  1. Escher!! I like how you made them similar, but still very different, like the original drawing. I've seen a few of his works "in the brick" now, and they all look fun and a little challenging.
  2. Very nice build - you definitely "piratized" the Sand Dollar Cafe with this. (Sand Doubloon Cafe, perhaps?) The cafe looks great and the rum cart is a natural fit. And I like all the different minifigs and their poses, especially the sleeping / hungover lifeguard, who just seems fitting in a Sea Rat setting. Is the surfer laughing at the unwitting skinny-dipper, or ogling the girl?
  3. Very nice layout. The chimneys are the highlight, but the whole arrangement looks good and the overall color scheme is great. Too bad we can't have another view!
  4. Beautiful, beautiful build. You've done a really good job recreating the original. The staircase is lovely, although you could get the convex look on the lowest course by using curved slopes with the studs facing out instead of in, unless it would mess up the rest of the design. The whole interior is fantastic. Of course the lovely staircase gets the most attention, and the stained glass ceiling is nice. You have quite the collection of printed floor planks , the chandeliers are neat, and of course the bookshelves and books are artfully done. I've been wanting to build something (a library, hopefully - just a coincidence) using multiples of the printed stained glass rose piece along with the sticker piece. You beat me to it, and showed just how good they can look it a MOC! Excellent work.
  5. Sorry to be going off topic, but... Do what?! How have I missed this? Approximately when was it released? Still available? It's not quite what I'm looking for, but it's a start.
  6. First of all, welcome aboard! Nice build. The first pic isn't showing, which is odd, because it did when this was first posted. I'm really liking those minifigs, and the beach, rockwork, and vegetation all look nice. As previously suggested, perhaps you could tinker with the brightness/contrast a bit to improve the presentation. Otherwise, you're off to a great start.
  7. "Gather 'round, everybody! Good noose tonight! It's a doubleheader!" Good job with the gallows. It looks pretty realistic. And I like the overall smoothness of the whole scene. But perhaps a few more redcoats would be handy, just in case... After all, that crowd is pressing close!
  8. Very nice build - a well-balanced composition all around. The vehicle is really nice and the station is cool. The sand pouring out of the ends is neat, too. My only suggestion is to use half-stud offsets on the vehicle tracks, although it might require building up the base a little more. Otherwise, great work.
  9. Thanks. (2 years on... ) Yes, this project needs a grand residence of some type. I'm thinking a stately place for the Master Gardener and his wife... Ah, gold. A lovely color if I may say so. Thanks. The big light blue plates came in a Friends set, I think? My first thought was "fountains" but of course that limited me to a very basic shape. And of course overwhelming the build in gold was, uh, not intentional or anything... Ah, but I'm only getting started! Maybe... Well, I like to think that, anyway! Yeah, King's Harbour does need a palace of some sort. Hmm... That would be... quite a project... In the spirit of fairness this probably shouldn't be licensed. (And the settlement already has all the "Arts & Cultures" it will ever need, right? ) I originally posted a slightly different version elsewhere (pics below) featuring the CMF King and Queen. But I really wanted it to be part of this project, too, so I decided to just include it here with the original gardens. And your characters' whereabouts just happened to work out, ~18 months after photography! Unfortunately our 3 look like jerks in the group pic, looking away while everyone else is looking in... I didn't really think about it until it was too late. Perhaps they were discusssing... important matters! Thanks. Corrington, being an orderly faction, should have orderly (and colorful) gardens. The centerpiece is basically a leftover from the original "Entry Garden." I planned to build 4 of them, with 2 in front and 2 in back, but didn't have the parts to finish the 4th, so I built this instead, with some modifications and additions, of course. And I really like your Gardens of Arlinsport, especially the way the paths converge in the center as a giant "X".
  10. This is ridiculously beautiful. The light blue is a very pretty accent color. The roof is great, the glasses-fence is cool, and all the other details and minifigs add up to a very nice setting. And the partial interiors add so much to the build, especially considering that so many facades have little to really show what they truly represent. Excellent. @Kristel I got the same thing when I checked the links - you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page to find them.
  11. Ok, gotcha! That's pretty much what I guessed based on your full comments.
  12. I'm not very knowledgeable with regards to PoTC. (A kid friendly series - about pirates?! Yeah yeah sure.) What was the East India Company up to in the films? About all I know is "We named the monkey Jack."
  13. I can't mentally picture all your ships, but this seems to be your best yet? The overall shape is nice, tumblehome is well executed, and the bow is reasonably tidy. I don't mind the classic blue on white, but an accent color would really make it stand out. The bowsprit is perhaps a bit short, and the shrouds are a little clunky. I think custom rigging, even very simple straight shrouds without ratlines, would improve the look noticeably. Especially for future ships for GoC. The cabin is a little blocky but fairly clean otherwise, and the lanterns are neat. But that one loose piece is visually jarring. It really needs to be pressed down! My biggest gripe is the lack of sails. Considering the nature of the free-build challenge, the builds should represent your best efforts. Any sails - standard LEGO parts, custom sails, furled brick designs, whatever - is better than nothing. (And as already stated, a true "snow" has an extra, short mast in back.) Overall it's a nice design, but I'd like to see one good pic with some form of sails before giving approval.
  14. Whoa... fantabulistic! Apart from the non-rendered pics this is extraordinary. All those details, inside, outside, above ground, underground, in the ground! The building is very attractive and the inner workings are very nice. I'd love to see this done in real bricks. Keep it up.
  15. What can I say? Excellent as usual. It's cool to see some variety. Looking forward to seeing where this goes, especially considering the destination. But... an edmucated woman? In colonial times?! Sounds... dangerous...
  16. The new Hairy Pottery, er, Harry Potter sets. (Not a fan, but I did buy a few... for the parts.)
  17. Viewed from the top this seems fairly simple, but it's a nicely detailed little scene. I think tiles look better on the stud ends of logs if you have them. The brick-built saw is nice in place of the actual accessory, and I like the style ax the worker is carrying vs the one nicely propped on the stump. The dark tan area really makes the work area stand out.
  18. Very nice. The birds are great, but I think the hardened lava and scorched plants is my favorite part. Good minifig posing and a nice scene all around.
  19. Beautiful build. The floor technique is fantastic. The dark red pieces might clash a bit with the others, but the rest makes a striking display. All the furniture is lovely, and I finally figured out what those decorated wallpaper bricks are and where they come from! All in all an excellent way to illustrate the story. And gotta love the new candles. (Took 'em long enough to make, if you ask me. Like some other things...)
  20. Yeah. Kinda funny, sometimes. "I have alllllll the answers." Except... usually not really. Forget GoT. I just want them to do "Game of Zones." I specifically want a set of Burner Ravens.
  21. The Majestic Gardens were not finished, and Sir Bricksalot was proud to present the latest addition: Regal Square. It was another symmetric arrangement with the usual hedges, shrubs, flowers, fountains, and fences, with a large flower bed serving as the focal centerpiece. The crowd enjoys the view of the centerpiece: The retired admiral, his wife, and 4 lovely daughters: (Left to right) Sir Dee, Cooke, and Montoya: And... someone must have told Sir Dee it was the Fountain of Youth: Notes: Dimensions are 80x80 (6400 studs). This was built and photographed in 2017, a few months after this topic was first posted. More additions were planned, but real life delayed that, so I decided to just add it to this topic. Happy building!
  22. Whoa... Now I'm confused. Were they not earning anything all this time? Ouch. That must really hurt. Sorry about all the posts. Is there a way to quote topics from multiple pages using the mobile editor?
  23. I'm curious... what are your reasons for feeling this way? The metrics? Big builds not being fun? Or something else...?
  24. It does. Sounds good to me! And yeah, that kind of counterfeiting is hard to deal with.
  25. Whoa. You mean Greenies actually have insecurities? *whisper whisper laugh whisper point fingers whisper* Hook, line, & (gold) sinker! If you want to show the world that you are FILTHY rich you build a statue of yourself, "trickling" gold.
