  1. So it seems, yes. Considering the way how Lego seems to have been cutting corners constantly (battle damaged Anankin torso in Jedi star fighter, lazy printing on the cantina set etc.), I would not be surprised if the minifigures would be exactly similar pilot Luke and TIE-fighter pilot + regular stormie etc. as we have had before.
  2. What do you mean by casted helmets? Impressive figures indeed!
  3. Cool! I was surprised that Ninjago and Minecraft didnt make it to the list. I guess especially Minecraft might have been a more temporary rocket like Pokemon Go that comes and goes, but Star Wars has been a steady winner now for decades.
  4. Ah, gotta love this. The overall looks are stunning, but I especially like how you have made all the interior parts connected to each other and making the tube to the cockpit as well. It gives it a finished feeling and is inspiring itself.
  5. This Lego color actually exists ;) Though not for many pieces, but it is there. I think the name of it on Bricklink is as you wrote it: very light bluish gray. Yep, I checked it, at least many technic pieces are available in that, which is quite spot on for the effect of dirty white: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=41239&name=Technic, Liftarm 1 x 13 Thick&category=[Technic, Liftarm]#T=S&C=99&O={"color":99,"iconly":0}
  6. I agree, but like I said, the two sets including the Sentinel are both depicting this scene.
  7. I think the nonsensical logic derives simply from the fact that either the designers do not know the real reasons themselves and/or are not allowed to tell them into public, and thus they must make up some explanations in these interviews. Some are better than others, and well, the designers were primarily hired because they are good at Lego building.
  8. For Lambda class this can be thought, I agree and I actually think Lambda class should be white in Lego colors, but I don't see how Sentinel class can be anything but dark bluish gray. Like really: Ok, edit, there are some EU sources that paint it light bluish gray, but so far all the Lego sets have been depicting this exact scene.
  9. This. Totally agree, especially for the Sentinel class dropship aka. the Imperial landing craft.
  10. Totally agree with the original post. Especially with the hair argument! :D And another vote for a mid-scale separatist council set (or even a concil member, e.g. in a tan CIS shuttle with Grievous, Wat Tambor, San Hill and Sidious hologram from the Revenge of the Sith) and Greez (or just about anything from the Fallen Order). My unpopular opinion; Spring loaded shooters are the best new part/innovation the modern Star Wars sets have given us. They have made it much easier to include easily concealable (that the official sets do not usually conceal them is a different issue, but in MOCs this is easily possible with elegance) and actually working play features to even small crafts and spaceships. For the same reason even the stud shooters are actually pretty cool if you use them wisely. They make excellent light mortars (going to make a post about these later on) and grenade launchers, even if they look ugly as assault rifles.
  11. Yep, I agree. The Reborn Emperor and Pellaeon are spot on. The other two I am not familiar with..
  12. Thanks for the tip, I will make a try on this at some point.
  13. This would be cool already. Additionally I would wish to have an update on the chest piece, because it is supposed have a uniform "box" appearance for the top part. The Lego mold, however, has a big hold in the chest piece that is not supposed to be there and that does not need to be there for any functional reason. I believe this would make a huge improvement on the looks. Also, I would wish they improve simply the quality of the droid parts. Even as new most of the parts are so loose that they are practically worthless. Used ones on Bricklink are even worse. This is the only exception for which I have been considering to try out the Chinese copycats from Ebay or Alibaba, because paying multiple euros for one single and often bad condition battle droid just does not feel fair... Yep, sad but true.
  14. This would make an excellent set indeed, and the bombing mechanism seems cool. Perhaps better marketed if it would be somehow based on the Squadrons game rather than episode V? The only thing I miss is a function to launch some sort of a missile as well.
  15. Excellent work! Any tips on the carving process if one wants to try the same?
  16. I would be all happy if they simply made the all-black blasters more detailed. This is a question of philosophy rather than marketing etc. as TLG opposes anything that even remotely looks military, though there have been some exceptions with the lines like Indiana Jones and Super Heroes. I am placing my hope on the new 18+ marketing strategy that it might give TLG the boost to finally upgrade the weapons a little. Though, we have Brickarms, so it really does not matter too much from an AFOL perspective. Even more so now that Brickarms produces almost every Star Wars weapon which has had bigger role in the franchise. Though, as you said, double-molded DL-44 would be sweet. Winkwink* Brickarms designers.. ;)
  17. I would recommend using water decals instead of stickers. The result is much much better and the application a way easier. With sticker you have only one try to hit it perfectly where you want it to be. With water decals you can adjust as long as you need until you have it spot on.
  18. The best AT-AP I have seen so far! The use of the cape as a hose around the main gun is creative. Loving the gunner chair at the top. Lots of creative parts usage in general, the closet doors as for another example. The terrain could do with some more greebling for a more finished look. The flat base does not feel very natural Kashyyyk ground, perhaps some levels and shades of brown with plates? Great work on this!
  19. I agree with the AAT, as that one does have different proportions to the upper and lower part as you said, and that is a clear design flaw, I would say. (or it might have something to do with the animated vehicle, which might have vastly different proportions compared to its cinema counterpart...) Interestingly, the AAT is one of the few vehicles for which I still personally prefer the classic first one as the best design. However, I feel that the scale-to-the-height philosophy is a little over-exaggerated philosophy among AFOLs when it comes to Star Wars vehicles. If one takes the scale from the height, they are, true, oversized. But if one takes the scale from the helmet even, then they are actually pretty spot on considering the over all length and height. The Lego figures implement after all quite extreme chibi-like proportions themselves, so to my eye the fan made tiny AT-RTs and BARC speeders actually look even too tiny for this reason: the figure heads pop out as overly chibi like in those solutions to my eye. To some extent this is a question of taste, but I think that the scale issue still is not fundamentally about the actual height per se, but more about the overly bulky over all appearance that make them look a little clumsy. The same overall height would not really hurt if the design seemed more agile for the AT-RT, I believe.
  20. Valid estimation. This is a topic of its own, and I think I will make a detailed post about it later, but there are different army organizations one can use for Star Wars troopers, and I don't think the real world organization (squad = 9, platoon = 30, company = 150, battalion ~ 1000, varying between armies but around these numbers) is very useful in relation to Lego. I personally use my own system that has the same organization principle that the bigger units are mostly just multiplications of the smaller ones, but downgraded to a scale that fits the Lego world: Private = 1 Patrol = 2 Squad = 4 (Sergeant + 3 troopers) Platoon = 9 (Lietenaunt + 2 squads) Company = 19 (Captain + 2 platoons) Battallion = 39 (Major + 2 companies) Brigade = 79 (Colonel + 2 battallions) + supporting personel, e.g. a sniper patrol or other special forces units, a medical squad, artillery and armored units etc. A brigade with 79 troopers looks already massive in most displays, and if you really want to go far, you can still upgrade to a regiment and division by always multiplying by 2. On the other hand, even a company of 19 troopers makes a nice presence already, and is relatively affordable depending on the type of the trooper, of course. But like I said, this is definetly a topic of its own.
  21. Whoah, great many thanks! These will become handy when using water decals to create ranks not existing in official Lego pieces!
  22. Ah, love this! The rain effect is cool, though trans black tiles might be more accurate color (water is only blue when the sky is blue). Or edit: the sky is actually pretty bluish in your edit, so it does work, but I might still miss some gradient at least: the water tiles in the shadows being trans black and the ones that hit the light from the sky blue, perhaps even in different shades of blue. Great build too! The bith advertisement especially was a nice idea. At first glance, I thought he was looking through a window so a can or other such product in his hand (if it fits) might make the purpose more apparent, but the idea is very creative.
  23. Still about the TIE Bomber: Big sets need to have tons of play features, yes, but who said the TIE Bomber could not have more than dropping bombs and shooting flick fire missiles? I think this is where the designers could put some more imagination into. Light up motors, sound effects, some motor details, an ejections seat (TIE Bomber actually had one in the EU at least) and a small ground piece including e.g. a technician and an officer. The possibilities are plenty.
  24. These are so great! Warm thank you. =) I have been waiting to join the Factions, too, once I have my thesis finished, and I believe these will find some good use. One future idea that I thought for consideration is to separate the figures that include white and the ones that do not, because most of the printers do not print white, which might become a minor problem if one wants to print these on water decals instead of a paper, because water decal sheets are usually either transparent (for figures that do not have anything white) or white (for figures that include something white). This is problem only because one water decal sheet costs something like 7 euros, so you want to use each of them very carefully... :D
