Interesting take on the matter, this reasoning makes a lot of sense to me. I check all the boxes, except for the second one, so count me with the hyper-specific interest club*.

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
Exetrius replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
My order arrived last Friday, yay! Spend a lot of time building with the new pieces over the weekend, didn't have the time to go online and upload this! I got a spare blue candle flame, a spare trans 'stud with bar', and a random drum lacquered silver large macaroni tile. Torso for the Monkie kid villainess was missing though, so I'll be mailing them about it. -

@Flak Maniak @MKJoshA @Grover Great hauls, guys! I have a somewhat similar order coming my way, hope to share it soon! :) -
I second these points. My love for Lego was sparked by Bionicle, especially after seeing Mask of Light: the Movie. I eventually distantiated from constraction building, moving to system completely. So for me, the fact that this is a system approach has added value.

You know, fine that pop culture of the west gets their fix, but it'd be nice if the license department at LEGO can now have a proper re-evaluation of anime series, so I can start submitting projects of my favorite shows. I do have faith in the designers that they will turn the typewriter from 'good' into 'great' though, and hopefully we get a new set of printed letters and numbers, it's been a while since the last set that offered that.
-
I'm pretty devastated. Typewriter could turn out rather good I reckon, a new set of letters and numbers to use in MOCs at worst, but the other two... When I heard "3 projects" I thought that it was bound to have at least one of the (in my book) cool projects (Bionicle, Ratatouille, Zelda), but no. Big shame.

We both have our own opinions of what creativity is, I'll leave it at that. And you can't make "universal appeal" comparisons without having sales numbers. The AFOL community is only a smaller part of the Lego-buying customers, so you should look at the appeal across the board, quantified in sales numbers. Anything, licensed or unlicensed, only appeals to a specific target audience, because nothing appeals to everyone. If TLG had limited itself to making the most basic, most universally recognizable things (houses, people and vehicles), the company wouldn't have become as big as it is; the specific things made it grow! Nice!

Those packs are never the clear polycarbonate, always frosted. Nothing wrong with what you got, but the renders they have of those parts (the official images) can be misleading. -
LEGO Hidden Side 2020

Promising setup for a third year! I hope this 'greater boss' will look similarly evil to Nehmaar Reem. I'm a bit cautious of that last sentence, in my ears it has this silly or comic undertone. I don't want another Jestro goofball villain. -
A treehouse and a piano are commonplace concepts found in everyday contemporary life, not exactly "super creative" if you ask me. However, they are very well-executed versions of the the concepts they represent. By comparison, I think the Ship in the Bottle or Old Fishing Store are more creative/inspired (by concept) than the Treehouse. In my opinion though, turning an interesting licence into lego form can be just as creative, as long as it is a challenging and inspired design. The Flintstones project is a good example of this.

Latest impact of other themes on historic themes

I like those wings, nice for use on angels and other winged creatures, but also for architectural decoration. -
It's the same principle. The elves in your forest X might enter adulthood at age 18, while in someone else's forest, Y, that might be at age 150!

I had this too. Not pleasant, but it works. General advice to all: duplicate your tab before clicking "Confirm Order", it will duplicate your cart as well so you have a back-up. A lot is available this season, which is great! As per usual, I had a very large wanted list and ended up with a rather select order. Picked up a number of expensive pieces, the 2.66€ Red Son hair particularly was a stab in the wallet... -

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
Exetrius replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
This is what the guidelines say: My take on this is that you generally shouldn't bring up your project in threads outside of the one dedicated to your creation, but using your signature for Ideas promoting is definitely fine. Lately I personally feel that moderation in the Ideas discussion thread has been slipping a bit, with (mostly new) members plugging their projects and asking for votes. Having an Ideas project myself (which is definitely in need for votes), the temptation to do the same is growing, but that's just not how it's supposed to be. Btw, I'd revive your old Saberkitty, since it's relevant again that should be fine.- 991 replies

CHALLENGE V: Category A: Off-Course Contingent
Exetrius replied to jtooker's topic in Guilds of Historica
Ooh, it's always great to see a build in an area that has't been portrayed much! Guess even most builders are scared to build in those woods! But not you, brave one! I like your ground vegetation and the little stream, but for the larger trees I'd also say that a bit more clearance of branches would benefit the scene, especially in the dark. Nice patches of colour on the ground itself. Looking forward to your next builds!- 10 replies

Very life-like posing on the characters! Great dusty back-office vibe you have going on! Out of all the ornaments found in the room, I think (almost comically) broadly suspended chandelier is my favorite, though the statue in the wall holding a key is a good second. Enjoyed the story, too (Hail Hydra the Fioris!). One thing that IMO can be improved on is the floor and border: the black tiles and black cheese slopes blend, while there is supposed to be contrast. Gold cheese slopes all the way might have worked, or lowering the border so that the black parts in the floor and border don't touch, I think. Keep it up, man!

I'll echo what the others said about the colours: it all works surprisingly well! Also, the white bits on the architecture look especially good to me. And the trees, river and flowers really help to break up the 'stiffness' of the heavy architecture, and breath some more life into the scene. Great build!

Well yes, "Bionicle" was implied in "the fanbase", but maybe that wasn't clear enough. Anyway, I was trying to stress that the Bionicle fanbase as a whole really deserves some love in the form of a set. It would mean a lot to them.

Thanks a LOT! That's not cheap though, I'm not going to take the pain for all of them, maybe two, but for the rest I'll wait for a price reduction. Heck, I'll be waiting anyway because B&P is still closed here.. -

Oh, glorious! How were the hairpieces priced, particularly the red one and the white one?
