  1. An excellent implementation of a British Army classic, in the final days of the Churchill a track with rubber inserts was developed in a bid to reduce the amount of road damage, and noise that the steel tracks caused, so rubber inserts would not be entirely in appropriate, they were know by the drivers as 'Hush Puppies' and universally disliked as it was thought that there was to much slippage, especially cross country. I have only ever driven the Standard Churchill, never any of the 'Funnies' as they were known. The follow up Centurion AVLB used a similar system, but the bridge sat upside down on the body of the tank and was flipped over by a single (large) hydraulic ram. The M60 uses a system originally developed by Alvis in the UK which first appeared on the Chieftain AVLB, it would be an interesting one to model as it uses 3 sets of hydraulic rams, plus scissoring rods to launch the bridge.
  2. In short 'No', the left port can only have air going in, the right port can only have air coming out, the middle port, in and out, they were designed to work with V1 of the pneumatic system with single port cylinders (http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=4688c01#T=C) in which the air is sucked out in order to get it to retract.
  3. We are already getting the Apollo Saturn V rocket through the Lego Ideas system, http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=123268&st=50#entry2583318
  4. Perseverance wins the day, it'll all be worth it in the end
  5. Would this Part not work as a substitute, you may need to vary the scale
  6. 2 x 42030 new in box, 2 x 42008 new in box and 2 x 42009 1 built, 1 new in box, Brought from a friend for £100, (she wanted to give them to me), caught her husband cheating, everything must go.
  7. I think it would make sense to put the motor driving the wheel within the wheel, I don't have one yet but from the pictures I have seen it definitely looks possible, and then to drive the belt from the wheel.
  8. Good to see you back, and still keeping busy
  9. Is it just me but every time I look at this i think Citroen 2CV not a VW Beetle.
  10. Excellent review (as always), not to bothered about the 'playability' as most of mine get built and displayed only.
  11. Model Team - they produced some excellent models, and judging by the high prices people are asking for old sets still very much in demand.
  12. This would be good, my first Lego and Technic sets were universal sets, OK they did come with suggestions for a handful of models but for the most part the imagination took over and I built all sorts of weird and wonderful contraptions. With the spread of available parts that exists today I'm sure that we could build all sorts of wonderful things.
  13. The more I see of the 'B' model the more I prefer it over the 'A' model it's not hard to imagine a piece of machinery like this working 24/7 on a site somewhere, may have to spray it with rust though once its completed for that authentic look.
  14. 6502 assembler BASIC - many different versions C dbase 3 (Clipper) All a long time ago
  15. I don't know if it has been discussed here (and don't have time to plough through 28 pages to find out), but on the Juno spacecraft that has just reached Jupiter there are 3 special minifigs, https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/juno/news/lego20110803.html it would be nice if Lego were to make a special edition set.
  16. Finally finished rebuilding at the weekend and after rebuilding the main gearbox 3 times it all works perfectly - including outriggers on the one motor
  17. Studded Technic has a rigidity that is useful when building large sets take a look at the inside of 75059 UCS Sandcrawler set, that is basically built around a Technic frame.
  18. Why this obsession with box size? It goes in the bin 2 minutes after I've emptied it of its contents.
  19. I would love to rebuild my version of 8480, how ever when I broke it down for cleaning and rebuilding a couple of years ago I discovered that it hasn't aged well, with a lot of the half bushes splitting and the insulation on the wire had broken down, it is now rebuilt but I darn't touch it again. Currently rebuilding 42009, mostly to try and finally get the outriggers working
  20. Having worked on major engineering, and construction projects for a good number of years I have a good working knowledge of how to work most construction and engineering plant, and have at times been called upon to use it, although for some reason the men get upset when a mere woman plays with their big boys toys.
  21. Nice, sometimes the simple things if life are best.
  22. I don't think this is the place to be comparing one designers models to another, as we have no idea as to what constraints they are working under, or what assistance they received from other designers/TLG etc.
