As I see it, the sets that use Unimog tyres or Class tyres are modeled after vehicles that in real life has wheels bigger than a human's height. Volvo Loader, Class Xerion, RTC all have wheels about 1.8 meters in diameter. I've been waiting for an official reach stacker with Unimog tyres and maybe XL LAs. Do real life reach stackers have wheels that big?

The transmission from the motor goes to two separate gearbox. One gearbox controls the crane rotation and the outriggers. These two functions need movement limters, so the transmission has to go through the small 8z gear and the 24z clutch gear. The other gearbox controls the compressor and the outriggers. Since the compressor doesn't need movement limiters, and the LA has internal clutch, this gearbox doesn't need the white 24z clutch gear. The missing gear in front of the 8z gear in your picture is the one links to this gearbox.

Rim Reduction: 56x34 rims get reduced to 43.12x18 ones. 43.12x18 ones get reduced to 30x20 ones.

The end of Technic as we know it is near. I think the Land Rover is RC and will utilize Control+. Maybe a gearbox. In terms of mechanical functions, I don't think it has many to offer.

That also means I put the central transmission gears the other way around. It's really fortunate that I detected the mistake early. If I had been any later, I would end up with a Unimog that has the drivetrain linked to the steering and the HOG...

Now I understand the importance of color codes in the undercarriage of 42082. Several steps into the Mog's undercarriage and I sudden realized I put the motor and the gearbox on thee wrong side, which means they face the rear instead of the front.

Finally got my hands on the Unimog. A brand new sealed one by the way. I'm not really keen on this set, and it sat unopened in my room for 2 weeks. But then, I wanna see if there is something good in this. So let the build begin.

Contest idea: Build a telehandler. Possible entries include telescopic forklift, telescopic loader, telescopic cherry picker, telescopic grappler. Maybe reach stacker. I'm not sure if reach stacker counts as a telehandler though.

But, why though? By the way in the sets the truck uses Mack wheels, while the car uses Corvette wheels, so there's no violation of your observation.

One thing I don't like about the spider crane is that it doesnt seem to be compact. Real life spider cranes are supposed to be compact, and all appendages can be folded in neatly. The track base is oblong and very narrow, so that the crane can be utilized in small spaces. The superstructure is also narrow, the hydraulic is right next to the base of the crane, and the crane is installed at one end of the undercarriage, so that when folded the crane can be tucked on top of the cabin at the other end. In the Lego model the features are opposite. The undercarriage looks like a square. The crane is installed right in the middle of the undercarriage, and the base of the superstructure is about half the width of the undercarriage already. In other words, the crane occupies a big circle in the middle of the undercarriage. Since all of these observations are based on the prelim image, I hope that the final model looks better. The 42055 B model looks kinda dumb in the prelim image, but the final model got me falling for it.

I thought it depends on the way the wheel is mounted. If the wheel is mounted on one side the offset is negative, while if on the other side, the offset is positive.

This survey was sent before the Toy Fair revelations, so some of the set names still have the CONF thing, like 42100 CONF Elephant. I learned from graphic design that visual composition works like the moment formula in physics. The moment formula says that Moment = Force times Distance. This means that a heavy object near the axis can be balanced by a light object further away from the axis. In composition, a sense of balance can be created with a big object near the center and a small object further away from the center. This might explains why the A model looks good and the B model looks ugly. In the A model, there is a block of gearbox and battery box and fake counter weights near the axis of rotation, and on the other end there's a slim small boom extending further away. In the B model, the pile boom is just too short, which makes the whole thing look weird. Another factor that might contribute to the unsightly appearance is the short rear. The mounting point of the superstructure in the B model is pushed several studs backwards, which make the whole superstructure leaping forward several studs, which in turn makes it shorter than the undercarriage. Looks short and terse.

If there is indeed a new turntable, how big do you guys think it would be? The current big turntable has a 4L radius - 7L diameter and 60 teeth. Maybe 5L radius - 9L diameter and I dont know 84 teeth?

I feel like 42082 is the best creation so far by Lego Technic. It's huge, it's Technic-ish, its build is pleasant, its looks is coherent, its details are well-thought, and it works like a charm. Not all big sets can tick all those boxes. The next big set BWE misses the last box.

I think the B model of the spider crane is a tracked pile driver. Four yellow horizontal stabilizers. The XL LA can be used to push the pile forward. The Telescopic mechanism can be used to lower the pile. The winch can be used to ramp the post like the way things work in 42082 B.

I think it's time 42055 got retired. Flagship sets usually have a shelf life of 2.5 years.

What is that subtractor that you guys are referring to?
