Aussie sales! Share the news of LOCAL sales!
Hewman replied to Darth_Legois's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
To be honest I have very low expectations for boxing day sales just because the sales before xmas have been unprecendented in their range and level of discount. There isn't a lot of lego left on the shelves at many places. Maybe a few stores have a few things put aside specifically for the sales but don't hold your breath, they may be just waiting for next year's lines to come out. -
Although I love the Jester, I don't own it and have never seen it in the 'flesh' or should that be 'yellow'? So I went for the good wizard, I just love the details including the belt buckle, decorations on the hat and the light blue colour, and he makes a great contrast to the evil wizard. Although my fave, the good wizard does lack a little in the wand department having what just looks like a stick, compared to the mighty weapon of the evil wizard with its lightning bolts. Maybe true power doesn't come from the wand, or just maybe the evil wizard would kick the good wizard's butt in a duel.

20% off at Target at the moment, mine had the troll impulse, the coast guard impulse as well as the street sweeper one which I believe are part of the second wave of impulse sets. -
Like many others, I put Eurobricks at the top of my list but what I found most interesting was them asking about 9V trains, was this the only theme to get an individual mention? Perhaps the RC ones aren't selling so well and maybe all is not going according to plan with the new planned to be released train system.

Went to DJ's in Adelaide in my lunch break today and there was a great selection of Lego, and as stated before, it's all 25% off. I was good and only left with a 48x48 grey baseplate for less than $12. For those interested some of the rarer sets available included the bat tumbler which I believe is going for a fortune on ebay right now; the old harbour ship from a year or so ago which I think with discount now comes to less than $100; the most recent hospital from a year or two ago which is $90 before discount (I haven't seen this on the market for ages). I also saw the green grocer set but no cafe corners. Finally my recommendation to anyone that doesn't own it is to get the dwarves mine which is an awesome set (and I'm not big into castle) and it's only $52.50 after discount. Get in quick folks, I can't see the shelves being full for long. -
I'm not a fan but hey, I'm an old dude that didn't grow up with them. I guess they just don't gel with what I traditionally think of as lego with all their rather unique pieces; but hey, it helped Lego's profits when other sales weren't great so I'm not going to bash it.

From a very reputable Australian seller on bricklink: "7641 - City Corner (you mentioned its called 'life' but on my list it is called City corner") I guess this name is slightly more informative than 'life', but not a lot.

Here are some piece counts and prices in Australian $s which have come via a reputable Australian seller STAR WARS: 7748 - Corporate Alliance Tank Droid - 216 Pieces - 40 AUD 7749 - Echo Base - 155 Pieces - 40 AUD 7778 - Millennium Falcon Mid Scale - 60 AUD 8036 - Separatists Shuttle - 257 Pieces - 60 AUD 8037 - Anakins Y-Wing Starfighter - ? Pieces - 100 AUD 8038 - Star Wars Endor Battle Playset - 887 Pieces - ? AUD 8039 - Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser - 1169 Pieces - 230 AUD It looks like we're hitting the 20 cent a piece mark here in Aus, I guess this makes the new Y-wing about 500 pieces and the Endor set $150+ depending on the number of figs. I'm quite happy with the price of the separatists shuttle but I'm not sure what sort of Falcon you get from what will be around 300 pieces.

Shipping varies between sellers, either check their 'splash page' or contact them to find out shipping details. It doesn't work like amazon with set shipping rates.

Photos 1,2,4 and 7 are the ones that show it off best for me. 1 gives a nice overall feel, 2 shows the beautiful curvature of the waterfall as well as a nice view of the rocks, 4 the close-up of the inside really makes me feel like the orcs are marching in with purpose and 7 I just love the look on the crownie's face and the image of the fallen treasure chest. Good luck and let us know how you go.

Mini Heroes Collection series
Hewman replied to BlueBard's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
The best solution to that is to buy some old cheap advent calendars, you'll get a bunch of similar figures and some really cool accesories to go with them. It seems almost every one has at elast one policeman, fireman and construction worker. -
I'm not quite sure what this has to do with pirates. I'm not sure who Ricky Bear is, but I do have Ricky Racoon. Maybe an admin can move this to a relevant part of the forum such as "random stuff that really doesn't add anything to the site" if such exists.

Hey Josh Welcome to Eurobricks from a guy in the state right next door to WA, but probably 5,000 kms from Broome. There are a lot of AUssies here and we have our own discussion thread on Aussie sales which we all tend to update pretty regularly, it's definitely worth a look. Do they have much in the way of department stores up there? You'll have to excuse my ignorance about the N-W of Australia. Anyway here's a link to the Aussie sales thread Aussie sales Cheers Matt

I think this is set 7670 Hailfire Droid & Spider Droid not 7681 Separatist Spider Droid (The TRU exclusive) . ALthough anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. -
In Aus, it's often cheapest to get mine from stores like K-mart, Target, Myer and Big W. They all regularly have sales and between them stock almost everything. Also you save on the ridiculous shipping costs of lego shop at home ($45 for any size order, and that's not express post). The only downside is the sets sometimes come out quicker at shop at home, but it's a small price to pay. I avoid toys r us except if they've got an exclusive I really want or something I want on clearance which isn't that often. Their prices are often above RRP, whereas the other stores regularly have 10-20% off and K-mart and Big W's prices are often lower than RRP at full price anyway. For parts, of course bricklink is the way to go, better range, prices and shipping than shop at home.

Thanks, Tim Bit. It was actually one of the posting after yours saying that there weren't ewoks in the Endor set, and as others have said including myself, that'd just be plain stupid.
-
Now that you've put it with the cement and garbage trucks, I must have it, it goes with those two brilliant sets beautifully.

These minifig lists don't sound particularly believable, even if you ignore the notorious unreliability of brickipedia. Firstly, the Echo Base seems like something that is pretty unnecesary for someone that owns 7666, it's not exactly difficult to build your own bunker out of a bunch of white bricks. As for the Endor set, Endor without ewoks (I know some people would like this) just doesn't seem likely, they were pretty critical in the battle.

How did you like the Clone Wars TV series?
Hewman replied to kill will's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I hadn't even realised it had made it to Australian TV until I stumbled across it on Saturday. I watched for about ten minutes with very low expectations but was pleasantly surprised, it was watchable unlike the old animated clone wars series which I don't think anyone over about 12 could have tolerated. Thankfully my budget I didn't like it quite enough to start feeling the need to collect all the clone wars sets. If you are iffy about watching I suggest giving it a go, you might be pleasantly surprised. -
Sinner beat me to it with the hinges, they date back to the late 1970s that I know of, when I got my first classic space sets. Thanks for the review. I'd taken this set off my wanted list but might have to change my mind, it doesn't look as <insert that tiresome argument> as I was fearing and not too many stickers is good, but I"ll have to try to track down a proper printed road sign of similar style. I get the feeling I may have one from one of my advent calendars.

8158 Speed Racer and Snake Oiler set and a big grey baseplate.

There is a bit of a demand for boxes, particularly older ones and ones from bigger sets. If you buy lots of star wars battle packs, there's probably not a lot of point in keeping the boxes. Have a look on bricklink under 'box entry' for set numbers you have and see what they're worth. Postage tends to be the thing that prevents a lot of sales in boxes, but if you have hard to find ones they are worth selling. Just out of curiosity, which sets/themes do you have boxes for?

Lego have really started to a do a great job with city sets in the past few years and 2009 looks no different, given the pics that are out and the names of the sets. If the tow truck is half as good as the cement mixer or garbage truck I'll be rushing out to get it, they are probably my two fave town sets ever. Those hoping for four-wide vehicles to match their older town sets are probably going to be disappointed, because the only 4-wide vehicles at minifig scale have been in the nostalgia based town plan set.

LEGO custom Starbucks coffee shop on eBay
Hewman replied to Badsneaker's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
The stickers are really nicely done but as someone else pointed out, it does look odd seeing real people on the tv playing baseball instead of lego figs. Besides that the design of the set is just average and would look pretty ordinary when stuck next to the green grocer or cafe corner sets. -
OK, I am totally jealous. The set is beautiful. It's probably a good thing I didn't purchase that set when I had the chance as I don't think I'd be able to find the room to build. And great review by the way!
