  1. Yeah, I think the line will be dominated by CW, the movie currently in theaters, and the movie about to be released in theaters. We will be lucky to get two OT sets a year besides UCS sets.
  2. Agreed. Glad we're getting some unique minifigs to help warrant a very large purchase price.
  3. A GR-75 would be nice, but it would be tough to sell to kids. Am I the only one that doesn't want an Ion Cannon? It's much too big, just look at it compared to a turret. If they made it it would be too small and laughable.
  4. Lego USA still has no mention of the new sets.
  5. The set comes with a micro star destroyer that should be to scale, or at least close to it. Assuming the Executor is 4 ft long, the ISD would need to be about 4.3 inches. The midi-scale ISD is 10 inches. Micro would be a better scale, and even better if the SSD is not quite 4 ft long.
  6. 100 from Lego possibly, but isn't it a Limited Edition? So looks like itll be 119.99 at TRU due to their markup.
  7. Stopped by the Lego store in Cincy, Ohio; they have no idea when the sets will come. The employee there went so far as to say he thinks the US won't get the summer line till October. I'm thinking early August, guess we'll see what happens.
  8. Two fit, they'll just have to be properly straddled in the cockpit. If it worked in the old Falcon it'll work in this one. Sucks about the landing gear, but the bottom is so ugly I'll have to display it at an angle where the bottom won't be seen anyway.
  9. I understand how you feel. My collection only spans one wall, but even then I get comments from some people that visit of "Why?"...or if they don't say it, you know they're thinking it. If your collection is as big as you're describing it, then I bet everyone gives you a few negative comments. All I hope is that you can afford all these sets and aren't hurting your family by buying so many. Be glad that they hold their value relatively well, if you had to sell them you could make a lot money. That said, definitely post some pictures. We're all envious of such a huge collection here.
  10. Did we ever confirm the landing gear doesn't fold up? It would appear that it will with this picture, the ship is being tilted and the front gear is starting to fold forwards.
  11. Impressive as always. Really like those translucent blue pieces.
  12. If you used a design model that functioned at a certain cost, and then removed pieces until it got to a certain price range, then of course. The Death Star is a great set. Why? Because it adds playability with scenes from the movie. The cell block, the trash compactor, the conference room, etc. Every room is a winner...even rooms that weren't shown like the cargo bay are fine, because they got so many other rooms right. I own it, it's wonderful. Echo Base? Well, this set is something...it resembles a base of some sort...but not Echo Base! There is a problem if you remove all the figurines and you can't tell what it's supposed to be. They could change the color scheme and sell this as a Space Police Base. It looks like the old Spyrius space line I had as a kid. IT IS NOT ECHO BASE. I said it would sell. I said it would be fun for kids. I said it was good business. It just looks nothing like Echo Base. Now I worry about the next Jabba's Palace, because it will likely be the same thing. I want sets that when people see them, without the minifigs giving it away, they would say "Hey, that's _____ from Star Wars." It's not that hard. Ignoring the fact the DS had walls, let's look at Battle of Endor where the set opened up so you could get your hands in there. You don't need full walls, just a doorway arch would be fine. This set has two of them, that lead to...nothing. Did I say I expected perfection? I don't even expect that in the UCS line. I expect a set to resemble the movie. I don't think they do care, hence why I brought it up. Which is why I brought that up. I'd love for designers to actually speak with AFOL's on which sets they built, and why they chose to do what they did. Some sets are so great while others are dirt poor. Do they work together at all? Are their good designers (those Pod-racers, another great "Larry" set) and bad designers (we let "Fred" design all the exclusive sets)? I don't know, that's why I'm asking. I want to hear why they did what they did for sets. You conveniently ignore that I said TLG runs a great business. It still doesn't mean I can't complain as prices rise and accuracy gets less important. Maybe if they talked to us about these choices I wouldn't have to guess why there was no film accuracy in this set. Whatever the reason, when a set labeled Echo Base looks nothing like Echo Base, I'm going to be annoyed. I'm not the only one..check out what others say here, or Brickset, or FBTB. The majority is displeased. The people that are happy seem to be the kids, the "OOOMMMGGG tht is so awesome i need it!!!" responses. So TLG, yes, on the business end you nailed it as always. However, maybe next time try to please both parties? This conversation is civil. You just aren't going to convince me that this set is film accurate and to accept that as a positive.
  13. Holy crap. I will never doubt your love for all of LSW ever again.
  14. Brickdoctor has averaged over 18 posts a day! That's dedication right there.
  15. Mutley, I demand to know why I'm seeing no Snowtroopers! Do you not like them?
  16. Let's not sugarcoat it, it's dumbing down. I understand it's a business though, having just one less piece removes X cost, multiplied by tens of thousands. All I want to know is when there's a clear ship error that could have been fixed, I wonder if it was already fixed...and became a casualty of fitting the set into a certain price range. Who said anything about us building the set in any way? All I'd like is to be polled for ideas about sets...which ships are important, which characters are important, which areas are important. Once again, I'm not complaining about kid-friendly elements. Flick-fire missiles, icicle traps...whatever. That doesn't bother me at all...what does bother me is that a good designer could make a set that is both kid-friendly AND remotely accurate to the source material. It reeks of laziness to blob everything into one room, and the apparent lack of checks and balances (5-7 people decide basically everything? If that?) is discomforting. You can look at every forum there is; the vast majority of AFOL's are incredibly displeased with this effort. But it'll sell. It'll sell because the collect 'em all mentality, the unique minifigs, the unique parts. What's worse is that I can't tell TLG that they blew it this time. They can look at the profits and say "Hey, we made money, no need to try harder". Let's make a cantina set now that has literally no resemblance to the actual cantina. Do they know if people are unsatisfied with their sets? Do they even care? I'll save this set with a MOD, but this will be the largest MOD I've ever had to do on a System set. I'm just worried that along with ever rising prices, future accuracy will plummet now that they know we'll buy whatever as long as new minifigs are included.
  17. I've always been curious as to how TLG makes decisions on their sets. Similar to, say, Wonka's Chocolate Factory, we're given a product that's secretly designed, and for a customer that has no say in what they're getting. It's all shrouded in mystery. Take for example the new Hoth set: While I did my best to defend it in another thread, if you remove the figures from this set there is NO WAY anyone would be able to tell this is a Star Wars set. How does that happen? More specifically: -How many people design a set? -How many people have to give a set approval? -Does LucasArts ever turn down a set? -Why aren't the customers polled for set ideas, and not for box sizes? -When designing a set, is the builder told to work with a certain piece count? Does this make him/her essentially dumb down a set if they've designing something better over a set piece count? I could go on and on...but I don't know why TLG doesn't work with their customers, especially the AFOL's when it comes to designing sets. TLG has great customer support when I contact them, I don't understand why that support doesn't seem to branch out to communication with their customers about what they do. Am I wrong for being annoyed at the closed off nature of TLG? Do they talk to us and I'm not aware of it?
  18. The Snowspeeder and X-wing are in other sets that are on the shelves. It's just good business sense to not have a second set you can get these vehicles in. The Taun-Taun is in the set. In one of the pictures it isn't shown but it's there. Yes, a commanding officer would have been nice, along with other features. Can't please everyone with a $100 set. The shield bunker had the benefit of being small and easy to recreate...Echo Base is much bigger with many more unique features.
  19. Well, you could have just opened all the bags and dumped them in a pile! The numbered bags make it easier for some people but by no means do you have to open the bags when required. I think a bump is needed...this set could be disappearing sometime soon. This is easily the greatest SW set there is. Anyone who doesn't have it needs to get it before it's gone.
  20. Depends how many sellers you have to go through because of shipping costs...but yeah, some sets could be cheaper. I prefer to have the box and manual though, so I only use BL for the occasional hard-to-find part instead of buying sets, I have better luck with eBay for sets. Bricklink sets the market value, and eBay auctions usually end slightly lower. I prefer pick-a-brick online for new pieces(overpriced, I know), and the wall at a store to stock up on parts for cheap. It's a fun game seeing how many pieces you can stuff into a cup.
  21. No, they discontinue parts, colors, and stickers. A third party seller is the only way to get all the parts you need for certain sets.
  22. I am...going to resist debating that statement. Anyways, there are no worries about TLG ending the license anytime soon.
  23. Pretty sure license has been renewed till 2016...but it'll keep going as long as it's profitable. As for Jar Jar, well, I'd just eliminate TPM altogether. The years between I and II are so many that both Anakin and Obi-Wan are completely new characters. It's a worthless story.
  24. Wouldn't it have made the UCS poster though?
  25. Very nice, but wheres the Hoth love?
