  1. Well said, I think sometimes we forget what TLG is all about.
  2. I still have mine on display from all those years ago. The 'B' model is also worth a build as I think it is the only Technic model that had automatically working pneumatics
  3. Could they not a approve a contender for later release, it might counter things like the previous review where no ideas were selected.
  4. This set http://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Maze-21305 also comes with 4 orange balls and it would appear that you can order them as individual items from here wwwsecure.us.lego.com/en-gb/service/replacementparts/sale You may need to adjust the links for you own country.
  5. As my mum used to say, "It's never too late if you put your mind to it"
  6. They stole the idea from Rolls-Royce, who've been doing it for years
  7. I thought K'nex had the licence for Zelda, they already produce Mario Bros sets.
  8. You missed off the last piece of my statement, 'but some do seem to go into hibernation for a long time before someone finds a new use for it.' there used to be a video on TLG Technic pages where Marcus is talking about the design process, and he states that the designers have access to all the parts that have been designed, just because they haven't been seen for a while doesn't preclude them from making a reappearance, although for some of the very old parts I agree it is highly unlikely that we will ever see them again.
  9. Lego never retire a part, but some do seem to go into hibernation for a long time before someone finds a new use for it.
  10. I realise we are going slightly off topic, but I recently costed up someone else's MOC with a view to building it myself, once the cost rose over £500 I gave up, TLG has the same considerations people are already saying that the Porsche costs to much, the more functions/motors/details you put in the more the costs rise. Back on topic I'd like to see a really good bus/coach it's an area Lego have never gone with Technic.
  11. I like the fact that although this set has yet to be sold a couple of people have already 5* reviews, you never know it may turn out to be a pile of junk
  12. Ach, poor Grum, here's wishing a speedy recovery, I'm sure (positive) that the 8880 will be well worth the wait.
  13. It has to be 8880, as everyone says its a classic.
  14. Price wise it is what it is. If you like the set and want to buy it you have to pay the price TLG sets, yes that may make it difficult for some people as its not cheap, but if (like me) you save a few Pounds, Euros, or dollars every week then they become affordable. If you don't think it's value for money then don't buy it, simple really. And if I can make a prediction in 5 or 6 years time when you're thinking perhaps I will buy it after all, it will have quadrupled in value, because a lot of those who are buying on day one will be hiding them away in the hope that they can make a big profit at some later date.
  15. Can we have a picture of the underside?
  16. The problem is we do this in just about everything we own, the things we brought in our youth (and I'm a lady of half a century plus) will always be classic's because in someways we miss them, and all the extra work that they involved, as an example, my first car was started with a starting handle and on a winters morning could take 15 mins or more to start, my current car starts itself in seconds automatically when I sit in the drivers seat, a lot easier, but I still miss those that first car and all the extra effort that it entailed. Lego has come along in the same way, you have to rule out AFOL's (and us LFOL's), there primary market is NOT us, and in today's market there is a lot more competition out there so they need to sets that appeal to the widest possible audience, and one of the ways they do this is to make models look like the real thing by using panels, in my view it was a move they had to adopt if they wanted to keep peoples interest up when making a model, I'll quite happily sit here and pin together numerous beams to get a nice flat surface, the average 14 year old won't they need instant gratification and by using panels, Lego has given them that.
  17. I always used to shun Model Team sets as too 'toy like' and not an interesting enough build, having watched the review I wish i hadn't. Are the likes of the Mini and VW Camper the modern equivalent of Model Team?
  18. IMHO 8880 is an all time classic and will never be beaten Panelling seems to be the way that TLG are going I'm not 100% convinced yet, if you look at a set like 8868 it managed to have a pretty convincing look just using studded beams and a bit of imagination.
  19. I like to convert all my models so that the steering is on the 'right' side
  20. Nice build, it has been a pleasure reading your daily updates. As for next build (after the camper van), I think you've already decided, but I would go with '8274 Combine Harvester' its an interesting build. Lego also made a 'City' version of it, set number 7636
  21. It always makes me laugh when you see people selling current sets at highly inflated prices on eBay and other places.
  22. Many years ago I worked with the British Army Sales team (the only female) demonstrating Engineer equipment Chieftain AVLB and CET we also kept some museum pieces as well including the Churchill and Centurion AVRE and AVLB. Chieftain AVLB would be an interesting model with its 3 stage hydraulic system
  23. Looking forward to the Churchill AVRE SLB, as many years ago (40) I drove one for a demonstration.
