I don't have a scale in my house so I can't weigh it. According to Sariel's review, the model weighs 3.418 kg. But it is much heavier than it looks. I remember trying to lift it from below with one hand, and I was surprised at how heavy it is. I think whether the crane leans or not depends on the structural bearings and the position of the center of gravity in relation the ground contact base, not the density or weight of the undercarriage.

This is one of the subassemblies that feels overly complicated and redundant. It can be done with a 5x7 frame, 4 pin with pin holes in the inside, 2 pin with pinholes on the outside, and 2 pins.

But back to the comparison between BWE and RTC, I don't really recall the time when I felt that something was overcomplicated and can be simplified when I built the BWE. Probably because the BWE has more structural bracing subassemblies than the RTC, so nothing feel redundant for the BWE.

Yeah I know. But it still feels like that to me. And also of largest scale. And by the way are you intentional at the "dumb truck" hahaha

About 80% of picture results about GT Race Car has a stint of red, so I'm hoping that 42096 would bring the wheel arch in red. Even a curved 3x13 in red is fine. This should follow the trend that every Technic supercar since 2013 brings some panels in new color to the table. 42000: 5x11, 5x7 in white 42039: a lot in bright green 42056: a lot in orange 42077: wheel arch and curved 3x13 in dark azure 42000 may not look significant in the general timeline of Technic, but at the time of its introductions it did matter in terms of panel packs.

Indeed. During the build more than once I felt that some certain subassemblies can be created with less parts. It's like the designer intentionally overcomplicate things to increase part count.

I've just finished the A model. I have to say I really really really like it. All functions work smoothly, even when operated by hand, unlike that wretched yellow set whose number should not be mentioned (but I can say it ends with 9), and unlike the dethroned former record holder of the Technic set with most parts whose functions feel like they are stretching testing the limits of Lego ABS. I'm surprised to find out that the outriggers are very easy to handle, probably thanks to a simpler drivetrain. A lot of small details turn out to be very well thought out. And it's big. I like big things. This is no doubt the ultimate Technic mobile crane. One small gripe I have for this set is that it takes the set-with-most-pieces title from the BWE. The RTC feels big, but the BWE feels magnificent. The largest land-based machine is a BWE. The BWE is designed at the smallest scale yet it is still big. And when the BWE was released, it was a great leap forward from 2700 of the MB Arocs to 3900 of the BWE. BWE to me is the true holder of that title.

One does not simply pay the full MSRP for a 42083, or any other Lego set in that matter. -

Why need pin with no stop when you can slide an axle instead? The Heavy Lift Helicopter uses this technique. A 5L axle with stop aligns 5 pin holes together. -
I've just finished the B model yesterday, and I really like the build. A number of things feel wobbly or random at first, but later everything fits together and I was like ohh that's how they work. It's the first set that I build the B model before the A model. I think I like the B model more. It looks modern, unfamiliar, but simple and straightforward enough to serve as a concept model - a model that demonstrates a concept. The A model feels like it has a bunch of unnecessary things slapped on it, like the 3 things on the wheel cover, or moving butt. Besides, the scissor body makes more sense in the B model. I think it helps keeping the bed level when the vehicle is going up a slope. The fact that the camera stalk is located in the front also makes more sense. Another thing I like is that my finger can reach the fan under the drone in the front body and make it spin. I'm not sure doing this is possible with the A model. An unusual feature of this model is the fact that the front axle is more sensitive to the HOG steering than the rear, because the steering linkages in the front axles are connected to light tan frictionless pins, while those of the rear are connected to blue friction pins. The front axles tend to wobble slightly left and right when I push the model on a surface, and turning the HOG will make the front axle reacts first before the the rear one start to turn. I havent got the A model so I dont know if this feature is present in the A model. One thing that may limit its playability for some people is the bed. It's made from 5x11 tapered panels, so there are diagonal slits in the middle. This means the bed can't load small things like pins. Although the bed is more fully covered than that of the 42030 B, it's shallow, so you can't put too many things in it though.
