header. Edit: I just came up with a question to ask. Would you have rather the Skull Villains included fully transparent Toa masks instead of the blend that we got? I personally would have, to match with the Trans-Orange Tahu Mask and Trans-Blue Gali Mask we got as promos. I don't have the sets in hand though (and won't for a while sadly), so I can't comment on how the blended masks look in person.
  21. Yeah, thanks for responding to the troll. Thank you VBBN for the reviews! I will have to look at them in the morning, but from what I can tell the photography and writeup is great as always! I wanted to ask if anyone had an inkling of a theory as to why they chose the Skull Scorpio mask as an exclusive giveaway and not some other mask? I am guessing it is possibly in reference to that Miru and that's the best idea I have.
  22. Never understood people who buy Lego sets (or anything for that matter) just to sit on it and sell it off like it's an investment. It's a toy that's meant to be built, played with, broken down and used, etc. When I get these sets, I will be cracking them open and building them (probably impatiently one after the other).
  23. Most likely, given that VBBN is the moderator on the section dedicated to constraction of a very large forum, and has gotten review copies before.
  24. I have had some issues with bricks. I recently pulled down 75003, and when I went to rebuild it today quite a number of bricks had sizeable cracks in them. This has also happened infrequently with a few other pieces. In general, however, I would say that it will be okay.
  25. All of those, as mentioned by TwistLaw, have not met much success if any at all; the only one that seems to get marginal popularity is Tenkai Knights, which even they seem to be on their way out. I feel that Bionicle pretty much stands alone.
