Technically Brick Yellow is just tan, like in the classic Pohatu or the new General Grievous. Chi Vardy uses Sand Yellow, or dark tan. In fact, I wouldn't mind more Sand colors in CCBS (in moderation)—we have Sand Yellow and Jango Fett will include Sand Blue, but Sand Green (the last remaining Sand color) hasn't even appeared in constraction since Ben 10.

My brother analyzed this earlier in the topic. Other than Morro and the four "Ghost Masters", all eleven other names ghosts share only three designs.

Technically it had nine... But considering that two of them were completely absent for the latter two years, I don't know if more than seven would be considered sustainable. Still, I'd be all for a seventh Toa, especially considering that by making them female, the team would have a better gender ratio than any other set-based Toa team has ever had.

Since it wasn't mentioned anywhere in the topic, and I'd like to know before downloading... does this work on Mac? POV-Ray doesn't, and I'd greatly appreciate the ability to do more professional renders of some of my LDD creations. So is this the program I've been waiting for, or should I keep looking?

LEGOLAND Billund Discussion & Photos
Lyichir replied to jacob_uno's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You'll want to make sure that you pick up the Lego House set and the Billund Airport set. The Lego House set is only available at Billund businesses (many of the stores downtown stock it, including stores that don't normally sell Lego), and the Billund Airport set is only available at the departures gate at the airport itself, when you're leaving. The exclusivity of both of these sets makes them highly desirable and likely to increase in secondhand value, and besides that they're great display pieces, on par with the Lego Architecture sets. At Legoland itself, I can highly recommend the Haunted House attraction. It's really neat and as far as I know does not appear at any of the other parks. The Arctic area also has live penguins (and if you eat at the restaurant, it has a window to the back of the enclosure where some of the penguins have babies!) At the back of the Arctic area is an area where the life-size Lego X-Wing Starfighter is currently exhibited. The Atlantis aquarium exhibit is also not to be missed. The shops at Legoland are pretty good, particularly the main shop. When I went there a few weeks ago they had several sets that had not yet been released elsewhere, including the summer Friends and City sets as well as the Ninjago "Airjitzu" spinners (which are great small sets to take back to your hotel room to build if you're staying overnight). -
I think I can safely say that Worlds is doing the opposite of putting LDD on the back-burner. There are plans to allow users to import LDD creations into Lego Worlds as pre-assembled structures that can be placed wherever you want on the map. That kind of tie-in could presumably mean that Lego Worlds will provide an actual revenue stream for LDD, for the first time since the Design-by-Me service ended. In fact, it's entirely possible that Lego Worlds IS responsible for LDD being late, but for the opposite reason you suspect. LDD being used in a major gaming project like this would likely provide a new impetus to move forward on the next core version of LDD, as opposed to a simple brick update like we have been getting for the past few years.

Tomorrow will be Monday, June 1st. As the start of both a new week and a new month, it would seem like a good day for an update. At least, I would hope so—I don't know if we've ever had to wait this long for the spring update before. Things like this make me wish Lego Digital Designer had some sort of "dev blog" where they could post about things like LDD tips and tricks, stories about what they do and how they do it, and news about updates, both when they're available and when they're in the works. As it is, the total lack of communication makes the wait practically unbearable. I have a few ideas as to WHY the update is taking so long, but it would greatly soothe my worries if we were to get some sort of confirmation one way or another.

Just gonna pop in and point out that "UCS" doesn't really apply to themes like Pirates—it really only refers to large-scale replicas of vehicles or characters from movie licenses. The term you're looking for is "D2C", or "Direct to Consumer". That's the term for any (generally large and expensive) set sold primarily through Lego's official channels like the Lego online shop or Lego Brand Retail, including sets like the Creator Expert series as well as themed sets like the Haunted House, Medieval Market Village, or Imperial Flagship.

Old Bionicle parts you'd want to see brought back for Gen 2?
Lyichir replied to Takanuinuva's topic in LEGO Action Figures
The biggest issue with the socket column, as far as I'm concerned, is the fact that adding a friction joint to it makes it unappealingly tall (as seen in Tahu, Master of Fire as well as Furno XL from 2013). But that's not something old feet were generally any better about—the only Bionicle foot piece with an ankle that was any lower was the Hordika foot, which had its own issues and would not allow for the attachment of friction joints anyway. A new foot piece with a molded socket 1M lower could fix this issue, but I don't know whether there would be enough sets that need a piece like that to justify its existence. -
Cthulhu-like squid people in the seas around Ninjago? Dragon people? I think there are still plenty of possibilities for villains.

The symbol-less headwrap on Lloyd might not even be final, guys. Do note that the parts visible in the cutout of the cover include printed legs, whereas the legs on the fig in the mech are unprinted. It's too early to tell exactly what the finalized fig for that set will look like.

Old Bionicle parts you'd want to see brought back for Gen 2?
Lyichir replied to Takanuinuva's topic in LEGO Action Figures
See, I can see wanting different feet than the 2.0 feet. But why would you want the bestial-looking Inika foot back when the large beast foot from Invasion From Below pulls off that look so much better, and isn't yet available in as many colors? -
I seriously doubt the Skreemers can be cast in rubber, I doubt they'll ever appear in Bionicle, and I am pretty much certain that the spring missile launcher will never include the ability to connect parts to the tip (modification of the tips of high-powered ammo is a massive safety hazard, which is why there's never been any such capability on any launcher stronger than a flick-fire). More likely—the person who came up with those descriptions was just making things up, probably basing the features on things like the already revealed Star Wars constraction sets that we already knew about in order to make their fake leaks seem more plausible.

Who is your Favorite Ninjago protagonist?
Lyichir replied to DuckBricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Zane is definitely my favorite protagonist. He was already compelling when he was just the quirky, Spock-like ninja with a mysterious past, and he's only become more compelling after his reveal that he was essentially a robot learning how to be human. As a person on the autism spectrum, I can really relate to his social difficulties as well as his drive to do good and maintain friendships in spite of them. Favorite secondary character was harder, but I ended up voting for Dareth. He's such an amazing bumbler (pretty much the Larry Butz of Ninjago). And yet he frequently reveals hidden depths as well, from when he commanded the Stone Army to last season when he revealed a preternatural skill for makeup and costuming. He's a real wild card, and whenever he shows up in the story you know things are about to get ridiculous. -
I imagine in that case both games may have been rolled into "Lego Battles" for the Nintendo DS, which had Castle, Space, and Pirates levels.

Hmm... wonder what this could be? Hopefully more information will show up soon...

Why is LEGO now being made in China?
Lyichir replied to 9v system's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Bless you, Faefrost. You've pretty much summed up the entirety of my issue with the hysteria over "cheap Chinese plastic". So much of it is based on paranoia and prejudice, and so few of the actual facts back up those claims. -
2016 action theme?
Lyichir replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Keep in mind that "action theme" is a term almost entirely defined by the EB community, and largely means "story-based themes that are not City, Castle, Pirates, or Space". In that sense, a Castle theme will never be an action theme, despite several such themes having distinct similarities to the typical "action theme" formula (like Fright Knights, Knights Kingdom I and II, Vikings, and even Fantasy Castle). Personally, I wouldn't mind a traditional Castle theme that was more story-driven. Something like a King Arthur-like court of named knights on a distinct quest—like KK2 but with a more traditional feel. -
So Legoland Billund has all the new Airjitzu sets. I got Cole. It's a pretty great set, and I'm ridiculously excited for what I can do with the spinners. I'll probably do a review of it for The New Elementary.

Yowza! I've never seen CCBS shells chromed before. I doubt Lego would ever do it officially, of course, because surface treatments are probably not a great choice for parts that will be under that kind of stress when assembled/disassembled. Pohatu certainly looks cool, though honestly all that chrome kind of makes his non-chrome parts look pretty dull—particularly the fluorescent bones, which are normally some of the most energetic parts of his color scheme but here just look glassy.

Old Bionicle parts you'd want to see brought back for Gen 2?
Lyichir replied to Takanuinuva's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I think bringing back at least one Bohrok shield would be a good thing. There are surprisingly few 5M round parts besides those, and they were great for small shields (or as armor or detailing on larger models). We certainly don't need twelve of them, though—one would be plenty! My vote would go to the Gahlok Kal shield, which was the last one to be used in sets (in the Bionicle Stars for the golden shield) and is generic enough that it could be used for plenty of applications. But the original Pahrak shield might be better, because of its more mechanical look and multiple connection points. Besides that, some of the other suggestions, like that Y-joint, are great ideas. Others, like older limb pieces... not so much. -
REVIEW: 70165 Ultra Agents Mission HQ
Lyichir replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I'm also a bit disappointed by the low fig count, less because of the value of the set and more because it connects to another way I preferred the original Agents theme. The classic theme is what I'd consider maybe the most triumphant example of "sets telling a story". With that in mind, the Mobile Command Center's larger number of figs offered much more storytelling potential. There were enough seats for all four Agents to be hard at work, and enough vehicles for all four to leave the truck for missions, and the story didn't "end" when Dr. Inferno was captured—rather, the set also included Gold Tooth and Spy Clops so that they could break him out of prison! This set includes the same number of agents as the classic set, but only half as many small vehicles for them to use. And even with a giant mech, Terabyte is just one villain, and once the threat he presents is neutralized there aren't many other play scenarios offered by this set alone. -
LEGO® Games are Inspirational
Lyichir replied to Demetreous's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I think you might be confused, because I'm kind of saying the opposite of that. While I do love when things are 100% built out of Lego, these days I appreciate the creative freedom granted by things like the Ninjago cartoon, where there aren't many visible "bricks". That animation style may be less inspiring as far as building techniques are concerned, but at the same time it makes it easier for me to put my own spin on the vehicles and settings which don't appear in sets, instead of getting frustrated by not having the right part in the right color to build them "correctly". Part of what I liked about classic games like Legoland or Rock Raiders was that the low-res graphics offered the best of both worlds—the buildings and vehicles were very clearly brick-built, but the actual builds were pixelated enough that it was easy enough to make the necessary substitutions without dramatically changing the overall "look". Of course, it'd be impractical to expect a TV series or modern console game to make do with '90s video game graphics! -
LEGO® Games are Inspirational
Lyichir replied to Demetreous's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I agree with this sentiment. I used to love MOCing based on games like Rock Raiders, Legoland, Alpha Team, and even the Mata Nui Online Game for Bionicle. Heck, even when The Lego Movie came out, I spent a lot of time trying to reverse-engineer Emmet's apartment (largely so I could try to get a better feel for the layout, and shrink the interior down to fit the modular exterior). Of course, by the same token, it always frustrated me when a video or game like that featured a non-existent recolor, or a non-existent part variant (like some of the parts in Lego Racers). When I could see the parts so clearly, I wanted to build them exactly as they appeared, regardless of how feasible that was! For that reason, I do now appreciate non-brick-based Lego media like the Ninjago cartoon, since the fact that the parts AREN'T as clearly defined means it's easier to make do with existing parts. -
Well, to be specific, Titanium Metallic is "gunmetal" from 2010 and later years. The previous "gunmetal", Dark Gray Metallic, was significantly less dark and had a warmer, almost olive-colored tint to it (rightly so, since it was introduced as a sort of metallic counterpart to the OLD dark gray). Considering Makuta is likely responsible for the "revival" of the Skull Villains, it's not unlikely that he rebuilt some of them for his own purposes—which would, incidentally, make him a bit more like the classic Makuta, who was by trade less of a craftsman and more of a mad scientist.
