In two days, it will have been exactly one year since the last version update of LDD. In four days, it'll have been a year since the last brick update. Just thought I'd let y'all know.

Ninjago: Masters Of Spinjitsu TV Show Thread

We don't technically know what sort of limits Skylor has on her power. It's possible that, unlike Lloyd, her Amber power doesn't allow her to combine the various elements she's acquired.- 4,591 replies

So it looks like the prison island set may be the first set to use the 1x3x2 inverted half arch other than the Ferris Wheel that it debuted in. It seems to appear in Medium Stone Grey for the lower half of the sewage pipe escape route. I was just noticing the other day that no other sets had used that part, so I'm glad to see it's finally being used again.

No. When minifigures hold a weapon in front of them (as with the spinners), they don't have to hold it perfectly horizontal. When one of a minifig's arms is higher than the other, the angle of those combined with the angle of the hands allows them to hold a weapon securely in two hands. This doesn't work the same way when a fig needs to hold onto a horizontal handlebar, since there's no way for their hands to achieve the right angle. That's why parts like motocycle or bike handlebars are angled—it's the only way a fig can grip tightly to both of them while still remaining in a secure standing or seated position.

I hadn't realized that Jay's elemental dragon would use Metalbeard's beard on its lower jaw! In dark blue, to boot. That's pretty cool.

Keep in mind he was looking at his reflection. Future or not, it'd be mirrored.

In addition to what my brother said, it is possible to order sets from the Lego shop over the phone, if you're more comfortable with that. At least, you can in the U.S., don't know if it's the same in other countries...

Stafford Engines is a brand that first appeared in Agents (named after Lego designer Mark Stafford) and reappeared on the uniform of the CMF Race Car Driver. Another "flaming wrench" logo also appears on the CMF Race Car Driver, Mechanic, and Motorcycle Mechanic, but I don't think we know a brand name associated with it. The actual "City" logo (from Lego City) appears to be an automobile brand in the Lego City theme, as evidenced by its recent prevalence on the grills of cars and trucks. Those are all I can think of at the moment.

Guys, we all know who Jay loves the most: Nya. So clearly, Nya is Jay's dad. And because incest tends to sink most ships, we can probably assume Cole is Jay's mom. They're time travelers. I can't see a single thing wrong with this theory.- 4,591 replies

That's okay. Until now, I hadn't noticed that the dragon polybag had a new style of Mixel joint! 2x1 with one towball on the short end. Should be useful!

Technically speaking the actual Nexo Knights sets were revealed a few days earlies, at New York Comic Con. But I get what you're saying.

I recognize that. I was just pointing out that the opinions of Bionicle fans are almost always going to be skewed toward "more masks", compared to the public at large, which has significantly less interest in the idea of collectible masks. I would also love a wider selection of mask colors, but saying mask packs are a good idea over and over doesn't make it so, and unless the Bionicle theme experiences a sudden rise in popularity, I don't see that status quo changing much in the near future.

Well, yes... but you're a Bionicle fan. The thing about the minifigure packs is that there's something for fans of pretty much EVERY theme, or even for people who don't buy other Lego or haven't in years. I've read plenty of stories about adults who got back into Lego as a direct result of having sought out a must-have figure of one of their interests or professions, and that reigniting their interest in the brand. Whereas to a person who doesn't collect or build with Bionicle sets and parts, a Bionicle mask is just a fairly useless hunk of plastic, and there's nothing a mask pack could really offer them that would make them willing buy one or more packs just to get any one specific mask.

Technically speaking, Lego DID sell resealable pouches that required scissors to open, with the Hero Factory packages in 2012 and subsequent years. In fact, they won an award for that packaging design. However, there's a significant difference in that that packaging REPLACED boxes for those sets (rather than being stored inside traditional or more durable boxes). They've also switched back to boxes for the revival of Bionicle (hexagonal boxes, but boxes nonetheless), and while I don't know their reasoning (and preferred the resealable bags, personally), I'm sure they had a good reason for abandoning that packaging style.

We've been over this. It's a castle theme because it has castles, knights, wizards, jesters, and will probably continue to introduce more castle-inspired vehicles, characters, and structure as the theme continues. It's not a historic theme, or a medieval theme, but that doesn't disqualify it from being a castle theme. Now, Eurobricks doesn't consider it one because its Castle themes are rolled up into "historical" with radically different themes like Western and even Licensed themes like Lord of the Rings. So like so many other borderline cases, it goes into action themes, which is slowly but surely gobbling up all the themes Castle fans don't want. Look at Elves, which is pretty much high fantasy but was shifted to Action themes because it has an actual story (though Knights Kingdom II made an effort at the same), portals from "our world" (though I'm sure a Chronicles of Narnia theme would be accepted here just as easily as Lord of the Rings was), and probably because girls have cooties. I mean, I don't mind having most of the themes I like in one subforum, don't get me wrong. But I can't help but get the impression that if Castle fans keep rejecting any new theme that diverges even slightly from tradition, they're going to be waiting a long time for new sets to discuss.

The mirror isn't cardboard, is it? I had gotten the impression that it was an actual mirror. In any case, it's definitely a new element—and I'm honestly surprised it hasn't been reused. It's sized perfectly to fit in 1x4x6 window frames, and would be much better for themes like Friends than the much less impressive foil stickers they normally use.

I agree, and that's the source of what's pretty much my only complaint about the new Lewa—I feel like his color scheme would be cooler if it had a contrasting color like red. And while you could work in red parts easily (perhaps switching the admittedly-luscious Trans. Bright Green Bohrok eyes for red ones), I feel like the chest plate in particular would look better with a contrasting color for the Nuva symbol. I'll definitely be trying a few mods/revamps next year—I don't dislike the sets, but there are aspects of them all that I think could be better, and based on the apparent versatility of some of the new parts I think there are definitely things I could do about them.

Hence "reverse-engineer" rather than "build from instructions". I obviously won't be able to get very far without instructions, or at least high-res pics, but I find it to be a helpful way to focus in on the pictures we have and try to pick out details. I often notice things that way that I wouldn't necessarily notice when focused on the set as a whole.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15 Rumors and Discussion
Lyichir replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Ew, toenail mold... I think you can get medication for that, at least. -
As cool as that would be, Lego doesn't really have anything to gain from that—it'd only serve to sabotage demand for future sets with sails, since people would be able to easily print and cut out their own sails with whatever shape and pattern they want.
-
Recently I started trying to reverse-engineer Misfortune's Keep on LDD, and it's given me an even greater appreciation for it. I hadn't previously noticed neat features like the use of ship's masts for connecting the tail fin, or the rollcage made of scimitars.

The funny thing is, it kind of WAS, at least in the earliest concepts. It was envisioned as a sort of "future fantasy" akin to He-Man or Thundercats. The mechanical-looking armor of the action figure sets even looked like a sort of power armor, and the transforming function of the prototype castle was much more complex than the final version, where only a few panels got turned around. To be honest, I sometimes think the theme might have been better received if it had opted more for the science fantasy route, instead of trying to "have it both ways" and posing as a traditional medieval fantasy theme when there was already so much setting it apart from that genre.
-
Firstly, because Nexo Knights IS a castle theme as far as Lego is concerned. It has knights, horses, castles, dragons, wizards, jesters... pretty much all the trappings of a castle theme. It may not be a historic theme or a traditional medieval-fantasy theme, but those are not categories Lego uses in the first place. Secondly, because the Lord of the Rings theme probably hadn't been selling too well (given the plummeting number of sets each year), and the introduction of Nexo Knights wouldn't do anything to make Lord of the Rings more viable than it had been before.

I can see the difference, but I greatly prefer the version in the set... both for Makuta and in general. The one in the animations felt unfinished, like someone just cobbled a pair of horns onto Makuta's mask from Mask of Light. The new one feels much better suited to be a counterpart to the ornate Mask of Creation, as far as I'm concerned.
