Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
Vindice replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think Batman and Spiderman will always be the most popular characters (the number of films, animated shows go to prove it) but I think TLG will release plenty of sundry characters. At the moment they are establishing the theme just the same as SW would establish with the most well known scenes and vehicles first. once the theme is established there will be a lot more versatility and if it lasts a few years or more we will soon be inundated with figures we never saw coming. Let the good times roll........................ -
the price hike between the two is pretty shocking isn't it?! I didn't pay for it, i got it as one of my freebie sets, needed something around £80 so that i thought I was making the most of it Beautiful set though.

LEGO are just capitalizing on the current market which is good sense from a commercial perspective. Avengers is out of the limlight for the moment whereas batman isn't thanks to the more recent film and also the game. Spiderman sets have probably been in the pipeline for a while due to the cartoon...................how were TLG to know the cartoon would suck! Roll on NYCC, I'm pretty sure we're going to get a lot more info then especially when they present the golden brickies out to whoever is going to be featured on the Lego superheroes DVD. They are bound to have a big presence there this year. I think we'll get more info than just Arkham Asylum. -
Now they've released Jabba's palace it would seem like a good time to release some of the denizens of his establishment. I'd like to see a Gran and Quarren but unless we get something along the lines of a UCS sailbarge then i don't see that happening. A cantina I think would make sense for next year to be followed by a new mold for the Dewback. New Sandpeople with a Bantha maybe? and a new Sandcrawler with some Jawas.
-
I actually loved this set. I think it represents pretty decent value consideringthe figures you're getting and the really well thought out design. i bought this set at the same time as Jabba's palace and a few others ands its my favourite and my 5 year old sons too. get this set!!

Nice review. Some great minifigs in there. Personally i really like the new Gamorrean guard. Some of the pieces are really nice in this set and it looks great.........if a bit small compared to the cheaper and noticeably larger Helms Deep that it's next to at the moment.

Made good use of the Toys'R'Us 3 for 2 lego sale with Jabba's palace! increased my number of Endor battle packs which were reduced aswell as being 3 for 2 which was nice. They still had some slave one's too and in the afternoon they started to put out some of palpatines arrest. getting one of those for free almost seemed criminal!
-
Surprised not much was made of the Toys'R'Us 3 fro 2 sale on LEGO here. In the afternoon they even put out the palpatines arrest set! I was a very happy man. They still have slave one too which was a bonus as it's getting hard to find.

I think the designers have doen a reasonable job in covering both demographics. The DC superheroes had Wonder Woman, Ivy, Harley Quinn and Catwoman whilst characters like Penguin, Mr Freeze and Scarecrow were left to wave 2. With the success of LEGo Friends, they are obviously bringing in more female lego buyers now. Perhaps that may have a knock on effect one day onto the core themes. Perhaps TLG will see more sense in making a Wonder Woman set in the friends range. -
Personally although i appreciate the cartoon, I'm not a fan of the CW side of the SW Lego theme. Give me OT sets anyday. But I am very grateful for the respite on my wallet! With collecting the superhero theme and the LOTR sets, my spending was starting to get very difficult to justify to the wife and all our friends who seem to think i'm a LEGO-obsessed nutter!
-
Lego dino isn't dead it's in hibernation. I think you'll find the gap between sets has far more to do with production issues surrounding that many new molds than anything else. Dino was ambitious for introduction of new molds and paiting techniques. It will be back. I just dont think it will be until Winter 2014 to be honest.

I don't think this is an idea that's been explored to any great length by LEGO. As has previously been mentioned, if there is enough call for it then i can see them doing it. We seem to be using a greater deal of mini-minifigures than ever before now and the LOTR range will perpetuate this. The main thing that holds me and my brother back from animating LOTR is the lack of poseable legs for the characters. I think the mod is really clever but I would prefer the finish of an actual mold.
-
I'm not sure TLG will increase their planned sets by much. I'm dissapointed Jackson has decided to fleece the fans by making a third film. It's totally unnecessary in my opinion to turn a small book into 3 films.

An uncanny X-men series is indeed in the pipeworks and whilst next year is bounds to bring along a few spidey sets the show's future isn't promising. Ratings are nowhere near what they should be so don't expect a season 3.

there are some great comments on here. Perhaps it's time for TLG to coe up with a slightly larger scale figure. That way they can more realistically interpret larger scale figures whilst still giving people that fantastic opportunity to still customize!! Perhaps someone could do a new mould for a larger scale minifigure as a cuusoo project?? How can we add a poll? Does a mod do this or do I need to?

I am not complaining PP, I love all the new sets and owned the entire wave almost as soon as I saw it. The point i'm making is in relation to your first comment "TLG has it all figured out". Do you think so? It seems to me that they are caught between two distinct styles that dont mesh very well together cartoon style figs and film replica figs. Would your new Spiderman or Iron Fist really fit in with Thor or Black Widow? I don't think TLG knows which direction it wants to go in more. -
Some good points. So what figures would be best done as minifigs and which would be best done as moulds. Juggernaut Darkseid Thing Clayface Killer Croc Colossus Apocalypse I was tempted to put in sentinels and galactus but i seriously hope if these were ever done that they would be brickbuilt.

Sorry guys, couldn't find a previous thread on this subject so thought I'd begin one. I was lucky enough to get a promotional Hulk Minifigure after purchasing the Quinjet in May. This was a present for my son. He loves the Helicarrier set and is a massive Hulk fan but when he saw the new promotional Hulk his face lit up! Now he hardly plays with the larger mould. He says he still likes it but he likes having the Hulk in minifig form as it seems more consistent with the others. My question to everyone else is, do you feel the same? Will the superhero line in particular spawn more of these large moulds? And do we want it? Or would we prefer to see characters like Juggernaut, Thing, Darkseid, Colossus, and Clayface in minifigure form?

Could it be that TLG is not entirely sure in which direction to push the Figures? On the one hand you have the realism of the movies and then on the other you have the cartoon appeal of the Ultimate Spiderman. Seems to me like they are caught between two ideas much like the SW license with the Films and the Clone wars cartoon. I think TLG is over-thinking things. The movie versions of all the Avengers and Batman are so detailed but do they really need to be? At what point do minifigures start to become like action figures? Keep them simple, consistent and like the characters they are portraying. There is no need to make them look like a collectible toy, what's next fully articulated joints?! They are in danger of losing their charm which lies in simplicity. -

I don't see any reason at all the LEGO would release a Magneto or Phoenix minifig and not do more X-Men sets. Aswell as being an amazing selling comic it has also spawned many films and animated TV shows. There will always be plenty of interest. Also I think it has been pretty much confirmed that Ant-man is going to be part of the next Avengers line-up. I think Black Panther will probably be too and where Ant-man is, Wasp can't be far behind. I'm becoming so involved in the superhero line that I'm considering selling off my entire SW Lego colelction now to make room for it. Running out of display space for LEGO! -
Don't forget if you're in the UK, Argos have their annual 3 for 2 Toy sale in August/Spetember and as they are listing all the Lotr sets this should make for some happy army building. I will try to exercise some patience and wait till then so i can get multiples of each set but I will probably complete the set before then as i have very little self control!
-
Those set names sound plausible enough. Time will tell I suppose but I definitely see a Balrog and Orthanc in our future and possibly an Ent too.
-
i would imagine similar to how they work the current superheroes theme. All encompassing but sub-divided out of Lord of the Rings into The Hobbit as SH does with Batman II

Maybe not entitlement but TLG is a family company, they pride themselves on that fact and try to engender this loyalty amongst their fan base. What they are doign here is not in keeping with the companies philosphy. And to make things worse they are actively encouraging grey market sales and profiteering. that is not ethical. And you cannot say it's a reward for the people who've made the trip to San Diego when they know full well a lot of these items end up being sold for extortionate amounts of money. TLG started as a continental European company and most of their sales are still done there. Why not reward those?? TLG want consumers to stay with them out of loyalty in the face of opposing brands. So where is their loyalty to us? I think it's a fair question.
