  1. this I also doubt a soft reboot would/could give enough boost to intrigue new people but possibly push away the old fan base. Making the old ninja train other ninja or put new characters in the team would be a more sensitive move
  2. Well I never planned to get something of this theme but as they were throwing away sets for nothing I got a few figs with some cool printing and especially arm printing.. I hope TLG is learning from their experiences: I have no idea of any apps but folks said dimentions game wasn't working, same for Hidden side and now this. Dear TLG: either you figure out how the tech works (or let some video game company do it) or stick with what you have: hardware, plastic and add some cardboard games or whatever. I mean you could integrate Lego into practically any hardware games/board games or whatever people call 'em today. Do what you're good at.
  3. Those aliens are mostly generic anyway. But I really wonder if they update - at least - Bobas helmet. The sand green looks so bad on the new suit in my opinion -> I even reuse the old style helmet; also in it's proportions it looks way better.
  4. Ninjago reduced from all the lore and everything is a concept. A very flexible concept at that. You could also keep it running with less ressources and without a TV show for eternity. Like if you were to bring out another Bounty in some years, it could still be different enough, a great ship build and so on... I think there are already signs, as the TV show itself has been reduced in it's complexity and detail. To some extend this would be normal and I'd argue the amount of detail and thought that was put in until season 9 was insane for, what was originaly a "Ninja-Mecha-Racer-toy commercial". But seeing how much they've reduced it you gotta ask for example: how can they keep the team of actors, actresses and other coworkers aboard? It's also not like there's any replacement show to keep those folks busy. This is just my observation and there was some insider in this forum stating the show (in it's current or past form) won't go anywhere, so let's see. But in any case: ninjago is a safe bet, even without any of the fancy stuff while a new theme is always a risk. Retailers might have bad experience with other themes who's old sets are still sitting on their shelves.
  5. True. Timing is always an issue, especially in context of how long it takes for Lego to get sets for such a big licence. Like now, while there is hype for the Boba Fett show - there are no sets in sight and months after it'll be over we'll get some probably inaccurate ones, based on concept art, without any of the key figures. However: as said, I love Rebels but the show itself wasn't too popular - not at Disney, not with new kids and not with old CW fans and surely not with the classic SW fans. In addition, other toy brands had sets (like action figures, ship models) for a longer time and they were also flopping horribly.
  6. I mean from a companys perspective - you don't need to do every character who appeared 5 seconds. And they did most of them anyway. Kids want the big characters and Lego manages to cramp in some minor characters here and there just for the hardcore fans anyway (Admiral Dondana or whatever beard-face guys name was from the last X-Wing set; yep this guy for sure wasn't done for kids). And they almost didn't cover anything from Rebels unfortunately. Aside from S3 Kanan and Thrawn we've only ever had the S1 appearances and Sabine in that regard looked just horrible.. Not to mention that her S2 outfit came without helmet, despite being an overpriced 100€ set with only 4 figures to begin with... Lego does what sells. And Rebels - as much as I loved it - was a trauma for the company. There is many instances where officials mentioned how retailers didn't want any sets from Rebels. I see the Phantom II set more as a favour for fans as well. With HP, as long as they cover some of the main parts from later movies it should be fine. And unlike LotR and some other companies, they seem to get along well with the licence owner.
  7. Many decisions from the higher ups are not very rational or at least quite conservative - like Lego's social media communication. But in this case; they just do what works for them/is profitable and thats it. Yes, every few years they have some kind of unique/artistic things (Lego Movie stuff, vidyo) but any other theme usually is all about appealing to the masses. Classic themes have established their ways lately in their sucessful themes (Ninjago, friends, City, Creator, Ideas) but they are also were "boarded" by the big licences. Especially Marvel nowdays kind of does everything. The daily bugle works great as a modular, they have several "art" sets, mechs, wizards, medevil, asian/oriental and so on. Lego's approach to classic themes was burried like 6 years ago when castle, galaxy squad and pirates failed hard. I'd say those themes would still work but not at this price point. Playmobil is expensive but if you wanna castle you get a proper one for the right price. With Lego you get a colourful wall for 100 so young kids would probably rather have playmobil or cheaper Lego alternatives if available.
  8. Well even the normal toy stores have updated their prices pretty fast. So they didn't even wait until selling their old boxes from the old year. Funny thing: so far all sets on all stores I've seen so far maintained the old price through being on sale. The "normal" price is just written anyway. So I guess the higher prices for sets like from Ninjago doesn't matter so much as you get them for the cheaper price some weeks/months later anyway.
  9. yep! Right now you might be able to get them vidyo figs pretty cheap! CMF's are a treat for making Mandos/SW figs in general more detailed The latest series comes with dual molded white-sand blue arms (perfect for the ARC trooper) and a bunch of other useful prints..
  10. I tried to get over the "feeling bags for hours" situation yesterday. Wow - I never had such issues feeling the figs properly! Mostly because parts were compressed in plastic bags within and because some accessories were similar to others. I have had like 8 peppers and 9 raccoons in my hand. In the end I was feeling all the figs right but to be sure I took quite a few duplicates - so I spent 90 bucks; my record for CMF's so far.. But usually I regret not getting some super cool ones twice so I guess it was a good investment I got the explorer 3 times and already I could have even more of her cool dual molded legs! They look pretty sleek on Attack on Titan costume figures and if you change the printed hip-belt piece into an unprinted one, they look pretty cool on the comic Thanos minifigure! Overall really useful prints and figs!
  11. I wanted to watch since some reviews were making a few episodes sound almost like them creative shortfilms you'll find on YT. Next to the OT and Rebels I love even some stop-motion films. To me they really show the positive potential of SW instead of just abusing and overrepeating the 5-6 typical beats. But prequels or sequels are just a badly written commercial product in my point of view. I could say much about the Marvel films but as commercial as they are: quite a few are well produced, creative and especially well written and acted. Rogue One wasn't perfect but at least it was tonally coherent and focussed on an interesting part of the universe instead of being all over the place. To me already Ep 7 destroyed any bigger interest in SW. I watched the 1st episode of Boba Fett - I was surprised by how creative iand well written it was! I liked the Mandalorian as some kind of "guilty pleasure" but honestly I feel like it's a bit crappy and super underwritten. This felt in some way similar but much better written and cut. The main characters are interesting so far and I am happy we finally get some kind of Boba Fett who gets to do something. Let's hope though they don't just make him a "Disney anti-hero" cause that wouldn't mean nothing. Mando authentically plays a pretty good guy but come on: let Boba be a bit of an megablock.
  12. ever seen Kurosawa films? Some years ago I had a thing and binge watched them like crazy. One of them I thought like "this is exactly like the beginning of a new hope" - and later found out Lucas copied it even down to the dialogue. Weird person Lucas.. Lot of great ideas, lot of bad ideas and a lot of stuff taken directly from these and other older movies... There's enough space if you replace the handle. I modded something first a mechanism but removed it due to the looks. Shouldn't be too hard to do a better one though! Problem is only the access.
  13. Unfortunate - I won't buy it or any of the others but it's quite respectable and I'd love to at least see a review As a kid I'm sure I would have loved the current wave.
  14. I aint the OP but they look super costume. Like painted.
  15. Of course this always bumps up the price. But I think these dioramas are nice additions to the standard sets. They make for nice presents for adult fans. I know many adults who adore the microscale Hogwarts, Newts suitcase and this kind while they only see a bunch of messy parts with the system scale sets. I hope they'll do more of these kind of sets including "books", book stoppers and so on. I'm still waiting for a book stopper-Hogwarts express!!
  16. The revisited X-Wing was one of the few inclusions and updates of original vehicles I liked about the new trilogy. Most other reused concepts were pretty unoriginal, worse (remember gorilla AT-AT?), inferior or something. I prefer the old X-Wing but the new ones were nice additions and a fun twist since they were based on older concepts. It made it even more weird Lego just reused the base design of the standard X-Wing used for like 10 years now. I still don't get why they never tried to make it at least a bit more sleek - while you will never reach such great proportions like the master Jerac, you could get a bit closer to the original!
  17. That looks like 60 droids per "haul"? Unfortunate them gungans were making the naboo battle so childish. Otherwise I think vehicles such as the MTT would have made for some iconic EP5-Hoth worthy designs! Also your other pictures are insane! I counted something around 80 cannons on the ship? My record I think is like 60 on my modified Destinys Bounty!
  18. crazy how insanly good some builders are...
  19. Anyone saw a review of the spaceship yet?
Anyway: crazy how heat resistant bricks are! I am always worried about those sets (also my favourite sets) standing on a shelv hit by sunlight (through the window anyway). But I am sceptical about prints. I have had some issues with figures from sets not that old, where prints were just going off by touching them. Really sad because those were some great figures. But for some reason it happend only to a couple of figs, others weren't affected. Does anyone know why that could be? I left boxes out sometimes a few days (enjoying the freedom of creating a mess while the partner is gone ; ) so sunlight might have hit it (again through windows).
  21. It's my speculation. Maybe you are right. From a business perspective it would make more sense to have a large amount of strong in-house themes and little reliance on licences. Can be that the other themes mentioned worked out well enough. Who knows? Because businesses are not keen on getting bad news out there, might causing more distrust in their stocks and reputation. I just remember quite abrupt endings and crazy sales for the last waves of mentioned themes. Maybe this is giving me the wrong impression, that Lego had a financial loss while overall it worked out fine. With TLM2, at least the later waves of TLBM and TLNM I would be a bit more sure about this. Some sets weren't even requested anymore all that much by retailers and many also had crazy sales going on. 2 out of 3 of those movies also weren't making much money as far as I remember or even loosing cash. ...and that's coming from a guy who loved all those movies AND the sets. I am just trying to explain why classic themes are probably a no-go for the broader market and why there is less sense in a high quantity of in-house themes instead of playing the strengh of the few you have. + Dots or MK are doing something that hasn't been done before (unlike horror or sci-fi themes). Therefore they can try to tap into a new market: China, arts, etc. Since Hidden side we have no indication of any new "normal" in-house theme. ...that said I like in-house themes and I would like more of them. I am just trying to make clear that it's not the easiest time anymore for them, next to all them cinematic universes and whatever. ....so overall I just try to argue against what I would call conspiracy theories that "Lego wants to destroy classic themes, prequels" or whatever. They are just a profit oriented toy company witha lot of research and financial reasons instead of some weird paranoid fantasies. I think as a fandom it's really sad there is so much narcissism and I don't want to associate this kind of behaviour with AFOL's (like Mandy Products or whatever youtubers who make money from bashing something).
  22. I just wanted to post this. I mean I didn't get the issue at all. And I also thought those pins are usually quite easy to get out with the brick seperator. But my god - how something so small and non-relevant - can blow up this way.
  23. I think it's just more for children. Like the building techniques are much less complicated, rely less on a high quanity of small parts and so on. More play features, more comical. I still hope Legacy returns though; I'd love to see new renditions of Zanes s3 ship and some other stuff. Anyway; I got the Ronin figure from the most recent magazine. Really cool how you can get a figure from a 400 € set so easily
  24. I gotta say some of them space sets are pretty cool. From the last wave I only liked the modular space station. Especially the new space station really looks like a cool design. Reminds me on some realistic space ship concepts.
  25. that's great to hear! In any case: so far the '22 sets look to be normal prices for Germany. Monkie-kid and City sets are - for some reason - even much cheaper here. If that doesn't change overnight - and especially the leaked catalouges probably won't chance - then mostly we won't see the difference I guess. New ninjago sets don't look like such good deals anymore but that was already the case starting with 2021.
