Unpopular Opinions about LEGO
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yes and why even go with whats conservative reality? It's a fictional city after all. Why reproduce something in the most conservative way (which is what they did until around 6 years ago anyway)? It's the same with fantasy: if something is fantasy, why have the most whitewashed version of it? We even know history was tough but still much more diverse, then what we get in fantasy stories. There is a lot of evidence for people of colour in ancient times and whatever would mean people of colour: Italians, greeks spanish and other folks are not exactly the most nordic though being portrayed as such in movies. It's fantastic how Lego stepped up in diversity. Before you found like 1 female figure ina whole wave. It's so amazing to get figs with prosthetics as well. So why should TLG - when before they avoided this topic - not represent it in an even more more optimistic way? One child from my work proudly showed off the CMF paralympics bike guy with a swapped face to represent his paralyzed mother who has a similar bike. People on IG are complaining about "wasted" molds and prints for this instead of being happy for others and even for themselves to get and different Lego. -
Jurassic World 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

I only own one set - Quetalcoatlus and plane. I modded the plane into a bigger, proper "Boxcar" airplane. Dino is great. I also think the Ankylosaurus looked really great from reviews. The flexible tail and rubber spikes make it look much more alive. I even apprechiated the build! It looked quite substantial and useful for many settings. Almost got the set when I found it on sale but then I saw the big grey Dino had no hand articulation anymore (the first, white version did have) - and when I dislike one thing from TLG, it is this kind of downgrading. Otherwise I feel like I'm pretty alone in liking the thew spring green T-Rex. If I ever find the set on sale for no more then 30€, I will get it just for the T-Rex. I think it has a very unique colour scheme and considering Dinos probably looked completely different from what we think (much more fat and "hairy") at least this one looks more like a colour scheme you'd find in nature. -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
Correct me if I've missed something. But isn't the main problem that at the moment there are almost NO parts available? If I put a random set even some normal tiles are not showing up. I would understand if one can't get the best figure and animal parts from this service anymore. But I do hope at least normal parts would return.. For the first time since collecting Lego I've purchased from other brands - basically the sets from there come cheaper just to get great parts. I've noticed this way that without Bricks and pieces I can't even order something from the online shop because I wouldn't spend more then like 15-20 bucks for their sets -

Cool to get yet another skin tone - now we have 6 if you don't count tan and some orange colours used before. If any Ezra or Sabine figures should appear again, I hope they'll use them new colours. Both never looked quite "white" while Kanans skin tone didn't fit them either. The Naboo fighter is horrible though.. I get TLG makes if oversized to include some play features and fit the price. But the amount of dark grey and exposed studs is so weird for a 90% silver and smooth ship. -
LEGO Ninjago 2022
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Gangikhan448's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
wow.. there are callbacks and cecolours all the way back to season 8. It always makes me happy to see them iconic pieces make a return. And the new molds.. I can't even count.. TLG must have saved money for 1,5 years and now BAM we get a ton of new molds just everywhere. I'm out though - I have no space for them huge builds anymore and while the figures are cool - at some point I gotta stop collecting or I have to open a museum . Since bricks & pieces is gone and ninjago pieces there weren't available for a year already, I will put my hope on magazine gifts to get maybe some of the cool new molds. Standout for me are the new oni masks - Lloyd and Garmadon look superb. Also the rest of the ninja suits look cool (3 for reach is insane..) but in comparison to the last years they don't differentiate enough I feel.. -

I don't know.. some of my favourite builds from Lego are creature builds, mostly from Ninjago. But occasionally they bring out some animal that looks like they put 6 blocky sections with grey connector pieces together. To me this looks like one of the worst. The creator tiger for example wasn't perfect but pretty good and hide the technic colours inside. It's not without reason that I resort to older creature builds and mechs for specialized technic pieces which - back in these days - came in many colours, instead of just grey. -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
My god I'm so glad I made a huge order in January to finish up my existing MOC's... I liked to get them cool pieces without the cost of sets - but come on - they must have somehow felt an effect on normal set sales from this. You could order 5 horses instead of getting one in an expensive set. But I do really hope they will start selling normal pieces again. Like many here, I look at all my great MOC's: They would not exist without this service. I just despise the original look of most Lego sets. Ordering around 5€ of parts for each set allowed me to make them something great. I don't want to go back buying random sets only for getting 2-4 of the parts I need to make other sets not look as terrible. In my Razor Crest ship alone, I've used so many of the newer smooth pieces to create a beautiful MOD/MOC, instead of the messy garbage they gave us. I could never get that amount of pieces in the right colour via buying some random sets. My standard for MOC's is too high now So I'm not trashing Lego here, I understand this service is probably more effort then aid for them. But if I cant modify the bad, half finished sets Lego gives us, I will simply not buy any sets from them anymore. There are other, alternative brands were sets always have colour consistency, are smooth on undersides and don't have 50 colours showing through. I've already considered buying some of these sets as parts cheaper parts packs then Lego would ever be. Also you can buy Lego compatible pieces from these brands way cheaper. -

The ship looks nice but price and creature really bring it down. No matter how great the ship build may be but what do you get? Old ship: 50€, beautiful huge hull and sail molds, printed shields, pretty cool creature. New ship: 120€, great ship but horrible creature and no prints. I am fine with the brick built shields but whatever inflation we may have - most people don't earn 70% more than 20 years ago. And it feels like you get "less" for much more money. Especially the technic pieces that weren't colour fixed back then really helped. -
LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I'm pretty impressed by the set after seeing the review! I've been disappointed by "missed" angles and curves of many past UCS vehicles such as the A-Wing. This set pretty much gets the shape right. And the colour is striking - when did we ever get a UCS set without grey, black, white or best case dark red being the main colours? The broken engine could use a lot more greebling but that would be an easy fix. The gigantic stickers at the front though are horrible to look at. It's unforgivable that they use stickers for such a curved large piece at the front. And the nougat colour of the sticker is so bad. If I were to collect such sets, I'd prefer 15$ more just for a print in Cobi quality (as Lego prints can be quite weak as well). -
The colour scheme of the Goblin dragon was fabulous and it's smooth surfaces were not just ahead of it's time but until today one of the best "stud and anti-stud-free" builds. I have problems relating to sets without only thinking of my modified versions. I guess I wouldn't like any official sets they way they are released. Honorable mentions: 75292: The Razor Crest - typical Lego SW set, random use of studed plates and no sense for a consistant colour pattern at all. But I do appreciate the overall proportions: while not being perfect they are very nice for the size and give one of the best interiors of a set this scale. The exterior looks horribly messy without modifications - my version is basically studless (and antistudless) which only requires a change of the hull. Many other SW sets are just wrong in their proportions and colors already and therefore impossible to modify (just compare Mandos N1 ship with all the much smaller and better MOC's). 70618: Destiny's Bounty (from TLNM) - ship is a bit stubby, sails are too small and colours could have been a bit more uniformal (lots of grey and dark tan in between) but for a set at this price this was an insane deal. I got it for 90€ and my modified version with 52 cannons is the pride of my fleet. 70830: Sweet Mayhem's Systar Starship! – Love the set for many reasons. Sad this kind of potential is almost never seen in SW sets. Only an honorable mention because it was insanely overpriced. ___________________________________________________ #5 70643: Temple of Resurrection – I gotta include one of the many great Ninjago location sets. Build has a lot of depth, plenty of play features, great figures, great for display. At the time of it's release I was still working with kids and the way they played with it reminded my of my own time with the iconic 7417: Temple of Mount Everest set. #4 21315: Pop-Up Book – there isn’t much to say, the build, the feature and colors are amazing. #3 75312: Boba Fett's Starship – good price, great figs, great looks and same play features. The smart build shows you don’t need 100-400€ for a great looking set, capturing the iconic proportions. #2 71705: Destiny's Bounty – I feel like this was an even cleaner build than the “UCS” style one from TLNM. Great feature, lots of space and great looks. My only criticism would be the weak figures and the colorful technic pins (which I of course replaced among other modifications). #1 71753: Fire Dragon Attack – I could pick quite a few Ninjago or Elves creatures– almost all have some great proportions, building techniques, as well as some flaws. Here only the bland figures and some dark tan and light grey parts stand out in a bad way. Everything else makes this the best dragon so far. With the sweet Mayhem Systarship it’s the most unique build I have ever seen in a “normal” set.

Wizarding World 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
There was never any system that really worked together. The only way would have been something like the nanoscale version -> little segments on rocky bases with a certain thickness. But except for the "old" great hall there was never any Hogwarts set with actual thickness. Well I hope now this stupid rumor stops of TLG not doing any HP6+7 sets. As you can see they completely do. Anyway: I am happy about so many great recolours spread through all the sets! Cloud piece, baby Phox, a bunch of new hair recolours. I was always sad of how many (in my point of view) useless new hairpieces TLG does, while never having a big variety of recolours (not counting the new "diverse" molds). Figure quality overall is much better. It's insane they did even a D2C set without any leg prints and horrible choices of face reuses (looking at you Lucius and no his leg print I won't count). And the dragon is insane. Really well done, not many visible weird colours, lot's of detail and a great figure! -

We live in a time of culture empires. Disney being the biggest one. Would be interesting to see with what creative alternatives TLG would come up instead of SW, HP, Marvel and so on. Especially Marvel nowdays is like every single theme; asian, oriental, middle age, modern, sci-fi, monster, magic, animals - everything. But I doubt they'd be as sucessful. -

really sad the official set does not give you many pieces used in all these great MOC's. Instead there is yet again an oversized and overpriced ship with wrong proportions.. -
Jurassic World 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

I'm sorry but so bad with Dinosaur names .. And there is this controversy about how accurate actually those species are. So are raptors actually raptors or not? It's like you'd refer to Yoda as an elephant. I know it's fiction but as it links to science in many ways I look at it closer. anyway: my god.. I wasn't the biggest fan of the diorama set but using stickers for the eyes is a huge shame. I think otherwise it would be a great base for a brick built T-Rex if modified slightly (belly, arms). The biggest set I find quite interesting - the builds while not perfect are rather unique and seem useful for many settings. Even the helicopter looks unique, useful and colour consistent. -

I don't see any issue with the claws - would be so much worse if they were just "painted on". The fact that they are just Lego pieces means you can replace them with all the other available claw pieces. New molds if I'm correct: - Pyroraptor - This other smaller raptor mold - "teenage raptor" - flying Dinosaur thingy -> 2 molds for the wings, 1 for jaw, 1 for body+head. - Big Dino -> modified head and new body - "Wolverine Dino": 2x new arms and new head. ...12 new molds. Wow! And except for the two new raptor species, any other new dino has quite decent articulation. One can dream of Smaug-like foldable wings, posable legs and head for the flying dinosaurs and all dinosaurs with the same articulation as the standard raptors. Not to forget rotating hands for the Wolverine-thingy. But yeah realistically this wave is a huge step up. In adition the builds look much nicer and more useful. You don't get JUST trucks and weird 1-person helicopters. There is a unique plane with a cool colour scheme, the biggest set has a very interesting build. Not bad -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

I've ben censored multiple times for mentioning the names of other companies. But if I don't name them I guess it's a loophole? To be honest I get it. Any other brand I know - no matter how they try to put it, they are all related somehow with factories or subbrands that steal from Lego and fans. Whether it's MOC's or just the molds by Lego. So I guess noone has the moral highground. Anyone does what they can to make a profit. And again TLG is a company, we have no place of power. We can only buy or not buy. And arguably Lego could make more money if from 1000 people 100 buy 1-3 sets with kittens in them instead of 500 getting them online, sometimes in absurd orders of 100 sheeps and or kittens for one person. I think it was a nice service, I never understood why they did it or if it was actually profitable. Anyway if you research about other companies in Europe, you'll find a lot of stuff. Some is 10% the price of Lego, some is almost the same price. Some stuff they don't have (especially everything related with figures or prints) but they have some stuff you'll never see from Lego - mainly recoloured ball joints (my god could we just get them in white, brown and black??!). They have those joints in like all kinds of colours. -
LEGO Ninjago 2022

Watch this documentary and proof me wrong after ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ol4lBKVX8cg It's insane. I mean it is a toy commercial about spinner-ninja-dragon-weird tech-whatever stuff. It's like transformers but even more cringe. From S2 on they put actual feminist theory in the show for Nyas character. They took inspiration and consultation from Japanese mythology instead of simply appropriating the cliches. They picked a really good VA cast, directed them with a lot of thought, a very thoughtful soundtrack etc. Maybe I'm wrong and only the flexibility of the sets made the show so appealing. But maybe the depth of both show and sets were influencing each other and enabling this product to continue until now. I know how shows work; I was working in this business before. Trust me or research yourself - there are TV shows and movies way more expensive and meaningful, where they put way less care into the writing process, way less concept art. They put some stuff together in a few weeks and it's odne. Compared to these big names Ninjago was a freaking pyjama-men toy commercial. But I'd argue there is deeper feminism in this show then in any current Marvel or DC movie. The nuance of how many times conflicts are solved by befriending, understanding or redeeming the villain - or the inner conflict itself, the community, empowerment were the point all along. Of course often it's about random action scenes and mostly I'd argue the animation isn't exactly great. Sorry for the rambling, this is more what I meant instead of only the canon. -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
I mean there are many alternative compatible brands, selling parts much cheaper and in a larger variety of colours. All those ball joints not colour fixed, many kinds of smooth curved plates, tiles and undersides don't have to consist of 2x2 smooth tiles, as they are the only smooth "underside" elements Lego has except for some technic parts that only look smooth. I feel stupid though that I didnt make another order. Just looking some days ago all the party I wanted were available and now non of them even show up. Well it's not like I haven't enough Lego at home I at least wish that TLG gives us an honest and transparent reply on what will be the new policy. If they say "nope people stopped buying sets cause they can order all the great stuff for a few cents and our poor factory workers go crazy by putting an insane amount of special orders together" - I would get it. They are a profit oriented company and since I found B&P I barely bought any sets. Not that this will change but a great update would at least be to know a bit better WHEN parts will be available. -
LEGO Ninjago 2022

S11 was kind of in between continuation and soft reboot. If they go for full reboot, I wonder if they would change more then just forgetting the last 10 years of canon. Like adding some more female main cast (Skylor etc.). I think the best way to go would be a time skip with "ninja masters" and new younger ninjas to be trained. But without the insane planning that went into s1-9 I guess everything will fall apart storywise at one point. Overall I only see less money/quality being invested into the show. Everything was a downgrade after season 9. With some good moments in every season of course and one pretty good season with MoM. -

I wonder if Nya will return to her old form or just momentarily "help out". Not clear for me from descriptions. Anyway really sounds like "Endgame" Ninjago. Curious what will follow next. Maybe they'll just do some kind of shorts from now on. I just can't get any more sets though a new Harumi, Skylor Garmadon and Nya would have been super nice to own (Lego knows how to get me ; ) -
LEGO Creator 2022 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to TeriXeri's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I like the brick built shields but otherwise both creature and ship don't peak my interest. I really liked those old technic + brick built creatures. The builds included a lot of useful technic parts and many modified or technic parts specifically recoloured for that single set. Some exceptional cases aside (last year Ninjago fire dragon, this years creator Tiger) many builds - despite the amazing new parts TLG owns - are just kind of blocky and have inconsistant colour schemes. As for the ship it for sure does everything it tries to do. But brick built sails and all the classic colours just aren't my thing. The Thor ship is cheaper, will contain more detailed figures and has a very interesting colour scheme (when did we ever get an all dark tan build?!). -

1 obscure new figure and 2 reused figs plus a few parts. This is what we are used to, since the higher-than-CMF-quality Toys R us minifig packs don't exist anymore. Probably better because only a few folks were able to get them. I also wonder why Lego doesn't fill the hole for high quality figures that ANYONE can get for a high price. I mean people would pay a lot of money for Iron Man figs with special printing and so on. Compared to the figure packs we are used to by now this one is pretty far superior though. 5 instead of 3 figures 3 of which are rare. A pretty good build for this alien character and one exclusive figure. It's completely fine to complain or wish for more. But isn't it childish to expect something we just never get and be so upset when - as to be expected - it doesn't happen? Half the licence-thread postings are about too high expectations. I'm not saying Lego shouldn't up their game. They should! Or at least they should communicate why they don't do - sometimes there are good reasons beyond our knowledge. But don't you understand why many folks here are annoyed about the same cycle repeating itself over and over again? Too high expectations and then bashing what's coming whether it's actually that terrible or not. -
Jurassic World 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Kim-Kwang-Seok replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I heavily dislike many aspects of the new dinosaurs. Pyroraptor could use a different body texture, showing off the feathers. They also managed to interprete "fur" with other animals before so I don't know why they don't do here and keep the "smooth" texture for most of the body. Then there is this thing with newer animal molds having 0-1 points of articulation. They had the perfect arms + turnable hands for the fantasy dino from JWI and the Baryonix dinosaur. Then they changed it into worse looking arm+hand-one-piece. Same with those raptors. The standard raptors have 6 points of articulation, these have only the jaw. Quetzalcoatlus would have been much cooler with a turnable head. But then I wanna start dreaming and think of turnable legs and foldable wings so I guess it's too much to ask from a toy and we can be glad to get so many new dinos. After all, this is the first wave motivating me to get a set Oh and I like that there are so many colours. Like the 2nd T-Rex with it's reptilian like spring-olive green.
