  1. Hello everybody, Here's my modification of the B-model of the 42042 crawler crane. It has power functions with remote control. The motors are used for slewing, moving the trolley and for hoisting/lowering the hook. the base is still provisional, also the hook and the hoisting wire still have to be added. as it turned out the crane has a good weight balance, it stays upright even with the the batterybox removed. Later I'll upload a video and I'll do a load test. The spring is used to keep the tension on the trolley wire, the trolley itsel is a little bit colour vomit, but I lack the correct parts And the last photo, together with the the modification of the A-model of the 42042 I hope you enjoyed it, feel free to comment
  2. A large TBM (tunnel boring machine) with the gear racks for the drilling head and maybe to put the concrete tunnel sections in place. The track links could be used to make a conveyor belt inside to take away the 'dirt'.
  3. My thoughts exactly, and add a lot of led lighting for some 24hour digging
  4. Hello, I finished my mod of the arocs 42043 I made the truck shorter, it's driven by remote control. I also added an airtank and pneumatic stabilisers, all the pneumatic controls are moved to one side. The crane is foldable, but is lacking a grabber which was replaced by some chains
  5. Hello All, I just started to modify my Arocs, I decided to shorten the Arocs and to put two front wheels instead of 4, I like that type of truck more. The Arocs is PF controlled with a servo motor and 2 L-motors. It also will feature an air tank, pneumatic stabilizers (non-extendable), a slightly smaller foldable crane with hook-lift and tiltable bed. Untill now the chassis is more or less built. The pneumatic stabiliser has been installed for future reference (will be adapted later)
  6. Hello guys, To celebrate the new year, I made a second boom on my crawler crane. Here are some pics (sorry for the bad quality) and a 'promotional video' of my crawler crane
  7. I really like the turntable support, with that, a decent and stable crane construction would be possible
  8. I must say that the 42009 looks good on the crawler tracks of the 42042, it looks well balanced, and just the right size
  9. I voted very good, It's the set that brought me out of my 'dark ages'. I only dissassembled it again when the 42009 came out.
  10. 6: 10 9 :6 15:4 17:3 5: 2 2: 1
  11. Hello All, Here's my version of the 42042 crawler crane: All functions are independently controlled: - slewing: L-motor. It's still in the same location as in the original 42042 - luffing: M-motor - hoisting/lowering: M-motor - driving: 2 L-motors The boom, the luffing arrangement and the cab have also been remodelled The crane is still a WIP, maybe I have to add a little bit of counterweight. One batterybox is not enough when there's a load in the hook; the original slewing mechanism doesn't work good whe the boom is leaning forward. Also I still hope to do the motorized grabber, maybe with a shorter boom
  12. After I've built the model, my biggest 'complaint' is that the connections between the 3 submodels of the chassis is too weak. To me it feels that these assemblies are still hanging loose. For the rest it is a really nice model with some very ingenious construction solutions. My next project is to modify the crane according to efferman's crane mod. Like this the truck looks better overall.
  13. Hello everybody, I got yesterday my copy of the crawler crane and today I started building it. As I was not a fan of the propulsion arrangement I started to adapt it right away. I just finished the drivetrain. The tower and the boom will follow
  14. definitely the cab should be made a bit bigger, also the arrangement of the luffing wire should be moved more to the back
  15. For sure the metal hook it is a must have for every lego technic crane
  16. great alternative model, I think I'll buy the 42038 just to build the crawler crane.
  17. The new 42042 Is for me a definitely a must-buy. Especially because it's a crawler crane with a lot of cool functions and for a change a different color than yellow. For me personally I like the B-model a lot and that will be the model that i'll modify to build an ultimate towercrane. I don't like the A model of the 42042 that much, mainly because an esthetic point of view. There are a few design issues, that could've been done differently. I hope for the final release they have changed the way the boom is suspended. the frame of the luffing wire normally is positioned as far aft as possible, als the technic links go all the way to the top of the main boom instead of ending up half way of the boom. I would also add the normal steel hook.
  18. Hello all, Here are some pictures of an addition to my crawler crane. I've added a second boom to have more outreach and to increase the total height of the crane. Due to weight restrictions, I had to take out a section of the main boom, and the wire has been reduced from 4 to only 2 falls. The secondary wire is now used to adjust the height of the second boom.
  19. There are actually 3 IR Receivers, 2 in the upper body and 1 in the drive train. The IR receiver in the drive train is situated just after and beneath the rotation disk. I saw in photos of liebherr cranes that those cranes have struts to prevent the boom raising at a too high angle, or even topping over when raised too far. I copied that with those shocks. Also it keeps tension on the string when lowering the boom from an elevated position, when the relative weight of the boom is low. Once the boom is below a certain angle the relative weight increases thus tensioning the wire by itself.
  20. I'm finally able to post more photos, after some tutorials , here they are... More photos will follow when I Installed the runner wire, I'm alo designing a second boom to create areally ultimate crawler crane
  21. Here's the video: Driving and slewing was done with the IR speed controller, hoisting and lowering the boom is done by a normal IR controller
  22. It doesn't have a gearbox it's full RC, I'll upload more photo's when I can
  23. Hello All, As I am a big fan of cranes in general, and especially crawler cranes, I decided to make my MOC of a Crawler crane. With the most anticipated introduction of the 42042, which I definitely will buy, I decided to put the pictures of my first MOC online. It's my first build since i don't know how many years. The Crawler Crane is an ultimate build with full PF functions. Independent track driving Slewing Boom hoist Runner (winch is installed but the wire is not rigged in these photos) Main hoist I've been working at it since a few months and since the original build I already modified a lot of things but the crane is still far from completion. I'm always open for suggestions Another photo
