"It' is quite alright young master Bucks. What exactly do you think I am going to do to Lord Girgolis-stab him when you aren't looking?" Says Na'im with a hearty laugh -

Na'im exhales softly and wipes away a film of sweat off his forehead with the brim of his hat. Despite his dislike for contests of arms, he never felt so energised as he did when in battle. "Now we shall heal Lord Girgolis young master Bucks. Patience, you see, is a virtue that comes with age. I would rate it higher than magical ability myself-what is power after all without discipline?" Na'im heals Girgolis from the back row -

"Spoken like a true warrior. It seems brawn isn't everything is it lady Nayasto?" Says Na'im haughtily, looking over Kiray's collection of weapons with some disdain "You see lady Nayasto, if you ever grow tired of bashing peoples heads in and decide to relinquish the sword, you will come to realise that healing is a much more delicate and imprecise art than swordsmanship or even spellcasting -particularly given the lack of finesse in battle in this day and age. With healing, and especially under the heat of battle, I fail as often as I succeed-sometimes I feel brimming with etheric energy yet other times I feel as drained as if I had run from Eubric to Luosh. Indeed, I have my work cut out keeping you lot all on your feet in the first place!" -

"All in good time young master Bucks, all in good time. Let us begin with what we know we can do first-a dragons physiology is very different to that of a human or an elf, therfore healing it may be more of a challenge." Says Na'im reassuringly "It seems you have yet to learn the talent of patience young master Bucks." Adds Na'im -

"Freinds of yours young master Bucks? They could certinly pass for you upon merely listening to them!" Na'im says with a chuckle, but turning to inspect the party, the smile soon vanishes from his face. Beaten, bruised and exhausted (mostly), were they in any position to take on these spectres? "Lady Kiray, you are in no position to take down these fiends-and I fear we shall need your help before this battle is won-let me heal you briefly." Na'im says crisply Na'im heals Kiray from the back row "It will take us some kind of mirciale to make it through this" he mutters to himself through gritted teeth -

"You would abandon us then just because you dislike some our views?" Na'im says incredously "I may not like or agree Lady Mideruns viewssometimes master Mihnak and I may dislike her methods, but I have stuck through this quest, even though many times I have felt like mutineeing as well-why? Because that is our job and I am here to get the job done, not get distracted by ethics and rights or wrongs. No you wil stay here and finsh the job, yes, to the bitter end, whatever that may be" "You wrong me Lady Bain. I am perfectly aware of the sacred relationship between a dragon and its rider. But picture this lady Bain-if we rescued master Eckmar. but Lord Girgolis was killed what effect would it have on your Fiancee...the loss would drive him insane. We have no choice lady Bain-If we want to rescue your fiancee intact, mentally as well as physically, then we have to rescue Girgolis as well." Na'im turns to Germ and hands him the prison master key "Do what you will my friend. If all else fails, try to rescue master Eckmar at the expense of GIrgolis." Na'im also equips the Nimbus-deluxe broomstick Na'im turns to the shady figures and attempts to distract them with small talk "It's Gomex isn't it? Now tell me master Gomex how did you wretches come to the surface in the first place? The last time I saw you fiends, you were a bunch of shattered corpses on the ground. I was part of the company that slew you the first tiime you know-it seems I have come back to finish the job." Na'im hestiates and waits for Miderun's approval before attempting to free the dragon -

"These fellows may be corrupted beyond redemption master Mihnak but they are still mortal and anchored to this plane of existence. Even if they are not, Kiray's katana looks of fine enough make to send any undead back to their accursed releam and between Elnaths spell power and my healing skills we should be able to make short work of them." Na'im says not sounding entirely convinced in his own words "But it is this spell tome that troubles me. Language comes naturally to me, but the wording is so convulsed, even I cannot be sure of the spell's real effect-all I reconise is the word 'apratha' or bonds and 'liethra' which means a measure of. But If we have even a chance to free the dragon I would say we should go ahead." -

"I may have a soloution" Na'im says tapping his hands upon the book. "I should be able to weaken the bonds around Girgolis using one of the incantations I learned from this book, but there is a chance it may backfire and strengthen the bonds around him instead. The question is: is that a risk you are prepared to take:i?" Na'im asks, directing the last part towards Bain and Miderun Na'im nods at Bain"I see. Yes at the time when I left Fenario the six of them were firmly locked up undeground. Things have greatly changed in Fenario since my departure it appears-you must tell me about the situation underground one of these days" Na'im turns to Girgolis "Well met master dragon. It is a rare pleaure to meet a fighter quite so esteemed as yourself-I used to be a vindictor of the brotherhood of the red angel you know-perhaps you remember me...or maybe not." Na'im coughs rather hastily "At any rate can you tell us where your rider is and why we should rush ot his aid, while you seem greatly...weakened yourself?" Na'ims tone is not disprespectful but he speaks with a lightness of tone as if he and the dragon, being both fighters of old were just old friends "Now hold on a moment lady Miderun-it seems that time is running ou for lady Bain's fiancee as well-and if my supicions about Oswains treatment facility are correct-and my predictions are right more often than not-then it is of crucial importance that we get Eckmar out of there sooner rather than later. I am not saying we should abandon master Girgolis, but perhaps we should send a group to check on Eckmar as well?" Na'im says anxiously -

"Hand it over to me master Germ. Having been born in Spelesia myself, I may have more luck at deciphering its' contents" if Germ hands over the book Na'im flicks through the book to get a general idea of its' content "On first name terms are we now lady Bain? Truly it would seem this continent has grown a lot stranger since my departure. Whom be this drake and how do you know of him?" Na'im says, keeping well out of the way of the dragons corrrosive spit -

Before Na'im leaves he scoops up a few choice manuscripts. It was nothing compared to his collection back in Fenario, before he was forced to leave, but it was a start anyway. Heading back to the door, he dangles the key before the rest of the party "Unless anyone has any objections..." he begins as he prepares to unlock all three doors -

Na'im returns to the quarters with Bain and Germ, and, careful not to step in any of the pools of blood, inspects the bookshelf, the map and counters on the table (including checking underneath it for the keys), and the helmet in the alcove with a detectives eye -

"As it always is with the young" says Na'im sagely, but still calling over a great distance "They fly so high and for a brief while they are indeed at the top of their game, but always time gets the better of them and they are forgotten or die tragically, but power-true power lady Nayasto-surely lies with those who have survived long enough to see the passage of the ages and one thousand or more victories under their belt, would you not agree?" -

"No, no, no!" Says Na'im frantically and scrambles away from the rocks "What on Olegia are you doing-are you so quick to forget master Germ and master Mihnak's encounter with those statues? You should know better than to dabble in matters you do not understand around these parts-Spelesia is not like your Baltarok or Uland it is much older and much more dangerous!" -
Heroica RPG - Quest #136: The Sorcerer's Stone
Enceladus replied to Purpearljellyblob's topic in The Heroica Archive
"I dare say it is possible master Mihnak. My estimate is that these rocks date from the days before the schism when Valashara was full of life and light, but alas although I can remember when a happy day spent under the eaves of the city, I cannot discern their purpose. Still, the set-up reminds me more of a kind of arena than a temple-and what is the point of an arena without an opponent? We barely prevailed against Oswain's lieutenants back in the quarters, and we are in no condition to fight another battle with a foe we do not even understand, and the Fenari and Alpieth were never the sole-or indeed the strongest-powers in this land. If my word counts for anything around these parts, then I strongly advice we do not attempt to shift these rocks-there has to be another way." Says Na'im cautiously, eyeing the rocks suspiciously -

"Control yourself lady Bain!" Hisses Na'im "Despite our efforts in the quarters, I expect there are still sentries around who might overhear you and I would rather that wasn't the case. I agree with master Germ however-our best option seems to be to check the star elves' corpses for a master set of keys-that or try to blow open the door." -

One phrase in particular resonates in Na'im: 'This isn't our job.' He appears to loose all energy and rubs his spectacles feeling suddenly tired. Hadn't that been his philosophy ever since he left Fenario: leave the fighting to the younger more zealous generation while he stayed at the sidelines, content to quietly take his reward, of gold and surviving through yet another year. Was this the old Na'im, who was willing to fight and argue and draw swords at the slightest insult showing through? This wasn't him. And it had taken Mihnak's words to make him realise that. He would have to do better in the future-the pleasures of life were still too sweet for him to leave behind...not yet. "Very well master Mihnak...perhaps you are right and perhaps you are wrong. But now is not the time to make such hasty descions. Let us wait untill we are forced to make a choice, before we head to the capitol. Who knows-Oswain may put a sword in our back long before we reach Valashara." Na'im says hoarsely, his voice seemingly drained of all emotion "But I stand by Lady Miderun, master Mihnak. In every situation there have to be rules or all is chaos, and our work as mercenaries turns into an orgy of senseless killing-and my rule is to stay loyal to the party and fulfill our contract. But you master Mihnak...what rules do you live by? What rules do you work by?" "And I look forward to hearing your tale master Mihnak-perhaps when we are back in the hall and I have a glass of Charisian red in front of me and a full pipe to smoke.." Na'im trails off OOC: Sure thing-good luck on your course! -

Na'im rasies the Nimbus deluxe and swishes it through the air, admiring its speed and the lightness of its grip "This truly is a finely balenced weapon indeed" he says grudgingly and walks over to Major El-Aquist's body "This one is for you major-perhaps I shall kill your master with it, hmm?" Na'im chuckles and raps the broomstick on the majors helm Na'im makes a sound of exasperation "This is war master Mihnak-one man's hero is another mans villian! How difficult is it to get that into your head?! I see no reason to view the star elves as those in the right and the Fenarians as those in the wrong. Certinaly both sides have done things wrong but there is a time to remain impartial and that time is now! Why, if we had found Narie or Hysmeith strug up back in Krimwood would we be having this argument? I think not. You are just too blinded by your supposed 'great ethics' that lead you to want to save the forest!" Na'im sighs "When we start having discussions like this, and you begin to forget your reasons for coming to Spelesia in the first place, that is when to realise that this whole quest was a bad idea from the start" he muses to himself -

Enceladus replied to Purpearljellyblob's topic in The Heroica Archive
"No I do not understand why you sympathise with the star elves master Mihnak-nothing I have said or learnt while here has made me want to defend Krimwood, and you have yet to give me a concrete reason for why you try to protect it. But you speak of impartiality Master Mihnak, and you preach friendship between the satr elves and the Fenarians, but nothing you have done makes me think of balence. Always it was the star elves and the gaurdians and never ever the Fenarians-when you have lived under the tyranny of generations of Alpeith rule, diligently waiting for the chance for your champion to ascend ot the throne, only then to be driven underground, fending off encroaching monsters every other week and going for days without food, when you have seen your friends under the control of a demonic puppeter and have had to strike them down, then and only then will you be in a position to judge my prople and perhaps then you will not look upon them so harshly." Na'im sighs "Oswain attacked you in cold blood master Mihnak, just because you were a foreigner-or have you forgotten already? He is unstable and untrustworthy, yet still you seek to side with him. Good luck I say, for I do not believe he will look upon you well if you turn up looking to be recuited into his next genocidal rampage!" says Na'im with a forced laugh Na'im smile wryly " 'Master' is a sign of courtesy and respect Mihnak and is as much part of my tounge as Bobby's mannerisms are part of his. In days gone by, most all elves, Alpeith or Fenari, were as cultured and spoke as thus, but I am one of the few Fenari who can remember the days before the schism, and alas it seems millenia of isolation have led to a degradation in language among both my people and the Alpeith." "No." states Na'im simply "Master Van Cleef you cannot serously be considering listnening to this little man! He wishes to side with Oswain, and it seems clear to me we do not need the General or any of his forces geting any stronger-they nearly destroyed us here! Oswian's hostility changes everyhing-he commands respect, even fear amongst both the star elves and the gaurdians, and whatever our personal motivations we cannot consider letting the artefacts end up in the hands of one of our sworn enemies-Lady Miderun, you have always seemed reasonable, and Master Germ my old friend, surely you have your head in the right place-fair lady Bain you too have the wisdom of thousands of years of experiecne-will you not back me up here?"
