  1. Regarding the removal of the names of sets, I can understand Lego's perspective. They want to time the hype to suit their business needs. It doesn't make good business sense to have people excited about these sets when they still have Mars Mission sets that won't be released until October as people will start thinking they'll save their $s (or Euros or whatever) until the new space sets come out. But if the pirates pics are anything to go by, we're going to get some great looking 'classic' style space sets, so I'm saving my money already.
  2. the old blue and white cement mixer. I'd always look at my old catalogs from my classic space sets and thought how beautiful it looked. And then to my delight a year or so, Lego released an ever better blue and white cement mixer.
  3. I wish you were too, and living in Australia, an attractive girl into space lego, what more could a guy ask for?? OK, I kid. Yeah I'd love the two faction thing to happen with these sets but no jelly aliens. Maybe blacktron 1 figs but this time with sneers instead of smiley faces.

    City '09?

The farm and garage are the ones that have got my interest so far. I was hoping for a post office to go with this years post van and plane sets, well there's always 2010 and with the great amount of quality sets lego are putting out it'd be pretty pathetic to complain.
  5. This is just a thought, but perhaps it is the minis listed here and 2009 is a date of a general release 9as opposed to the brickmaster release date) so us that aren't in the US can get them. It does seem a bit odd to have another minifig scale CTT so soon after the last one.
  6. It comes from a guy called "whung" who has an excellent reputation for getting early pics of sets, so chances are it's legitimate.
  7. I think it's a tie, they're both listed as 11:16 am to me, but I'm happy to have someone cancel this thread!
  8. This is taken from a link in the pirates thread listing the 2009 pirate sets. It looks like there's a return of space (not Mars Mission). Woo hoo!! Oh, here's the list of sets EDIT: list removed Let's hope they're like the first incarnation of Space Police, who arrested those evil blacktron dudes (and dudettes, I don't want to be sexist here, women are just as capable of crime as men, ok, so 3 times as many men are in prisons as women...hmmm a bit off topic there!).
  9. This is probably the best review I've ever seen. Why? It put the set in context with people's changing thoughts about it. It commented on the box, why do such expensive sets have such ordinary boxes? The photography was outstanding. Every issue that a builder could have with it was discussed in a calm and rational manner. I have the same issues with technic structured sets, and svelte_corps summed up my feelings on this beautifully. This was an even handed review, so thoughtful. Finally, you gotta love a bit of humour in a review, that gardenis brilliant. I was probably never going to get this set anyway but it sets a new world's best standard for reviews. I strongly encourage anyone that's going to review a set to have a good look at this to see how well it can be done. Thanks for the magnificent review!
  10. 7942 little fire truck and trailer, I got it at 20% off at the Target (Australia) sale, very cute!
  11. K-mart obviously they don't like to get outdone by Target so they also have 20% off lego starting tomorrow...if you have any $s left in your wallet from the earlier sales.
  12. I received three sets in the mail yesterday, 7248 bull-dozer, 7903 Emergency rescue helicopter and the little street sweeper set. The Helicopter is huge and beautiful, the only issue was finding the stickers, Lego had taped them onto the back of the instructions. I guess this stopped any chance of them slipping through a gap in the box.
  13. Robin, there's just something so appealing about the colours to me.
  14. But think of all the money you'll save on shipping by not buying the entire set for around the same price Also this comes with the never seen before minifig of "Ogi-Wan Kemobi", I wouldn't be trusting this person to spell my address correctly if i was stupid enough to buy off them.
  15. For me, the red and white having been around the longest are the senior astronauts, ie those that call the shots, not those that go to bed at 6 pm with their false teeth in a glass beside the bed. Within these, those with the thin chin straps are the most senior (again because this is older lego). The yellow being the most common and cheapest to purchase are your every day astronauts, the grunts that have to do all the work. The blacks being newish and dark are the talented but sometimes rebellious young bucks that like to play by their own rules. The blues fall somewhere between the yellows and blacks. Wow, i think way too much about my lego men. To complicate it further I have some custom light gray, dark gray, green, medium blue and dark purple classic space figs, I have no idea where these fit into the hierarchy, although it cost a lot to get the parts for the old light gray figs, so those two have to rank pretty highly.
  16. Why does this topic have so fewer replies than the one to name your least fave star wars set? I put my hand up for my responses adding to that list, but I will make up for it a little here. In no particular order, the 6212 X-Wing, so sturdy , great wing moving mechanism and to much better scale than the original X-wing, the 6207 A-wing, sleek, so swooshable and movie accurate, well as close as Lego is gona get and the 4500 snowspeeder, it doesn't look big but it is so solid and not a sticker in sight.
  17. Seeing I gave away all my 2001 sets I guess I wasn't too attached to those but I love the year of the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) lego, both my regular and mini knight buses are sensational and I just wish I had the spare funds for a shrieking shack and a motorized Hogwarts Express as well.
  18. I think Lego recognised that there was some problems with the slave 1, if you look at brickshelf under 7153 you will find some instructions to make the modifications needed to make it a much sturdier ship, it only costs a couple dollars at most in pieces to do this.
  19. I agree that there wasn't a lot of play value in the AT-TE but it did look good and was fairly stable, unlike the clone turbo tank which potentially had more playability but I had a lot of trouble with wheels coming off when I played with it, also it was basically a technic set with plates chucked over it and I'm not a big fan of technic. Oh I forgot about the trauma of building the 4504, so many times large parts of it collapsed on me while building, it was a really unenjoyable build and I too sold mine off and opted to get an older 7190 falcon instead.
  20. Are you talking about the new or old Sith Infiltrator? The worst designed set for me was the original (7151 I think) Sith Infiltrator, it kept coming apart in big sections or the stand pieces would fall off. I wasn't that concerned by the blocky look but the falling apart annoyed me so much I sold it as I like to swoosh my ships around rather than just sit them on a shelf. The Wookiee catamaran was a pain as well with the side pieces falling off continually but the clone troopers hovercraft thing in it was awesome.
  21. I have to disagree, it's also black plates and tiles! I think they're a cool idea as a souvenir but as a collectable lego set they don't excite me.
  22. Parts 100% bricklink Sets 30% bricklink 20% 'higher end retailer', myer and David Jones 50% Target and K-mart (usually ahve better deals than Myer or DJs) 0% Ebay!
  23. Single piece hull so that the boat 'really floats' as mentioned by Lego every time they release a boat that actually does float.
  24. I'm not sure about NZ but for Australia at least, Lego shop at home has under the star wars theme a heading saying "new clone wars sets coming July 26" so I think you guys should be the same, which to me implies stores probably have them in the store room waiting for the official release data so maybe it's just 1.5 weeks away for you.
  25. Although I'm not a fan of stickers at all, I always stick them on, but what I do is make sure I buy a spare set for a few years down the track when they inevitable go a bit ordinary. You'd be surprised how cheap and plentiful most sticker sheets on bricklink are if you buy them not long after the set comes out.
