LEGO Nexo Knights 2017 Discussion
x105Black replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Obviously not without question, as the above posts indicate, but I wanted to throw my voice in with theirs. The Lava Monsters were better all around, and I personally find them more useful for my purposes as well. So they still haven't put Gargoyles in a Castle theme, they've put them here... The Lava concept is a bit tired, although that was the best I've ever seen LEGO handle it. The Red / Black concept is also rather tired, but as someone mentioned above, it is iconic. It's often my favorite color combination, and in that sense, I may find more to like about Ninjago this coming year. So I think the new rock pieces would have looked better in last year's colors. I'll admit that these new creatures come from a new and interesting place, but I would have preferred separate Lightning and Rock factions. A Rock faction with a dark grey color for the rock pieces would be fantastic. It would still have elements of fantasy (being rock monsters), but it would also be grounded in reality. The current blue / purple color scheme is odd, and I don't think it works that well (despite the fact that I think both sand blue and dark purple are seriously underused colors in Castle LEGO). -

So I finished First Lensman. It was a good story. Now I'm reading Foundation's Edge by Asimov. So far, so good. I have been thoroughly enjoying this series. Great stories, and so well written.

I watched Drowning Mona again. Love this movie. Seen it twice in the last couple weeks. Of course, that's because I work in broadcasting, and it was on twice while I was at work, but it's still great.

As much as I think the 40th anniversary will be (or should be) a big deal, I'm already looking forward to the 50th anniversary in 2027. But I am really curious how they will celebrate next year. I'm hoping for some high quality polybags.

If so, it will probably be a less detailed version. That is the case with Boba Fett, after all. It's unfortunate.

I'm just about to finish First Lensman. I really enjoy the story and characters. The writing is not as good as other authors I've read lately, though, and I prefer the more adventurous story of Triplanetary to this story, which is more based on espionage and intrigue. E. E. "Doc" Smith has great ideas, and I'll probably continue this series later. Not sure what I'll read next, though.

How is this any more childish than the 2016 sets? -
Technically, Legends wasn't canon. It was expanded universe. It was a lower tier of canon already, and could have been overridden at any time by a higher tier.

I would imagine the Strongman would have the mustache in black, as most images I find share that trait. I'd also expect him to be wearing a striped outfit. The Butterfly Suit Girl should have a new (printed) wing mold. I also imagine that this will be a child with short legs, but I hope I'm wrong.- 1,421 replies

Stone Stomper looks like he might be a fairly useful minifigure. Yeah, that looks like Nexo Knights. I look forward to seeing the lightning bolts and Gargoyle wings used in a new Castle theme in the future. Those pieces look nice. I believe they will also be in the new modular building. It looks like there are new parts on the legs as well. But I'm mostly excited about the visors, of course. -
Today I watched Drowning Mona. What a fantastic dark comedy. I love this movie.

Well, I actually own the other Jestro. I love the red and purple color scheme, he was one of the best looking minifigures in the theme. I cannot say the same for this new version. -
I watched the movie Foxes, with Jodie Foster. It was good.

That would be better than what I've seen, by a wide margin. -

I'm not a fan of this new look for Jestro. -
I found Starship Troopers to be a great movie, once I accepted the satire and comedy.

Not exactly. But I prefer minifigures from any theme that fit well into the traditional Castle aesthetic as I see it, or have parts that are useful to me in those situations. For instance, I like the Hawkeye design from Marvel sets, and I like the Phasma design from Star Wars. Both will work well within my world (or at least, parts of them will work well). Heck, I even have several Ash Attacker torsos and legs from Nexo Knights. This version of Lance offers me nothing, whereas the last version offered me a nice visor, so I prefer the last version. Simple as that. It definitely has that Ice Planet, science fiction feel. -
To answer the question in the title, yes. It is well known around these parts that I really don't like Nexo Knights, and it irks me greatly that this is what is on the shelves in lieu of other great themes like Castle and Pirates. I also haven't witnessed it selling well in my area. A licensed He-Man theme would have been much better, but also very different. I would love to see it, though. Warhammer might be closer to what they were aiming for, though. They missed the mark by a wide margin.

I'd really like to play a LEGO Castle game. Maybe something that takes the player through some of the more popular themes, starting with Classic Castle, moving through the 80's & early 90's (with Forestmen, Wolfpack, Dragon Masters, Crusaders, and Black Falcons), then into Kingdoms, and ending at 2013 Castle. That would be fun.
