  1. Another worm build! Totally different approach too. I really like how yours turned out. I think my favorite thing about the build is as Commander Turtle said - the cinematic quality. That first shot with your minifig standing on the tip of the rock before an awesome beast and the waves crashing below sets the atmosphere perfectly. I also really appreciate the attention to story and effort involved there. I need to get on board with that as well. Good job!
  2. I really love that horse and agree with Kodan Black - how armed the robot is makes it so wonderfully hilarious. It really goes with the story. I also enjoyed the fact that by chance I saw your challenge build first and then saw the cactus alien make a triumphant, if harried, return here. Nice touch too placing Octan-styled armor on the horse. Great job!
  3. Oh I love this! I have been wanting to do a sky background like that, perhaps with forced perspective, for a time now, but your take on it goes beyond what I had considered. Very creative use of space and POV to get two time frames into one build and, beyond that, it's done really well. That's an amazing sunset! Great job!
  4. Working for me too. Thanks for setting this up!
  5. Wouldn't wish that either. I'm hoping a happy balance can be found, one that gives an incentive for early builds that does not outweigh late builds. Much of what I liked about the rules as they are (and why I voted no) is to somewhat reduce the growing strategic tendency to post all builds really late in the week. If the balance was ideal, with different but relatively equal strategic options for each, we would see a range of posting times based not only on when builders finished but strategic needs for the given week. It would not be my desire to add an additional layer of time-based build pressure into the mix (I feel that already ) and flip the tendency to post everything really late to posting everything really early instead. Fixes one problem and creates 1-2 more.
  6. Loving the convoy of ships and how you used the story.
  7. Thanks! Yeah that's sand. I had at one point made the sand dark tan, which did differentiate it from the mouth, but it didn't look right for the kind of sand I wanted. Maybe I will play with some other ways to do it. I have another idea for how to do the sand that I may try, but first I need to work on my weekly. I'm working on getting rendering working. It's funny - my test renders done in a thread elsewhere on the forum with help from a few members went off without a hitch after the troubles getting the right software and setup for my Mac. The problem I experienced last week and now this week is exporting from LDD to LDR format. Once I do that I can use LDView to convert the file to a POVRay file and then I can use POVRay for the Mac to render. The issue however has been either part errors (for Strong Gale there were some missing parts I fixed but one engine part rendered like a corkscrew not a lego part lol) or missing parts (this week's was missing around 50% of the bricks and they were just tiles and basic things - I can't rebuild that much of it in Bricksmith). I'll look at LDD to POVRay Converter again. I think it was PC-only at the time I looked. Maybe I can get around that somehow. The quest to fully render continues! Thanks! I had read the 24x24 stud size restriction and though to myself "wow, no problems there," but once I made the head I was like "oh oh." Thanks!
  8. Location: A06 - Guinevere Tags: Challenge 1, Kawashita, Guinevere Challenge 1: The Leviathan of Dindrane's Solitude Deep within the sands of Dindrane's Solitude a creature of immense proportions lurks...
  9. Haha! I enjoyed the Credit reference too. My paycheck isn't too big either and your pals have me beat also. Nice posing with the fighting on the ice ledge.
  10. Hah! Good job with the explosion although I really should not be congratulating you on that. That method for the ground works well for Guinevere. I think I'd like to see a couple more connected, but it works really well, especially with the dark tan interspersed. Congrats on your first build!
  11. Agreed. Great photography there. Nice little build too. The asteroids look great the way they are positioned with the craft.
  12. I don't think that's what's going on... I think most people agree an incentive for earlier posting to balance late posting would be ideal and the poll is simply asking if we wish to consider this rules amendment as one option to address it, since the way domination actually worked in practice came up this morning and was a surprise to some in the Rules thread. I don't think it has anything to do with anyone wishing to change things in their favor. It's simply exploring one option regarding the issue and there are likely other options as well, all in the interest of game balance and strategy. And really David FNJ hit the nail on the head above: the rules weren't anticipated to be working the way they are now in actual play on this point, which is why discussion came up now a few weeks in. That said, I actually voted not to change anything. It's a very interesting topic though and there's definitely points on both sides.
  13. My build last week just about killed me. Between multiple 2-3 am nights working on it and delaying other life activities with ramifications still being felt this week (and two builds to do!) I'm definitely not saying there's something wrong with taking the time you need to make a good build. I'd be the last one saying that and I'm not sure anyone is. I am, however, saying there should be something good about posting early and it would be nice if gaming the system to post late for strategic advantage also had a counter strategic consideration in balance, otherwise no one has incentive to post until the wee hours of Monday morning. I don't wish to see it go down that road, personally. Two things to consider and weigh between posting early or late would be nice in my opinion, that's all. It's not my desire to put undue pressure on builders or discourage taking your time, since I'm going to be one, given my nature, that always needs more time than there is. I just think it would be nice to have a little balance and some options to weigh so we don't only sit on builds until the last minute - it would still happen, and it would still have strategic value, and the time would still be there for anyone who needs it.
  14. One of the main reasons I vote no on issue one is early builds need an incentive because otherwise we are simply going to see everything posted on the last day in the last hours (or minutes) before the deadline. We are already headed that way. While I think I prefer leaving it as it is (first to 30 controls it for the week - even if someone brings more forces in that same week but at a later date, it takes time to mobilize and for control to switch over so the battle for control continues into the next week and that is realistic), there is at least still some smaller incentive to post builds early. I'm not sure if it's enough though, since the late posting group gets a reward on switchover of control also and gets control that week, so why bother posting early anyway? Same. It's not that I mind contributing to the team. It's more that it becomes too easy to get a couple useful things on a side really quickly. I'd like them to have real value and sense of accomplishment as a reward for building well. They are already out there, however, so I'm not sure if it's too late to make a credit sharing rules change.
  15. Rereading it, I think voting no means what you describe. I think. Thanks! Now I just have to think on it a bit.
  16. I think I want it to work this way, and here is my thinking behind it: Problem is, I don't understand the wording of the poll. "After every build is scored" could mean after all are scored, or it could mean after each entry. What am I voting for, yes or no to vote for the scoring to work I describe above in the conversation in the Rules thread? Omg I need more caffeine! I'll need to think about it as yes, it does slightly encourage rushing builds, too, it's just, by and large, I think having no reason to stop everyone from always posting at the last possible second is worse. It leaves no time to discuss and admire builds etc as everyone is starting to game responding to build posting trends and I fear in the future we will simply see almost all builds being posted right around the deadline for strategic reasons. Think it's better to have a good reason to post early as well as late.
  17. I think I prefer this way too. It does offer a reason to post early, in addition to offering alternate reasons for holding a build late. The second option just makes everyone post at the last possible second, which I think is not a great trend. It would be tempered by having a reason why posting early and posting late are both good - just for different reasons. More meaning and strategy behind doing one or the other. It does indeed open the "every second counts" box, but that isn't maybe so bad. How it would look is Faction A does indeed control the planet with 30 domination points at the end of that week, even though it also reads that Faction B has 40. How that might play out would be the following week control would switch over to Faction B unless they continued to fight it out. Just a thought.
  18. The lava and dark stone is really well done and I think the vegetation looks fantastic.
  19. Great build! The tire tracks are a nice touch.
  20. I really like the lava effect (like everyone else lol), the droid and the gates just above the lava. Good job!
  21. Oh my good god. I might like this one even better. That's just awesome.
  22. Love it! Mecha, gunboat, some troops, lots of missiles and pretty flowers. I mean what else could you ask for? Really nice work.
  23. Sure does. That's what Bob was seeming to be saying too. Sorry to re-confirm - I just wished to be absolutely sure I wasn't getting that wrong because I read the rule differently. Thanks!
