I think they (LEGO or Nintendo, not sure which) didn't want Mario seen without his overalls to keep some of the game play aspects a surprise. Until LEGO revealed that the interchangeable costumes have a function themselves, through the description on the site, they didn't want this image circulating because of the clearly visible contact points (they look like contacts on Nintendo cartridge games). This is what makes me think of the Mario brick as a console for the gaming system, which makes the cost of the starter set seem more reasonable to me. The way the reader in Mario functions makes any LEGO set with the colors Mario responds to potentially part of the game. I have some fun ideas with some Duplo parts I own, including these large ice cream cone pieces.

The clips on the saddle are only really good for long bars; pole-arms or flagpoles. -
The Power-Up Packs are now listed on the US site as coming soon. The description uses the term "interactive outfit".

There has been repeated discussion about wanting another Xtra set for Pirates. An upcoming set recently showed up on IG that should be useful. Sorry, no cannons, but the sizable ribbon of 'water' might be useful. There are three parts that are too modern day to use, but any City builder would gladly take them off your hands.

There might actually be some small amount of tech in the overalls. Looking at the front of the base Mario tech block, there are what look to be six contact points. This suggests an add-on program system. We should probably think of the Adventures with Mario Starter Course as the console for this gaming system. When viewed from that perspective, $60 doesn't seem that big of an expense.

Did I miss the discussion about the baby llamas alpacas in an upcoming Friends set?

LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
gedren_y replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
In animation there are usually multiple language audio tracks created for the various countries the show is supposed to air in. It's the language on the signs you really have to watch for. Depending on the animation studio you could see closed captioning style text translation of signs the viewer is supposed to read, or actual language replacement of the image. The second is the more expensive of the two, and is usually not bothered with if the primary target audience is the central Asian market. -
There's an image on IG of Mario without his overalls/feet. It's something I figured would be the case months ago. Some of the upcoming sets are probably going to be the various powered-up costumes he has in game.

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)

Earlier in this thread there was discussion of how a Bionicle Ideas build got the 10k votes to pass. That could easily be it.- 991 replies

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
gedren_y replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
For Space projects on Ideas to really get the kind of support needed to pass, they have to somehow capture the interest of non-LEGO sci-fi enthusiasts. The problem is LEGO has Star Wars, which overlaps so much of that community that competing for attention without a popular IP is difficult. Niche appeal is the only real way to go, but that requires a significant level of promotion outside the LEGO community. If you're going the IP route, you need to do research. Who owns it? Would they license with LEGO? What objections could LEGO have? What kind of other products are on the market? Will existing parts portray it to fans' satisfaction? That last is most important, because fans can just as easily kill a project as give it the support it needs.- 991 replies

There's an IG post comparing the Hidden Side castle to the Monster Fighters one. I commented there that they were from the Fantasy Era dark timeline where the Evil Wizard won. -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II

There have been some breach loading cannons in BOBS, including on some of my ship builds. I think we leave off at the integrated cartridge with percussion cap. -
LEGO Sci-Fi 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
gedren_y replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I put Mars Mission before Life On Mars. The MM minifig designs are closer to the current set's fig. You're right about MM being more military in design. LOM is more the follow-up civilian science, who's smallest minifig sets are somewhat precursors to the Ice Planet 2002 and Exploriens small sets. The Marians' sets in LOM could be seen as tech the minifigs learn from. The Classic Space retro futurism can be seen as putting a friendlier face on the various military operations in space, while Mars becomes more settled, and technology there changes with LOM. Technology evolves with Futuron, but the retro aesthetic remains. Later on the various divisions abandon the retro look for something more functional. At some point the UFOs invade, then the Insectoids. All culminating with the technology of Space Police III. I put this set at about the same time as, or just before, Alien Conquest, which would then make the militaristic Mars Mission make sense. -

There is a LEGO string with a small bar at one end that can fit into the fish's open stud. It often comes in sets with the fishing rod.

Does Nintendo still hold licensing rights to Sonic the Hedgehog? I remember it being a big deal when Nintendo acquired the rights to make Sonic Advance for the GBA. Did LEGO's licensing deal for Sonic for Dimensions go through Nintendo or Sega?

LEGO Monkie Kid 2020
gedren_y replied to Classic_Spaceman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Now that the Ninjago sets have begun leaking, I'm guessing there's going to be quite a few 'giant robot battle' videos by the end of the year. LEGO City is going to get demolished! -
That's because they're all going to be in Monkie Kid. One set has 5 or 6.

There's a parts use in the Monkie Kid Cloud Jet that I'm quite happy with, because it might mean we could get a certain trapezoid part in colors other than yellow and grey at some point. I'll be looking over the other sets for this part.
