I certainly wouldn't class Hawkeye as a minor character. in the popular Avengers cartoon he gets considerable screen-time and Black Widow is also one of the main action characters in the movie plus she will help appeal to girls which is something LEGO is trying to do. This thread is not just about discussing Nick Fury it's about the license in general and there are a hundred more recognisable super hero characters than him.

why do people seem to be expecting a UCS style set for super heroes?? It takes a theme a long time of established sales to get that kind of treatment, not one wave. If there is any UCS style set it will be for Batman as it's a core licensed line. And I wish people would stop going on about Nick Fury, he'll turn up when he turns up! He is not one of the characters most kids will want to see in the initial sets. They want the headline acts not the support cast.

They're going to continue to push Batman remakes because quite simply he sells better than most other superheroes (especially DC ones). His main villains are by far the most recognisable to Kids and they want to recreate what they see in movies or cartoons or on games. Batman has a plethora of all of these unlike his DC counterparts. I expect a lot of the next wave of superheroes to be aimed at Marvel franchises Spiderman and the X-Men. They both have had successful films, games and cartoons and also tick the box as far as recognizable villains go. We need to state realistic ideas for future sets. This theme is in its infancy so they will release only established characters and scenes for the first few waves.

Interesting point mate! TLG seems to be adopting this new large mold for many oversize figures. A lot of people though really like the minifigure as it's iconic. Personally I like the new scale as it makes it look a bit more effective but where does it end? What size will the following figs be if they get released? Juggernaut Rhino Apocalypse Thing Colossus Killer Croc Clayface

To be fair wasn't the marvel release date originally slated for May? We're getting them nice and early, they could've made us wait for the summer.
-
Great job! Massive scale really suits Hogwarts.

Thats a nice set! Looking forward to seeing some more!

Baron that is totally awesome!! I don't have any constructive criticism for you it ticks all the boxes. Hope you don't mind Baron but I had to tweet your flickr pages to Marvel and the world.

I do really like that Moria set. If you get the usual buy 2 get 3rd free sales and pick up 3 of them you could always put the duplicate fellowship characters on ebay and probably end up with the mines and 3 trolls plus some extra minifigs for a reasonable price. I did that with 6 of the hogwarts castles and ended up paying a small amount of money for six lego castles plus one full set of minifigs and a load of dementors.

Probably so, would be great to see maybe one or two LOTR sets in. They may do it just to keep the interest level raised until a bigger wave. I'm just hoping more than anything! I made a mistake of looking at the photos of the first wave on flickr during my lunchbreak. This is going to break the bank! Just wondering how many duplicate sets other people are thinking of buying for the purposes of army building? I quite fancy a few trolls but that could get pricey real quick!

That is awesome, Oky! You should be proud of yourself for that. I have no criticism, just a question. Are you going to do a box stand for the teachers and visitors?

There is no hard and fast rule when it comes to licensing but I would expect that there was an initial fee paid. Be interesting to find out what this would be, as for Marvel/DC the money paid for the license is probably of little consequence compared to the good free advertising they will get from having their goods on the market in connection with the worlds current top toy brand. For example, if you wanted to get some good publicity for your film the Avengers would you rather take X-million from LEGO and be guaranteed to see it in shops everywhere due to the deep market penetration you now have, or would you take XXX-million from a different manufacturer and generate less buzz in the film. Don't forget a few million here and there is nothing compared filling out a cinema and getting kids hooked on the franchise.

Don't naturally assume that TLG pays an obscene amount of money for licenses. Marvel/DC and Lucas receive a lot of good advertising from these products so it's win/win.

[MOC] LOTR Argonath: King of the Eastern Shore
Vindice replied to ShaydDeGrai's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
A MOC well deserving of my 400th post! It's brilliant and I completely agree with the comments abut adding some different colours near the base to give the impression of weathering. -
I think a Marvel visual dictionaru is out of a question until it has at least 3-4 waves under its belt coupled with the original Spiderman stuff.
-
I like it, nice dark and imposing colour scheme. Really well done.

I think everyone has realised that there isn't much left to say now, until we start hearing more about the next wave. It's better to have this silence than what they have on the superhero thread in the licensed forum, with people going on and on and on about "Where is Nick Fury?" Maybe it's time to get more into the rumours section for upcoming sets.
-
My apologies, no sass was intended!
-
Why does talk about the upcoming game have to be relegated to the culture and multimedia section but not the DK book? Don't see why we can't discuss the game when it could reveal some interesting new set or character designs.

You should be really proud of this. It captures the story most are familiar with so well. the perspective on the building is excellent, you framed it beautifully. And I love the sun actually. Very classical representation.
-
Stunning build, not the easiest project to undertake and you did it proud! any bathroom with a mermaid pic hanging up is a winner as far as I'm concerned!

Very nice, keep us up-to-date with your brickfilm too. My brother is about to fiish part 3 of his SW based brickfilm soon. Hit us up for any tips if you should need them.

I think after the avenger heavy sets coming out in this wave they will concentrate on other marvel characters such as Spiderman and the X-Men. i dont think you will see many sets from Iron Man 2 or even from Thor. I think TLG are going to concentrate on characters with more marketable adversaries. I think X-Men Vs Brickbuilt sentinel is highly likely. Blackbird set featuring Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Magneto and possibly 2 other characters X-mansion featuring part of the danger room featuring Prof X, Beast, Iceman?, Angel/Archangel, Colossus, and Juggernaut Spiderman set featuring Venom and Carnage

Who cares where Nick Fury is?? This theme is just fine without him and I'm sure there are plenty of comic book fans that would happily see dozens more characters in LEGO form before him. Does anyone know when we might start hearing more about the next waves?
