It is no secret that Lego sets are designed primarily for kids - there are a few exceptions like the modulars for example which have an adult appeal and are not necessarily primarily designed for kids. The lego adult fan base is growing and from what I have realized people are generally dissatisfied, its not as if there is too much going on for adults in regard to certain themes examples: there is a lot of castle fans out there and while there have been some amazing sets out there in the past the last castle wave was disappointing in general and the upcoming nexo knights theme will be hardly appealing if one can believe the rumours surrounding this theme (optimistically speaking - personally I believe this theme will be rubbish both for children and adults) the current pirates line is not that bad IMHO - it is actually quite good in regard to the minifigs IMHO but is lacking in general content, first it is heavily overpriced as its not a licensed theme - the price per piece ration is ridiculous IMHO, second the sets are a rehash of what has been before - which is not a bad thing, especially for pirate newcomers, but as this wave will most likely be discontinued, it does not build up on anything. So if we have to wait another 5 years for the next pirates wave, which might be just another rehash, its not really that cool IMHO. BTW I really like the blue coats - pity there are no battle packs that can let you army-build easily - sad thing IMHO. the western theme is a pretty rare occurence - so when Lego came along with the lone ranger theme it was a welcome surprise to me - BUT - how many lone rangers do we need? the lack of variety in regard to indians was pretty disappointing - you basically had three different indians - with TONTO in every set... --- of course lego will not change their strategy in order to satisfy a minority of sorts but I thought they should generally create sets with both adults and kids in mind. Sets and themes should have playability for kids and elements that are appealing to adults. For example, the last castle theme, no matter how kiddie it was designed to be, could have included at least one set with some villagers - like a village raid rescue or something. I guess my ideas are nothing new, but still, what do you think about it?

Couldnt agree more! at least with the last part! I might actually buy it sooner rather than later cause there doesnt seem to be anything of interest coming out soon as far as the ship is concerned that would be my first ship actually - the things that hold me back are the ship in general (its not that great IMHO especially sailswise) and in effect I might need to buy it twice in order to create something special but I am not so talented with MOCs in general yet so I fear this would be wasted money. Bought myself the arjitzu temple recently so I cannot really justify spending too much money on bigger sets - especially that I am toying with the idea of buying the temple a second time in order to build a closed temple. yeah, why not! :)

Definitely not I think if a lego theme is accompanied by a tv show it sells better as it becomes more recognizable for kids who watch the shows - they know who the characters are and have something to relate to in general. Same goes for star wars and its success - star wars has been successful all the time - so lego star wars made a huge impact. classic castle, pirates and western would have probably been more successful during those times when hollywood made lots of movies about them - see pots and lotr - lone ranger (which as a foolish movie that I stopped watching halfway through) was not successful at all - the sets were likewise less successful.

It sure is rubbish! :) I have given it some thought but I cant seem any reason why Lego would believe this would be a big bang theme that is worth investing in. I mean c'mon, a castle on wheels? A flying castle - OK - but on wheels? I think they thought that chima and ninjago were so successful because they had vehicles - so a castle theme with vehicles might be good too. I just hope nobody is gonna buy it so that it can make room for some proper castle theme sets...

I think my interest for this theme has dropped to ground zero

I am still undecided about buying the bounty at all - shes not what I would like her to be - as of now the price has dropped a little - but still I am undecided there probably wont be any other pirate ships any time soon, though.

Minifig parts and accessories you don't like
CaptainToad replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I like the beard piece - the scimitar is not that bad The first thing that you notice about the minifig is that its totally disproportionate. I mean have you ever seen people who have bodies about three times the size of their heads? :) Lego's scale and size is not realistic - if it was I would agree witht the beard - otherwise its a nice addition to me. -
Who else here is into all sorts of themes?
CaptainToad replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am basically into historic themes, pirates, castle, western however, there arent too many sets coming out these days, so I sometimes buy sets for parts and try to sell the minifigs I am a little bit afraid the next year can be bad - even though I am very curious what nexo knighs will be, I am rather sure it will not be what I would like it to be - my hopes are very low - I hope the ninjago pirates will be pirates proper compatible so there is in fact nothing to look forward to next year -
The worst thing about this theme is that there (probably) wont be any civilians...

Thats life! Once you reach a certain level you just stop caring little by little - seen it so many times, when you need the clients you go the extra mile, when you feel you are on top of the world you think you're clients need you ;). As for me, I might actually not buy anything in October. I definitely cannot participate in both promotions - and if I had to choose between one of them I would feel I had missed out on something - so if I dont buy anything at all it might make me feel better! :) - and my wallet... Does anyone know how many parts that holiday train consists of ?
-
hopefully the ninjago pirates will be in some sort of way compatible
-
like Deraven said, Lego seems to need more money and apparently tries out different strategies and probably draws conclusions which promotion was the most effective one. For example if you want to buy the ewok village, I think double points might the better deal, however, if you just want to spend 100$ its probably better to go for the train. I will see what they end up doing in Europe and make a decision in October... maybe I will give both promotions a pass as there arent any sets out there that I would like to purchase and I dont want to make an artificial pab order in order to get a holiday train that may or may not have parts that I might use. too bad, bap orders neither count for vip points nor merchandise... :(
-
according to the lego store calendar theres gonna be double vip points in the beginning of October, is this US only or worldwide?

I have changed my attitude towards this new theme, sort of... a couple of months ago I have completely dismissed ninjago - ninjas and vehicles is an awful combination to me - and so is knights and, well, robo-horses then the temple of arjitzu was announced and I really liked the build - didnt wanna buy it at first - but then I gave in - after that I bought enter the serpent on a sale. I still dont like ninjago - and will never buy a set with vehicles but kinda like the ninja theme and certain enemies (those snake guys) - in the end, its about what you make of it and not necessarily what its designed to be. the nexo knights theme may turn out to be a disappointment for castle fans - but still, it may have certain elements, minifigs, sets, buildings that can be turned into something meaningful, even if the general theme will disappoint.

Man spends 3yrs building 'worlds biggest Lego model...
CaptainToad replied to grum64's topic in General LEGO Discussion
:) I guess its not that simple, I think he build the ship in regard to a certain scale - so IMHO he'd have to rebuild the whole ship in order to stay true to the scale -
I am not too creative - kinda rely on what I see elsewhere to inspire me. I dont generally sell lego (except certain minifigs) because anything can come in handy one day one way or another...
-
Could anyone tell what can be done with these kinds of elements?: http://brickset.com/parts/design-87559

there is just too many parts that are mostly useless or one trick ponies

I wonder what the pirates minifigs will look like and how compatible they gonna be with regular pirates (if at all!) -

CaptainToad replied to YellowCorvette's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I like nintendo too! Zelda would be awesome! Castles! Treehouse villages! Knights Lore Awesome characters Creatures the perfect castle theme! Probably not gonna happen anytime soon - especially now that we are getting nexo knights (one of those reasons I decided to buy the arjitzu temple!)- 451 replies
