Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion
Coca-Cola replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
this. The shape of his head isn't the defining look of his character and wouldn't be passed off as a generic pirate or one from PotC without it. His defining parts are the stubble, the worn out eyes, his outfit etc. He may need a new mould for his hat/ hair but i'd take that over a full head mould anyday. the human characters need to be normal minifigures and the tricked out non-human ones e.g. Mickey, Bing Bong etc. need moulded heads. they just wouldn't look right together without them. Not going to argue that's just my opinion. I just want this series to be served justice as these characters are literally some of my favorite- 4,155 replies

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion

That's a possibility i suppose but it wouldn't sit right with me. i mean look at this picture. http://www.diszine.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/GleeStar-500x380.jpg Hook looks ridiculously out of place here something that when translated to LEGO would just look awful. I'm stubborn and still hold my stance that it would be stupid for TLG to spend money on moulds that won't even look good.- 4,155 replies

Same thing as to the other guy.. this is a LEGO fanbase website. Not everyone here follows the movie news and photo releases as closely as someone like me or you. I mean. I agree it's something most fans should know by now.. but like the mainstream trailers haven't shown Lex bald and this simply isn't a collection of people eager for the new movie. It's new news for a lot of people.. Does anyone have any assumptions for pricing in Australia, or even a proper US price i could compare with? I'm guessing maybe $60au but the amount of figures and size of that box has me worried it could be another $100 set.

I mean other than the fact a photo of this was on the first few pages.. this is a LEGO fan website. You know where fans of LEGO come to talk about LEGO. Considering it isn't shown clearly in a trailer or anything yet, expecting a LEGO fanbase to know what a Batwing that hadn't even really been properly revealed yet looked like, seems a bit much.

Lego UCS-MOC: Batman™ Arkham Knight ''Batmobile''

Judging by the look of the wheel and how much work you say you've put into designing this, I must say I'm excited to see the end result! How long do you you think it will take you to complete it? -
[MOC] Batmobile - Batman's vehicle from 1989 + mini-diorama Gotham
Coca-Cola replied to Kalais's topic in LEGO Licensed
This is really nice! I'm absolutely loving the tower in the background especially, because it fits Gotham's style and works with the Batmobile really well. I'm not sure what but something about the actual vehicle makes me uneasy.. it may be how the wheels are different in the back than to how they are in the front (I know I have real bad OCD and nit-pick the silliest things), but it doesn't take away from much and is still an amazing build! Well done! -
considering he unfortunately didn't appear last year with the rest of the new 52 variants and the new 52 ended earlier this year after Convergence and Superman is revamped with a new suit and blah blah the chances of LEGO going back and using that suit when they could stick with the one they have now or give him a current appearance seems real slim.. but i totally agree with the stance of getting better characters before D-listers.. While I agree he most likely is a TRU exclusive I wouldn't rule out a S@H exclusive or a game preorder bonus.. remember LEGO Batman 3 was announced in May and released by November i think.. so if something similar were to happen the timing for this minifigure to show up could be justified. while it's extremely unlikely, stranger things have happened.

lego will skimp out on a crossbones helmet same way they did with deathstroke and beetle and captain america etc. and i can see how giant man could be done without new moulds. it wouldn't be ideal but it certainly isn't a necessary mould by any means. blank panther will most likely get a new mould for his helmet, i mean come on.. while war machine hasn't even been confirmed for these sets has he? same with hawkeye? this is all speculation so lets maybe take and continue this conversation in that thread? not to be the one with a stick up his a** but it's getting frustrating opening this thread in hopes of factual information or discussion about such but getting nothing but speculation time after time again... -
Future Marvel Superheroes Rumors & Speculation
Coca-Cola replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
for once i actually agree with winter soldier. i think polybags should really be characters people won't mind missing out on because most polybags aren't easily available worldwide. I think army building is best with CMF but Marvel won't ever get one of those series without working a deal with Hasbro so i guess we are out of luck there.. Back to proper future speculation though with the abundance of FOX Marvel characters appearing on the big screens next year (Gambit, Deadpool, practically all the X-men excluding Wolverine) I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a few characters popping up in the summer wave (obviously in their comic book attires). I mean yes, they did skip out on Fantastic Four and yes, Marvel and FOX are having a bit of a spat, but i mean with 3 movies from the latter studio TLG would be missing a huge opportunity to indirectly cash in on them. Even if it is just like one character thrown into a random set... like, i could see it happening, maybe even a comic Quicksilver because he is sure to be a more popular character in the new x-men and he was in disney's mcu so like.. i don't know. Any thoughts or guesses?? -

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion

http://www.russellheimlich.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/homer-in-html-css.png http://www.easydrawingtutorials.com/images/PeterPan/peter-pan-thumb.jpg ok. look at the profiles. Peter Pan (and most other disney characters) look. like. humans. Homer (and many if not all simpsons characters) look very cartoony and stylised. The regular renditions of the simpsons minifigures used in the episode i guarantee was simply because it was easier to animate the face of something 2D on a flat minifigure face than animate a 3D sculpted head. The moulded head was going to be the route for that series long before the episode, and tbh i like them more because they looked like the simpsons should. as someone else said look at TMNT. there are moulded heads for the turtles. but a minifigure head for April. yet you can still tell which April O'Neal you have because the printing and hairpiece matched. The Nick cartoon was very distinct in it's animation style but did that stop lego? The same will be done here. Disney looks like an animated interpretation live action rather than just a cartoon. Yes some characters (Ursula for example) would be difficult to recreate with just a minifigure head, but even then like. as long as it's a purple and black sea-witch with tenticles and white hair whether or not it's pulled off right (and again i trust lego 100%)... it will look distinctly like Ursula. Which is why it would be real stupid of LEGO to spend money on moulds when majority of the characters look human unlike the Simpsons or Ninja Turtles or whatever else..- 4,155 replies

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion
Coca-Cola replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
dude c'mon, theres like no argument here. I see what your saying i do, it's just wrong. the chance LEGO gives regular characters sculpted heads is low, not to mention it would suck. I mean really... You want characters like (for example) Aladdin and Mulan to have moulded heads? really? the simpsons don't look exactly human, they are very much cartoony in their appearance. Disney most times looks like an animated live action and could easily translate well to minifigs without the sculpted head. with non-human characters (Baloo, Mickey) they would use a moulded head, you want to know why? It makes the most sense. and i can see why they did it with Buzz and Woody too, they don't exactly look super human.. they are toys... It would be a waste to give Pan, Hook or whoever else a sculpted head because as i said, it wouldn't look as good and new moulds are expensive. EDIT: plus the nose or shape of the face is hardly what makes most disney characters distinct. so long as the printing and extra parts (hairpiece, capes etc.) are used properly it will look plenty distinct. Like if Peter has the bright green tights and the elf hat with accurate enough printing... like whether or not the head is shaped right or if it's using a regular minifig head you can tell it's Peter Pan from the disney film (again supposing they do it right, which they should, I see no problem)... its gonna be all good.- 4,155 replies

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion
Coca-Cola replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Many licensed characters have distinctive noses and look fine without them when translated to a LEGO minifigure (DC's Penguin, and like every dwarf from Middle Earth being most memorable). I would be disappointed if TLG gave us moulded heads for characters like Captain Hook. There is simply no need for it.- 4,155 replies

Guys that robin from Arkham Asylum Breakout??? If I'm not mistaken it could be the same as the regular sets. The Arkham set i mentioned was a D2C (and while it isn't UCS it's just under that price range and fits into the expensive side of TLG) and that is retired.. although I wouldn't be surprised either if it were to stick around a little longer. It's all a matter of how much demand there is for the set in another year or so.. which is a hard thing to predict. EDIT: actually I can't remember if Arkham was D2C or not but it's still an expensive set that wasn't sold regularly with the rest of the wave.

Thats a cool fact. But if you read my earlier posts you can see that I said Disney, comic book heroes, star wars etc. was what sells well in a toy store and is sold on masses. In comic/ game shops they sell Doctor Who merch the same way they would Walking Dead. Like yes, it's big and beloved franchise but nothing in sales compared to the Avengers and Frozen. I only used compared Doctor Who to Simpsons when talking about the CMF sets, stating the brighter, more child friendly appearance would be more appealing to those who didn't know either DW or Simpsons. Having lived in the States for a while and coming home just 2 years ago, I know for a fact that superheroes and disney dominates doctor who with their merch. First off, we aren't being sarcastic, pessimistic maybe, but "real" would be the word you're looking for. Second, lets not pretend most of the shows fans, me included, went back all the way to the first doctor. Majority of us started with the ninth, wikipedia'd the rest and maybe watched clips on youtube of the interesting parts you read about. 50 years of content with only 10 years being deemed important by the non-diehard fans. Not everyone is a die hard fan like yourself and wouldn't want to shell out 40 bucks on characters they won't recognise. If it doesn't include a 9th-current doctor chances of the set selling well compared to anything is a gamble. And there is a large and portion of children, globally who don't even know who the doctor is. Everyone knows the Avengers. Everyone has seen Batman. If not the comics, than the movies or cartoons, toys, games, billboards etc. etc. Maybe a Doctor Who theme would dominate Superheroes in the UK exclusively but saying it would sell more than Marvel and DC worldwide is ridiculous even for a fanboy. And in the 50 years of content there isn't much that they can turn into a set. The Tardis. And then what? Another Tardis? Dude i don't think you realise how much i want sets. I do really want a fully blown theme from this, heck it may inspire me to watch the original 40 years of content. But as my original post said I personally can't see it happening for the reasons i think i have made clear enough.. If that upsets you that i expressed my (pessimistic) view on the matter I'm sorry. But I just can't see it happening. Now lets put this to rest. I didn't mean to start a debate on here, we are all going to have opinions that collide in everything that exists, you know? Lets have a friendly conversation about Doctor Who like Mr. Sir Gareth intended when he started this mighty fine thread.
-
Dude don't even attempt to say Doctor Who is more popular with children than Simpsons. I like DW more. But i didn't know he exsisted until i moved here. I grew up on simpsons. My family watched it. My friends watched it. My friends even had video games of the simpsons. And there are so many good set ideas that could come Doctor Who. But don't let your personal feelings cloud the reality, I mean it's a cartoon family sit com played at prime time. i guarantee (in Australia) a child is more likely to recognise Homer than the Doctor. And i didn't mean the characters were boring or dull. They are interesting, just not visually intriguing. And yes there are exceptions but they are either very vague/ underused characters or nowhere near as bright and inviting as the yellow cartoony look from simpsons or the actual CMF characters with the assortment of characters in there. Captain Jack and the whole mythology is incredibly fascinating but again. the majority of kids who don't watch the show and don't know the characters would much rather a cool gorilla suit guy than a guy with a scarf and a cool hat. The superheroes and disney themes are also more popular. There are a handful of disney and comicbook movies that these children have most likely seen over Doctor Who. Go in to the toy section of a store and what licences do you see? Superheroes, disney and star wars etc. Doctor Who is also not exactly marketed to 5-10 year olds. neither is Simpsons but dr. who has scarier, creepier scenes. There are always going to be kids who know of a show ahead of their age groups but c'mon. weeping angels are terrifying, the scariest thing simpsons have is mr. burns. It might be different in the UK but here and in America (where i lived in for 12 years and never even knew doctor who exsisted) wouldn't sell well to children. Lego wants to make money. Not make a group of AFOL's happy. Don't get upset because I gave an opinion on Doctor Who you didn't agree with. I love DW. I do. I personally just cannot it see it moving forward from a business stand-point. Thats my opinion.
-
I hate to say it, but I honestly don't see more Doctor Who products in future unless it becomes more mainstream with kids. Remember LEGO has a target audience of children, so a CMF series or even a theme sounds ridiculous. Simpsons are well known and recognisable amongst children (because what child doesn't know the Simpsons?), plus their characters have such a bright colour palate which again is appealing to the target audience. Doctor Who wouldn't work in a CMF series because their characters are lacking in colour and creativity. You have the grey Cybermen. The black and white Silent. And the onslaught of boring civilian dressed characters. A child doesn't know how who Jack Harkness is, nor do they care. So when they get him or any other dull character over a guy in a pig suit or a Homer or whatever else, they'll be let down and use his pieces for another character, something i think someone else in this forum said they'd do too. And with sets, I mean come on. An 8 year old isn't going to look in the LEGO isle and beg for the Doctor Who set over the Batman or the Princess or Simpsons or Pirates etc. etc. I'd love to get more Doctor Who content but the reality is it's not appealing to kids, and LEGO's priority is keeping their target audience happy. Although saying that, I can see more character's appearing in Dimensions packs maybe... The best way for LEGO to handle this license from their point of view (which is remember making money) is to keep Doctor Who into these exclusive little stand alone sets and out of the content kids see on shelves. Hate to be the pessimist but let's be real guys.

Future Marvel Superheroes Rumors & Speculation

we can only hope i guess also with ultimate spider-man ending what do people think is going to happen with spider-man sets? would he just be in MCU based sets or comic based or like maybe they'd just get rid of him for a bit.... any thoughts?
