In the prelim box pic, there is a small grey circle to the right of the stair. That circle is braced between two rings. So there might be some roller bearings indeed. And why is the metal hook so coveted? I'm just curious.

Can someone test if the ball joints in Bionicle work as roller bearings?

@allanp Does using roller bearings bring any advantages compared to using caster wheels in the BWE?

Assuming the distance between two rings is 1L, what part can fit into that and serve as ball bearing?

There are one gear box in the superstructure and one in the undercarriage, and calling the one in the undercarriage "a second one" would be more apt I think.

There are two things that bug me: 1. Why two XL turntable rings? The model doesn't look too much heavier or bigger than 42055, and 42055 uses 1 ring just fine. 2. How does the motorized slewing work? The motor is in the superstructure, but the switch is in the undercarriage. My guess is that there are 2 concentric transmissions down the turntable, like those in the 42070 crane.

42083 - Bugatti Chiron

Question: Will this be another technically inauthentic and emotionally letdown like 42056 -
There's one thing about the 42030 that I don't recall having seen in this forum yet: the front part is frustratingly hard to disassemble. Since pieces with axle holes tend to snap, I have to partially disassemble the model occasionally to replace the broken parts. And for some reasons beyond my comprehension, the designer decided to lock everything in a way that is very hard to undo. So I want to share some mods that make maintenance easier: 1. Replace 6L axle with 7L axle. Doing so will give you a 1L axle sticking out, and makes removing this subassebly easier. The part sticking out can be covered with a 7L or 11L liftarm in yellow. It would help cover the LBG color of the frame also. 2. Use 4L axle with stop instead. This way when you pull the 2x4 L-shaped liftarm, the axle will be pulled out too. 3. Replace 2L pin with 3L pin and bush. https://brickset.com/parts/4140801/2m-fric-snap-w-cross-hole 4. Replace 5L with stop axle with 8L with stop axle. Doing so will give you spare space to grab and pull the axle out. The bare 3L part of this axle can be covered with a 2L yellow tube (https://brickset.com/parts/6173122/tube-w-double-4-85-hole) and 1/2 yellow bush (https://brickset.com/sets/containing-part-4239601).

42083 - Bugatti Chiron
Ngoc Nguyen replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Cumulonimbus I think one of the constraints for designing the Porsche is the number of pieces. I recalled reading somewhere that the real Porsche is also made up of 2700 pieces. TLG may have wanted to stick to that number to further cement the idea that people are building a real car. I don't know if the Chiron is also subjected to the same constraint :-s -

We have survived 3 months without anything about this set, so I think another month wouldn't be too unbearable. -

It has just occured to me that the B model of 42079 should be a telescopic handler. That would be a proper way to reuse both the gear rack, the cargo pallet, and the biohazard container. -
At least we won't have to worry jerky flimsy wobbly outriggers this time I guess, because they are one-stage only. I still can't get the outriggers in my 42009 to work properly.

Nah, the reasonable price for a 4000 pcs set is 160 - 170 EUR, which you can get on amazon.de 1 year after 42082 has been released and right before the next flagship is released, just as how I got 2 BWEs for that price. For some reason amazon.de can afford crazy discounts. I do feel like cheating TLG off a piece of their profit, but I just can't help it.

Since outriggers and rotation are motorized there must be two switches in the undercarriage. I don't think these two functions should be changed simultaneously, so I think one switch will change the direction, and one switch will change the function.

Yeah I also think motor and BB should be in the superstructure to serve as counterweights.

If it is PF upgradable wouldn't it be weird to have one function of the arm motorized and the other one not?
