I agree with you that in minifigure scale, there definetly should be a minifigure. I was worried if I could make enough room with the Interceptor, but eventually I did. With TIE-fighter the canopy might need to be a little bigger than when building in Jerac's style. I still think that Jerac's version is the best compromise anyway. -Samppu

It will be approximately 4 x 6 "modules" in size, where a module is 32 x 32 studs plate. We use them in our Finnish LUG "Palikkatakomo" to build enormously big collective builds. Senate building itself will be 2 x 2 modules at its bottom, so not very much bigger than two official star destroyers side by side. The optical illusions and other tricks are the way to make it look enormous. Here is the idea of the scale (texts in Finnish, sorry): So the underground of Coruscant will be 10 bricks tall and above it will be microscale buildings next to these mammot buildings that can accomodate minifigures. I'm just not patient enough not to share some in progress pics... ;) -Samppu

Hello, I am starting here a moc about Coruscant that will include: Senate Building Republic Executive Building Padme' Apartment Republic Shipyard with Acclamator Assault Cruisers as seen at the end of EP II Coruscant Underworld 1313 Scenes from above Coruscant: Battle of Coruscant, Naboo Escort and Republic LAAT carrying Obi-Wan, Mace and Yoda I post here some interesting points of progress every now and then, starting with Naboo Fighter for the escort and Senate Podium for the Senate Rotunda. Naboo Fighter still needs some minor upgrades but pretty much ready. It has two spring-loaded shooters that can be launched by pressing a button at the bottom or by pulling the joystick in the cockpit. The canopy slides also open by pressing a button, there are fiber wires to make this happen inside. Inside the structure there is a blue proton torpedo that can be launched up to 3 meters by pulling a button. With senate podiums I try to make an optical illusion by building them in three different sizes to make the rotunda look enormous. The minifigure scaled podiums are to be accessed from the great hall of the Senate Complex. -Samppu

I agree with you, Jerac's TIE-Fighter is my favorite one, too. I copied the idea of canopy from him and used it on TIE-Interceptor. I did the motor and the backside of the fighter to be more accurate thought, and for such a small craft also did the wing panels by three layers of plates instead of the way in the official TIE-fighter set. Have to say, I've been pretty happy with the interceptor. And this TIE-fighter is also worth to mention, even though I much prefer the Jerac's version, this includes a minifig. https://www.flickr.com/photos/128763488@N07/18900143900/in/photostream/lightbox/ -Samppu

See I'd love to: More Clone Commanders. Gree and Neyo are just perfect. - Cody (phase II) - Bacara 501st legion troopers with blue insignia. Galactic Marines Jedi from the movies, NOT from the Clone Wars animation series. - Ki Adi Mundi - Plo Koon - Ayyla Secura - Shaak Ti Episode III Characters. - Mas Amedda - Separatist leadership, other than Nute Gunray. Doesn't greatly matter who. San Hill and Passel Artenge could do. - Bail Organa (and his Tantive IV with Captain Antilles, battle dirty Obi-Wan and Yoda ? ;) ) Rebel Army Characters. We have now a good number of Imperial Navy and Army members, but we need more rebels to fight them. - Any of those rebel troops or technicians we see at the end of the Episode IV or in the Hangars of Yavin or Echo Base or in the Home One Cruiser -Samppu

Very impressive! I love the amount of detail you have made into it in this scale. Moving legs are a great bonus, though it is a pity if they are not sticky enough to stand alone for a long time. Maybe using some other technic parts? -Samppu

Simply marvellous. Right away to my favourites! -Samppu

Great! If TLaabs makes the C'Baoth and Karrde with Mara scenes, there is not so many scenes left anymore and as TLaabs said, Kashyyyk shouldn't be too bad for someone who has already built one and wants to contribute. I can make Luke and Mara both at the prison door and confronting the Scout Troopers as a team. This somewhat depends what kind of red line we want to use in the trailer. I have many ideas for the script, too, so I say that TLaabs and I start brainstorming and writing the script. I was thinking about two theme lines. First the idea of a new era where the New Republic rules and the beaten Empire has found a new, intelligent and powerful leader. The second theme line would be about the new kind of atmosphere in the new era where the difference between friends and foes is not as clear as it was during the Rebellion. These theme lines should be depicted with selected scenes from the movie that proceed about in the same order as in the original book. E.g. the opening should be the New Republic Navy over Coruscant that would be very powerful metaphor of a New Era rising even without any kind of text. The friend-or-foe theme line would be opened nevertheless already in the same scene when Leia walks the council corridors angry spitting the words (again, sorry if not word-for-word) "I don't understand why we should be so extremely polite for members that did not rise a finger during the war when we asked them to help us". This would be one metaphor of the friend-or-foe theme line. The same idea of the new era and friend-or-foe -line would apply to the Imperial side, too. This is just one way of creating the desired tension to the trailer, we must discuss options and choose the best one around which the script will be written. Update of the scenes: - Thrawn and Pellaeon in Thrawn's room/ISD command bridge (TLaabs) - Leia and the Noghri, whatever place is fine, builder can choose. Kashyyyk would be the easiest to recognize. (needs a builder (; ) - Talon Karrde with Mara Jade in their base (TLaabs) - Han Solo and Lando spying Thrawn meeting with Karrde - me (Samppu) - Luke and Mara in the Myrkr forest - me (Samppu) - Imperial Star Destroyer e.g. the opening where the shuttle arrives from the Obroa-skai - Kuat Drive Yards - Flash of space battle, builder can choose which one - Kuat Drive Yards - That Hyllyard scene - markus1984 who agreed - One of the most important scenes: Joruus C'baoth confronting Thrawn, Peallaeon and Rukh (TLaabs) - Rebel leadership in the council and somehow give a look of the new galaxy where the New Republic has risen into power. Mon Calamari Cruiser or other capital ships orbiting Coruscant could be impressive. (needs a builder (; ) - Borsk Fey'lya and the schisma between the rebel leaders. (needs a builder (; ) - Cloning facility if the builder Disco86 agrees -> this one is already in pieces =( I can watch if I can do anything about the opening scene for the New Republic. I could make a squadron of X-Wings to fly over a building. And if TLaabs could make the council scene from inside, we start to have an idea what scenes we can depict in the trailer. What comes to the mole miners, I think it would be technically too difficult to animate them carving themselves into the capital ships, so I say we just leave them out. Space battle scene itself, I think, is enough to make the impression of the reborn fight between the New Republic and the Empire. Or if they must be depicted, it should be done indirectly. Like Han saying "they did what?!" in a cockpit and then depicting a full squadron of TIEs coming towards. Next will happen: - I will be in contact with TLaabs and we start to write the sript. - Let's make here a gallery of figures we are going to use. It is not a catastrophe if they have slightly different clothes with different builders, but at least the same face and hair. Nevertheless, my Luke and Mara shoud be equivalent to those of markus1984 cause they are kind of part of the same scene. Thrawn should also look the same in the scenes where he appears, actually mostly with TLaabs. I have him just in binoculars. - Samppu

Yep, that would be super KDY. Update of the scenes: - Thrawn and Pellaeon in Thrawn's room/ISD command bridge (TLaabs) - Leia and the Noghri, whatever place is fine, builder can choose. Kashyyyk would be the easiest to recognize. (needs a builder (; ) - Talon Karrde with Mara Jade in their base (needs a builder (; ) - Han Solo and Lando spying Thrawn meeting with Karrde - me (Samppu) - Luke and Mara in the Myrkr forest - me (Samppu) - Imperial Star Destroyer e.g. the opening where the shuttle arrives from the Obroa-skai - Kuat Drive Yards - Flash of space battle, builder can choose which one - Kuat Drive Yards - That Hyllyard scene - markus1984 who agreed - One of the most important scenes: Joruus C'baoth confronting Thrawn, Peallaeon and Rukh (needs a builder (; ) - Rebel leadership in the council and somehow give a look of the new galaxy where the New Republic has risen into power. Thank you for your word Kaitan, I'll take a look at there, too. This planning, casting and script writing takes its own time anyway, so starting with them at first. Anyone willing to give a go for this trailer can of course share this for people whom they think to be interested in Thrawn-trilogy animation. -Samppu
-
TLaabs, I am very happy to here that you share your interest. =) Yes, the idea would be to make a teaser trailer instead of a minimovie. So that the most of the shots will be mostly flash like visions of the events in the story, though we can have exceptions. There are some details we must talk about when we have the builders and animators, but I'd say that let's focus on HTTE. The cloning facility could nevertheless be implied if the creator Disco86 agrees with the project. E.g. when Thrawn says in the agreement with Joruus C'baoth that "and the one almost insignificant piece of technology" (sorry if I use wrong words here, I've read these in Finnish, though I have access to English ones) the camera could actually show the cloning facility. Scenes I find important to make would be at least the following: - Thrawn and Pellaeon in Thrawn's room/ISD command bridge (TLaabs) - Leia and the Noghri, whatever place is fine, builder can choose. Kashyyyk would be the easiest to recognize. (needs a builder (; ) - Talon Karrde with Mara Jade in their base (needs a builder (; ) - Han Solo and Lando spying Thrawn meeting with Karrde (I can build this one) - Luke and Mara in the Myrkr forest (I can build this one) - Imperial Star Destroyer e.g. the opening where the shuttle arrives from the Obroa-skai (I think I can make this one, too) - Flash of space battle, builder can choose which one, KuatDriveYards was interested in this one. - That Hyllyard MOC would be fantastic, if the builder markus 1984 agrees. - One of the most important scenes: Joruus C'baoth confronting Thrawn, Peallaeon and Rukh (needs a builder (; ) - Rebel leadership in the council and somehow give a look of the new galaxy where the New Republic has risen into power. Mon Calamari Cruiser or other capital ships orbiting Coruscant could be impressive. (needs a builder (; ) - Borsk Fey'lya and the schisma between the rebel leaders. (needs a builder (; ) - Cloning facility if the builder Disco86 agrees Other suggestions are also welcome, but here are some to start with. What will happen next: - Inform me here if you want to make any of the scenes above or some other scene not mentioned here. - I will ask some persons to take the role of the director. If you are interested and find yourself qualified inform me here. - If you want to take part in the script writing and you have "know-how" to do it, inform me again here. Something like 2-3 script writers would be optimal, I will be one. You can be script writer even if you don't build anything. - Could you TLaabs take one or two movie like pictures from the Command room and edit a poster for the project Let's put this thing to roll! (; -Samppu
-
Yep, a flash-like space battle scenery would be very welcome KuatDriveYards. I could also build and animate two scenes: the one where Han and Lando are spying on Thrawn for the first time in Myrkr, for I have that Imperial Shuttle and passing TIE-Interceptors already. And the other could be the one/ones where Mara and Luke are travelling in Myrkr forest and confront the Scout Troopers. -Samppu

Hello guys! I came up with a nice idea, let's see if it starts to fly or not... ;) What I had in mind was to create an awesome Lego-animation trailer about the Thrawn-trilogy (Heir to the Empire) that would be released slightly before the official Episode VII -movie in celebration of the new Star Wars -movie. The thing is that to make it to be awesome, all of the cutscenes should contain only MOCs. Also it should have many frames per second to make a smooth appearance. This apparently sounds very difficult and workful and so it is. Actually there is no one on the Earth I guess that would have all the necessary MOCs for the effort. So what I propose is to make this trailer as a team work. There are many highly skilled builders that have made some fabulous scenes or vehicles of the Thrawn-trilogy already. And of course the ones that could still build one scene in due time, but not all. If enough enthusiastic persons would agree to make this, all it would take would be to animate a very short clip or two by each individual from the scene they have built. You know what they are like in real trailers, something like less than 5 to 10 seconds maximum and cut to the next shot. Of course, there are a couple of key persons that should put here some more effort. - One would be the director (not me) that should have some experience on animating and leading projects. The director should also hold contact to the builders. - Script writer. I can help with this, but in such a big community, maybe here is someone with some professional experience actually? - A semi-professional editor would do good, too, because there should be some vehicles flying around. Then we would need the MOC-builders. Luckily as I said we already have some and I know here are many super talented builders/animators so this shouldn't be impossible. A couple of examples I know: Thrawn's Command Room http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=107447 Hyllyard in Myrkr http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/402528 Cloning Chamber in Mount Tantiss http://www.eurobrick...pic=101238&st=0 Vehicles: X-Wing, Imperial Shuttle, TIE-Interceptor, Speeder Bike, AT-ST, Probe Droid http://www.brickshel...gi?f=543035&n=0 Vehicle: Y-Wing http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=84780 So, what do you think? Do we have the necessary enthusiasm and are there persons for this project in this forum? If there is something you would like to do, make a post beneath and let's see if this can actually work or not... ;D Personally I can help to make contacts with the people. And I can also provide a busy supply of detailed MOC vehicles. Imperial Star Destroyer and AT-AT on the way as next. -Samppu

Thank you all for commenting! =) I guessed that the scale will be the subject with this build, but it is often a problem with the vehicles of this size. I had the same problem with 74-Z Speeder Bike and the Droideka, but the result has been the same; the looks are so much better when the scale is slightly bigger than it should be. The same idea applies to this BARC Speeder, too. Though this is even bigger in scale than the Speeder Bike and the Droideka, but on the other hand, I didn't personally find it bothering for two reasons. -Even though the scale is bigger than it should be, the vehicle is in absolute studs only a thumbprint longer than the official one in the set "Battle on Saleucami". -BARC Speeder is supposed to be the heaviest speeder bike there is in Star Wars universum, so it has a right to be a little big. I mean, in "Revenge of the Sith" BARC Speeders fly among the LAAT-gunships - something that would be rather impossible thought for a regular Speeder Bike. Well, there is also my personal glimpse when I look at the vehicle, and I don't feel it to be too big. But there is the fact that I don't expect the driver's feet to be long enough to touch the pedals that would be anyway impossible, because of Emmet and X-jumps. One comment still for the correct colours. I actually do have quite a few bricks, though the pedals are available only in the old grey. But mostly some bizarre colour asymmetries are simply due to the laziness of finding a certain brick in a certain colour for I only use colour sorting (yes, it has its disadvantages but it also has some advantages). x) -Samppu

"Look at the size of that thing." Very impressive. Bacta bubbles are just so cool. AT-ATs are big and good looking as well, and you really seemed to have there the details and stuff from the movie such as the Ion Cannon. Size also matters sometimes. One flaw, though. When it certainly is not about the number of bricks nor about the talent (for this I am very sure), please leave the official sets at home and make your own MOC ones. This one has them, though, and I am very pleased to see that AT-ATs are MOCs. A couple of official sets as a rush addition are ok, but I have seen many Battle of Hoth -dioramas where the only thing the builder did him/herself was the snow. Luckily this is not a one of those, but still... A little less snow and a MOC snowspeeder..? -Samppu

Wow, pretty cool! I like the overall playability of this creation very much. Working and high enough boarding ramp is just awesome. Though none of these vehicles is a very accurate copy of some OT-vehicle, you have perfectly managed to capture the feel of Imperial standard on each of the vehicles. The walkers and the speeder bikes are something you could very well confront in the Expanded Universe, for instance. The landing craft actually bears a good resemblance to a craft seen on Rogue Squadron II Yavin mission: All in all, good job! -Samppu

Thanks for comments! It is indeed relatively a little bigger than it should be to be exactly to the scale with a minifigure. This is a general problem with vehicles of this size, because minifigures are not humans. Their heads are relatively very large compared to humans and legs are on the other hand much shorter. Thus I have tried to find the balance between as small size as possible that could still make the right and accurate shapes visible and spare all the details, but in a manner that the result wouldn't look too big for a minifigure. In addition, as Emmet knows, it is a little hard to make X-jumps when you are a minifigure... ; ) I didn't take the comparative picture, but it is equally long as the official speeder bike, so I have no personal pressure to make it any smaller. I have the same policity over my other MOCs, too. What I find important is the constancy in size so that all the MOCs would look like they were from the same sized "world". -Samppu

Looks good, water is well done and I find the use of paper background succesfull. -Samppu

I simply love this, just perfect! It is always so nice to see creations from Thrawn trilogy and there is already a good bunch of them that are very good, and this definetly is one of them! Wouldn't actually be so bad idea to combine forces here on the forum with other EU-builders to make a Lego-comic about Heir to the Empire some day? (; Or animation collase or trailer, for that matter, if we want to get very greedy. =D -Samppu

Differently colored A-wings (sort of based on McQuarrie concept art)
Samppu replied to Raskolnikov's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Looks pretty, it is nice that you have tilted the sides of the core to make it look more true to the original model. -Samppu -
Hello, there are two periods in Star Wars timeline that I am most interested in. The other one is the end of the clone wars and the other the time related to Grand Admiral Thrawn. For this latter I have been building an Imperial Shuttle, so here you go: [MOC] Imperial Shuttle Features: - Opening wings and retractable landing gear. They are actually synchronized, so when you open the wings, the landing gears will automatically pull in, or when you close the wings, the landing gears will automatically push out. - Two fiber-wired missiles with a range up to some 2-3 meters. They are under the floor, and they fire when you open their ports next to main turbolaser cannons. I will actually replace them with spring-shooters, because they are very difficult to reload as the shuttle weights pretty much. - Two spring-shooters behind the wing cannons, one at each. These ones are not present in the following pictures as I am making an important upgrade to them. Before they were launched under the wings that was again somewhat circus due to the weight. Now I make a button on the top of the wings, so that they would be much easier to launch. - Opening boarding ramp that is tall enough for a minifigure to walk in and out. - Fully decorated interior and cocpit. - Controllable twin laser cannon at the back of the ship that you can move from the inside of the shuttle. Control panels and viewport is inside the shuttle and a minifigure can actually be played to use this cannon. However, it does not shoot anything. - Cocpit walls can be easily removed so that you can play and access the seats. Also the main fin can be easily removed in order to access the other parts of the interior. This is still in the WIP-stage, because I will still make some modifications on the parts mentioned above. Also the wings have been built up in a great hurry for a Lego-Show, so I will try to make them more studless and symmetric. -Samppu

This is something I desire to see as complete: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoBMRr_6zIk&spfreload=10 The project began already in December 2014 and is still going. Some other building for Lego-shows in between and I hope then there will be more time to concentrate on this one. The idea is to make a pair, if I get greedy a fleet, of these capital ships, and make a sort of game out of them at a Lego show. Something like a setting, where there are two sides, and both of the sides have those kinds of columns with microships/fighters as in the video. The goal is to defend the columns of your own side and try to shoot down the microships off the columns of the opponent team. In the video the micro-Tantive does not drop from the column because this was just the very first demo and Tantive was attached to the column. But I have tested it, the microships will fall if you don't attach them on the studs, and thus the game should work. Credit also for Hereticae who has been building large parts of this ship, there's a detailed list in the description of the video about the parts. -Samppu
-
I was not sure what to expect when the title was "final duel", but I honestly almost dropped off from my seat. This is very impressive, it catches the mood of the duelists and there is an epic atmosphere in the small starship interior where the fate of the galaxy will be set. The lightning effects are the most responsible factors for the atmosphere, but also the studless floor is like from PC game that adds up some realism. The other factor that smoothes away the often "boxy" look of Lego-interiors is the use of tilted walls. Overall, it is just stunning. Gained a rightful seat in my Jedi Archives of fabulous MOCs. -Samppu
